Encouraging STF Trainees at UTS August 21, 2008 InJin Nim met with STF trainees and their families at UTS. InJin Nim, who was introduced by Dr. Pyeong Hwa Kim who attended with her, spoke about her time when she was a young girl and True Parents were directly governing many workshops at UTS. She said that now that she received this big responsibility from True Parents, the first thing she needs to do is to listen. She said that she would listen to everything, to what was done well and not done well, in order to unite America. Looking at precious 2nd generation born as a result of True Parents Blessings, InJin Nim expressed that she feels a great amount of responsibility, not as a sister to them but as a mother. She asked them to grow up to be great future leaders of the Unification Movement with the identity of people especially chosen as children of Blessed Families. She asked them to become people who can help others, people who can make others happy and people who can be grateful all the time. After her speech, InJin Nim led a Yute game in person. All the STF trainees gathered, and the men s team, led by Shin Myeong Nim and the women s team, led by Shin Seon Nim, competed against one another. The men s team won two out of three games, receiving the prize from InJin Nim. 2

STF Visits InJin Nim s Home September 7, 2008 InJin Nim invited over 30 young American STF trainees to a BBQ party in her home. The continental director couple attended this event as well. InJin Nim prepared the food for the guests herself. Everyone had a joyful time together at this event. On STF trainee said that this day was very meaningful. Another said that the laughter and happiness shared by InJin Nim s family and all the guests let her feel the warm love within InJin Nim s family. 3

New Jersey Visit (New Jerusalem Church) September 14, 2008 On August 14, Father appointed InJin Nim to be the chairman of FFWPU America. Since then, she took time to dedicate herself internally before starting on a national tour. On September 14, as the first step of the tour, she visited the New Jersey district, where she conveyed True Parents love and shared her vision of hope for a brighter future, centering on the year 2013 as a goal. As the newly inaugurated chairperson, she made this an opportunity to meet with local members, who determined to make a new beginning together with InJin Nim. InJin Nim was introduced by Rev. Michael Jenkins and welcomed to the podium with a great round of applause. In her sermon, she thanked American members for their sacrificial effort, and asked them to not forget their families and the 2nd generation even during the busy progression of the providence. She spoke about the bright future of the American church, centering on the growing Peace Generation.... Summary of InJin Nim s speech... True Parents want America to wake up and become a nation that conveys true love. American members who were called by Father and have followed with all their hearts and true victors. I m sure that there have been times when you were tired or wounded. Let s watch out for and take care of each other in those types of situations, and not give up. As the new chairperson of HSA, I will continue to think about how to work together with 1st and 2nd generation. What our community teaches people of the world is important, but what I am more interested in is the kinds of lives that members of our community, including our children, are leading. People of the world are inspired to 1

see children that have grown up properly in good families. This continues to natural witnessing. Small things in life compound on one another in our life, bringing about a great result. A great way to educate children is to take time, even if just a small amount of time each day, to eat, pray or talk about God s Will with your children. If 2nd generation look at their parents from generally held viewpoints of people in the world, it s easy to see their parents as failures with nothing in their possession. But in reality, 1st generation gave their lives to follow True Parents because they knew who True Parents were and about the providence when no one else did. 1st generation also know the value of a couple getting along despite all difficulties along the way. You should be proud to have such parents and have conviction in your identity. Let s become part of a new Generation Peace that can fulfill these kinds of peace ideals. In order to live for the sake of others, you first have to be successful in society. Please give all your passion into working toward a clear goal. As the chairperson of America, I feel heavy responsibility for the church s future. In America, where culture has an absolute influence on people, I will make a lot of investment in 2nd generation who have various talents and potential, in order to protect youth in America and to prepare a framework for future-oriented mission work.... Members who heard InJin Nim s speech on this day could relate with her natural witnessing methodology. One Japanese member said that she gained confidence in witnessing after hearing InJin Nim speak. The New Jerusalem Church specially borrowed the Woodrow Wilson Middle School, which was near the church, for the service. Over 500 members attended, totally filling the school auditorium. Talented students sang, played the violin, and performed African dances to welcome InJin Nim. 2

