Celebrating our Grads! It is that time of year again when we celebrate the Highlands grads in our midst! Some of you (or your children or grandchildren) are graduating/have graduated from gr. 12 or a post secondary program this spring, and we would like to acknowledge these people on Sunday, June 24. We will include a little write-up on each grad in Highlights, and for those who can be present that morning, we will invite them to come up front as we read something about each person. So, if there is a grad in your family, could you please send a little write up no later than Wednesday, June 20 that includes: Name and connection to Highlands (eg. did they sing in G2; on summer staff, Sunday School teacher, musician, attended worship, volunteered in the Flea Market, participate in Summer programs.) Also are you writing this on behalf of your child/grandchild (we like to know who is related to whom!) - up to 4 5 sentences. What program are they graduating from What are their future plans? A picture would be wonderful too! Could you also please indicate if the graduate will be present in church on Sunday June 24 th? Send your write up to Allie Keir (allie.keir@highlandsunited.org) by email (with photo attached to the email) or drop off a copy at the Church Office marked grad write up.

Wilderness Canoe Trip For Young Adults Murtle Lake, Wells Grey Park August 15-20 2018 Nestled among the mountains of Wells Grey Park in the very middle of British Columbia is the largest non-motorized lake in North America. Home of some of the most beautiful populations of BC s finest wildlife including bears, moose and a favorite nesting place for loons, Murtle lake is an experience of true wilderness. Here is an opportunity to clear away the sounds, the sights and the demands of life in the city, and strip away the layers that cover over life in its simplest form. This 6 day trip will help participants encounter the natural world and to feel woven into the fabric of creation. It may also challenge the many ways we separate ourselves from God in creation. Led by Will Sparks and Anna Sparks Will has a lifetime s experience canoeing and camping the interior lakes and rivers of BC. He has taken two trips to Murtle Lake and simply loves the rugged beauty and the clarity it brings. Anna has camped and canoed many of the same lakes. She was Director of MacKenzie Camp, the United Church Camp on Mable Lake where she led numerous overnight canoe trips. She has first aid and is currently the Director of WE Schools for BC and Alberta. No Canoeing gear required A training session will take place in July Registration is limited to 8 people. For more information contact Will Sparks at: will.sparks@highlandsunited.org 778-968-7718

Highlands Book Circle This is a drop-in group which provides an opportunity to meet other members of our congregation in a smaller, quieter, more in-depth setting than can occur during coffee time or some other gatherings. We usually meet on the Last Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm in our church library. The next books that we will be reading and discussing are: June 26th --- The Boat People by Sharon Bala Greeters Needed for August and September! Greeters are a key part of the Highlands experience for newcomers and long time members alike. Many people who come to Highlands return because of the warmth and interest shown them when they first arrived at Highlands and during the preservice and post-service coffee times. If you enjoy greeting people and could contribute to the life of this community by signing up to be a Sunday greeter for a month, please speak with Colleen Blair or sign up at the table in the Welcome Space. Duties are straightforward and you ll be part of a great team that help Sunday mornings to run smoothly and people to feel welcome!

Protecting our Oceans from the Highlands United Growing Greener Team (HUGG) Ahead of World Oceans Day, Greenpeace Canada is sponsoring a special Vancouver screening of BLUE the criticallyacclaimed and award-winning documentary film which takes you deep into our planet s threatened oceans and seas.
