February 9, 1865 Wilson Bentley was born in Jericho, Vermont. 1880 At fifteen years old, Bentley began drawing hundreds of pictures of snow crystals by looking at them in his mother s small microscope. 1882 When Willie was seventeen years old, his parents spent their savings and bought him a camera that had its own microscope. January 15, 1885 Wilson Bentley succeeded in taking the first pictures of ice crystals with the camera his parents had bought him. 1898 A professor at the University of Vermont convinced Wilson Bentley to publish his first article in Popular Scientific Monthly. 1924 Willie Bentley received the first research grant ever awarded by The American Meteorological Society. February 14, 1928 During the biggest snowstorm of his life that began on Valentine s Day, Bentley made over 100 photographs of snowflakes. November 1931 Snow Crystals, a book of Wilson Bentley s photomicrographs was published with almost 2,500 of his photos. www.thecurriculumcorner.com December 23, 1931 The 66-year old who came to be known as the Snowflake Man died of pneumonia at his farmhouse in Jericho, Vermont.
