He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18 19 (NKJ) It is the vision of Mt. Olive to be a church that is intentional in its efforts to identify and meet the needs of broken, hurt and oppressed people in the greater Glen Allen area through the message and ministry of Jesus Christ. From the Pastor's Desk This month we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I encourage you to focus on the awesome resurrection power of God. When there is seemingly no life or hope we know that God is able. It has been said that "there are no hopeless situations: there are only people who have grown hopeless about them." Because of the resurrection we can keep hope alive. Keep the faith and remember God is worthy to be praised. Eastertide April 24 June 11, 2011 (The pulpit attire is white) 2 The Easter Season, also known as the Great fifty Days, begins at sunset on Easter Eve and continues through the Day of Pentecost. At this season we celebrate with joy, Christ s resurrection and ascension and the giving of the Holy Spirit on the first Easter (John 20: 22 23) and on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2). MARCH * APRIL* MAY 2011 General Theme For This Quarter: WE WORSHIP GOD This quarter s study offers a New Testament survey of worship in the early church. Hymns, prayers, apocalyptic visions, and letters of instruction reveal the spiritual culture and practice of the first Christians and provide contemporary believers with a biblical model of worship. We hope that you will join us as we are focusing on: UNIT #2 ANCIENT WORDS OF PRAISE This unit takes the learners through the final weeks of Lent and into the Easter season. Each week s lesson is selected from a different book of the New Testament, but all share the common theme of praising Jesus Christ. THIS WEEK S: CHRIST IS RISEN! Matthew 28:1 17 When the women went to see (v.1) the tomb (Mark 16), they came to bring spices to anoint the body of Jesus. An angel told them that Jesus was alive. NEXT WEEK S: May 1, 2011 THE CHRIST HYMN Philippians 2:1 11 Philippi was a Roman colony. The proclamation by Philippian believers of Jesus as Lord would be viewed as a political challenge. Paul envisioned a community of believers who adopted Jesus as the model for personal relationship, and he presented Christ as a perfect example to emulate. CLASSES FOR EVERYONE!! MOBC HOW TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR HEART Perhaps while reading the announcements you realized you have never made a Christian commitment. Don t delay that decision! We encourage you to embrace God s love today and receive the salvation that only Jesus Christ gives. Here are five simple steps you can take to find assurance of salvation. 1. Recognize your need. The Bible tell us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) All of us are sinners, and we must admit our need for a Savior. 2. Repent of your sins. Our sins create a wall that separates us from God. By confessing our sins and turning from them, you will find forgiveness. The Bible promises: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). 3. Believe in Jesus. God sent His only Son to die so that He could pay for all our sins. Put your faith in Him and believe in His power to save you. The Bible says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). 4. Receive His salvation. God has given us a great gift in His Son, but we must receive His gift. Thank Him for loving and forgiving you, and ask Him to live in your heart. His promise to us is clear: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). 5. Confess your faith. The Bible assures us: If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9). You have been born again and are now part of God s family. Tell someone else what Jesus has done in your life! Children are Waiting For A Forever Family! Meet Cassandra When you first meet Cassandra, she is quiet, softspoken and shy. But once she warms up to you, Cassandra easily engages in conversation. Cassandra s face lights up when you talk about music. According to her music teacher, Cassandra enjoys singing RAP and Gospel songs and enjoys giving singing performances at her school Cassandra enjoys working and having her own money. Cassandra is ready and eager to be adopted. She would like to have a family that is relatively active; going out to eat, shopping and doing other week end activities. A family with dogs or cats would be fine according to Cassandra. Cassandra needs a family that will help with build her self esteem and demonstrate unconditional love and acceptance toward her. Could you be her forever family? If you are interested in more information about Cassandra, please contact Virginia One Church, One Child at (804) 329 3420 or contact Deaconess Dorothy Robinson at (804) 266 3118. BIBLICAL ENCOURAGEMENT MINISTRY As Americans, we have freedoms afforded us by the Bill of Rights in the U.S. Constitution. Our freedoms include the freedom to assemble, to petition our government, freedom of the press, and freedom of religion. As citizens of the kingdom of God, Christ has also set us free. What are we free from? How do we exercise our freedoms? And, what limits us from enjoying our liberty? Come join us for an interactive discussion about our response to being made free thru Jesus Christ. Presented by: The Hope Biblical Encouragement Ministry Wednesday, May 4, 2011 @ 7:00 pm Mt.
