PERSONAL WORD Sunday, SEPTEMBER 15, 2013 8:45 & 11:00 AM Sanctuary The 8:45 AM worship service is broadcast via 15-minute delay from 9-10 AM Sundays on WAPI-1070 AM. 3rd Grade bible presentation - 8:45 AM SERMON Dr. Andrew Wolfe Sermon Series: Jesus: What Was He Thinking? Marriage & Divorce MUSIC 8:45 AM Trinity Orchestra, Amy Johnson, Sanctuary Choir 11:00 AM Trinity Orchestra, Amy Johnson, Praise Alliance MINISTER On call Andrew Wolfe, 871-1309 One of the scripture passages that informs and forms our ministry, is Matthew 25:40, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are in my family, you did it to me. We understand that a part of our core purpose as the body of Christ, is to GO to serve Christ and our fellow human beings. We do that in hundreds of ways as groups and as individuals. You have built houses (Habitat & SOS), worked to clean up after diasters, fed the hungry (Firehouse Shelter & Church of the Reconciler), housed the homeless, carried good news to those in prison (Kairos), and provided a foundation for children with specials needs (Trinity Special Class) the list goes on and on. Our vision is that every member of Trinity is involved in some form of ministry in the name of Christ. On Sunday, September 29, Trinity will join four other Methodist congregations in supporting Magic City Miracle. This will be the largest volunteer service event in the history of Birmingham. On that day, the goal is to involve 2000+ volunteers in more than 100 outreach events throughout our community. There is something for everyone from children to adults involving anywhere from 1-6 hours of commitment time. This event begins with a gathering at Linn Park in downtown Birmingham at 12:00 Noon with a sending off at 1:00 PM. We are encouraging groups Sunday School Classes, Women s Circles, Youth groupings as well as individuals to sign up. Visit www.magiccitymiracle.org to sign up as an individual. Contact Brittany Arias (879-1737, barias@trinitybirmingham.com) to sign up as a group. This event is one way we can show the love of Christ to our community. I encourage and urge you to be a part of a miracle. wesley hall Visit www.magiccitymiracle.org to learn more. New Times! 8:45 AM & 11 AM Rev. Lil Lambs Ministry: Stewardship in Action Lil Lambs Fall children s consignment sale offered various opportunities to practice stewardship. On September 6 and 7, consigners were able to sell their new or gently worn children s items and make new purchases, often resulting in no out of pocket expense. It s recycling resources for everyone s benefit! A Lil Lambs volunteer, offered this observation, after seeing a favorite toy my son enjoyed last year being purchased by an excited child clutching his own money, I really saw the sale in a different light. I have come to realize what an outreach this ministry is to the community. The fall sale grossed over $38,000, with 70% going to the sellers and 30% to Trinity Children s Ministries. In the past, profits have provided scholarships for Cross and Flame Youth Choir tour, SOS student mission trips, Trinity Child Development Center, The Special Place and Camp Sumatanga. Some other items include Orff instruments and keyboards for the children s choirs, pagers and shelving for the nursery and additional fencing for the playground. Through this ministry, we also support the United Methodist Children s Home and various other ministries focused on children both here and abroad. None of this would be possible without a dedicated leadership team and the help of hundreds of servants who choose to spend their time making sure Lil Lambs is a successful and worthwhile endeavor. Pictured Below: Shoppers at the sale on Friday morning. 4

We want to hear what God has done in your life and how Trinity has been part of that. Your stories encourage all of us. To submit your story, please log on to www.trinitybirmingham.com and click on Stories. There Are So Many Opportunities By: Marenda Swaika In May of 2003, my husband and I visited Trinity for the very first time. It was Memorial Day weekend and the music was beautiful. We were in awe over the orchestra and the choir. Joe and I had been looking for a church home, somewhere that would be a good fit for both of us. He grew up Catholic and I grew up Baptist. After we left the service, I asked him what he thought about it. He said he liked it. There was such a sigh of relief that we had found our church home! element cafe needs you! If you have a couple of hours in the middle of the afternoon (3-5 PM) once or twice a month...consider serving in the middle of your life with middle schoolers! Tomorrow s church is under our roof in the middle of the week each Tuesday and Thursday in the youth area for an after school program called Element Cafe. We are looking for very special volunteers in the middle of retirement or younger to serve these youngsters. All you need is a chair, a good book and a smile. We will station you in the middle of the action at Element Cafe. If you are a middle-ager and serious about making a difference, contact Robert Sturdivant at rsturdivant@trinitybirmingham.com or 879-1737. Our Trinity church family has been such a blessing to have. Trinity has taught us that anyone can be a part of missions, be a teacher, and be part of a beautiful music ministry. There are so many opportunities to do God s work and to witness to people every day. I thank God for Trinity, and his bringing me through those church doors on that Sunday morning for the first time. Marenda Swaika Cloth Diapering 101 Are you curious about modern cloth diapers? They re not what your grandma used! Worship Readiness Teachers are Needed on Sundays We are still in need of 10-12 teachers for Worship Readiness at Trinity during the 8:45 and 11:00 services. This is a fun and easy ministry and a very small time commitment - only about 30 minutes 3-4 times a year! Worship Readiness counts as your nursery volunteer time, so if you have younger children in the nursery, you will not be expected to do both. Worship Readiness is great for parents and kids - Kids (Kindergarten and First Grade only) get to have fun and learn about God with their friends, while parents stay in the sanctuary and are able to listen to the sermon without interruption. Tuesdays at 10:00 AM Join this group in Room 114 in the nursery...bring your little ones. Questions? Email Kathryn at kathrb@gmail.com. 6 For those of you who have already signed up to teach, thank you! Please let me know if you are interested in teaching. I am glad to answer any questions you might have. Stacy Young / 871-4625
