Dear Parish Family ~ Welcome to the 40 Day Journey of Lent! Each of the next Sundays (in Lent), I will be giving a series on Ways to Get a New Mind and Heart. As we make this journey with the Lord Jesus, may we come to the realization of the need to let go of past hurts, and of our failings as human beings. Now is the acceptable time! Now is the time to embrace our salvation! Let us not miss this opportunity to grow closer to our Lord Jesus. Friends, our first two readings today are about God's covenant with Noah. Mark's Gospel recounts, in his typically brief fashion, Jesus' sojourn in the dessert, and His announcement of the Kingdom of God. All we have to do is repent and believe in the Gospel The Good News. As we listen to these readings today, let us recall our own baptismal covenant with God. We have been granted the grace to enter a new season of renewal. Let us come before God now, with an openness to the renewal of our hearts and minds; oriented to God. Question of the Week: Among what Wild Beasts do I find myself in these opening days of Lent? Who are some of the ministering angels who bless my life? Pastor's Updates: Friends, just as Jesus went into the dessert to find His strength and trust in His Father, so your pastor needs to fortify himself for the rigors of Lent, and ongoing priestly ministry. Thus, I will be on retreat from February 23rd through 28th. Fr. Patrick, from St. Mary of the Angels, will offer the weekday Masses, and will also be on call for emergencies. I ask you to pray for me, as I will for all of you. May our Lord and His Holy Mother be with all of us in the weeks ahead, as we prepare for the celebration of Easter The Lord's Resurrection and for the arrival of Spring. Upcoming Events: Fridays of Lent: Stations of the Cross, after the 8:00 AM Mass. Sundays of Lent: Family Stations of the Cross, and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament 3:00pm Life Line Screening: on 4/27/2015. Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to: blocked arteries which is a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and 4 women, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. In order to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any package priced above $129, please call 1-888-653-6441 or visit www.lifelinescreening.com/community-partners. Peace & Blessings, Fr. Padre Tony ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL In today s Gospel, Jesus overcomes the temptations of the devil; wealth, power, and esteem. As we begin Lent, let us open our hearts to the grace of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Your giving of alms to our poor brothers and sisters will help them to experience and celebrate the grace of God s love this Easter. Please use the special St. Vincent de Paul envelope, provided to you for the month of March. Your alms will be used entirely to help those in need within our parish neighborhood. While this almsgiving may hurt your wallet in the short term, it will bring many spiritual blessings your way during this Lenten season. Remember, Whatsoever you do to these, the least of my brothers and sisters... Thank you so much for your generosity. ***Please Remember to take a Reverse Collection ticket this weekend; for Food Items for Paul s Pantry. Items can be brought to Mass with you Next Weekend.

Although we celebrate them liturgically as part of Lent, the Lord's Day cannot be a penitential day. Six weeks of Monday-through-Saturday gives you 36 days. If you add to them Ash Wednesday and the three days after it, you get the 40 days of Lent. 5