After the service, InJin Nim had lunch (pizza) together with local members. Four of InJin Nim s children (ShinKwon, ShinSun, ShinYul, ShinPyung) played Yute with over 200 2nd generation. InJin Nim held a town hall meeting with members in order to receive reports about the specific situation of the church. The high temperatures (over 90 degrees Fahrenheit) and high humidity levels did not keep InJin Nim from listening to the reports with a sincere and attentive heart. The members were able to unite with InJin Nim thanks to her sincerity. From early morning to late evening, members could spend time with InJin Nim s family, from the Sunday Service to the Yute games, to discussing how our movement can grow by 2013. Brothers and sisters who had a deep experience together could forget about the heavy heat even though they were sweating buckets. Finally, at 5pm, the members sent off InJin Nim s family after a very rewarding day together with them. Amidst the reports, InJin Nim gave advice to members, such as, listen first to your children, have the mindset that you are working together, interact more with the KEA (churches with services in Korean). InJin Nim gave bracelets with Generation Peace written on them to all the 2nd generation who participated in the Yute games. 3

UTS Visit (Unification Theological Seminary) September 17, 2008 InJin Nim visited UTS on September 17, a seminary which Father put much love and devotion into founding and raising. Together with faculty, staff and students, InJin Nim revisited Father s vision for UTS and discussed the current situation and development plans for UTS. During the weekly interreligious Wednesday service, InJin Nim emphasized that UTS is like Heaven, a place where peace is realized among young students from all around the world who have come to study the founder s teachings from various national and religious backgrounds. She received a big round of applause when she encouraged those in attendance to spread the peace attained at UTS all around the world. Many of the participants were impressed by InJin Nim s simple yet logical, graceful and composed manner of speech.... Summary of InJin Nim s speech... UTS is a place with many of my young memories with True Parents and my brothers and sisters. True Parents established UTS with a special purpose, in order to complete Jesus mission. Students that studied at UTS were taken fishing by Father and taken to McDonalds by Father. When I saw that, I thought that they were specially prepared people. People get inspired but can sometimes lose their inspiration over time. But we must always remember our precious moments with True Parents. I was also distant 4

from True Parents at one time. But now that I have come back, when I look in my parents eyes, I see that they haven t changed since when they taught me about nature and about life when I was young. We should realize that our identities are entwined with True Parents and always remember the times that True Parents gave us vitality for our life and encouraged us. The young people of today think that money is the most important thing and are most interested in what they can get for themselves. But the more important thing is to discover who you are and to be interested in helping others develop their God-given personality. The reason UTS is different than other places is that True Father and True Mother s greatness is represented here. When I was driving, I saw a bumper sticker that talked about co-existing. But I don t think co-existing is enough. UTS is a place where we try to live together in an environment of true love, rather than merely trying to co-exist. There are many people here from many races and many places in the world. Ask yourselves why you are here. If you can t understand someone, then you can t love her. You can start to love someone when you start to feel that you understand him. The purpose of attending this school is to understand and moreover love the people of other races and religions who are here with you in this school. Mother-like values include peace, love and understanding. The value of women is to raise up others who sacrifice for us. I expect that UTS will create a true Generation Peace.... After the service, InJin Nim ate lunch with faculty and students in the cafeteria. She was greeted by 16 freshmen from various countries, such as America, Korea, Japan, Bolivia, Turkey, Congo, India, Hungary, Zambia and Israel. During the greetings, one of the freshmen, Anastasia from Moldova, a daughter of a Lutheran 5

minister, expressed that she was very moved by InJin Nim s speech and felt as though her mother was talking to her while she listened to InJin Nim. Anastasia broke out in tears and could not finish what she was going to say. The student government gave InJin Nim a soap set prepared by a member living nearby. After lunch, InJin Nim was given a tour of the grounds, shown the fishing nets made by Father and historical pictures, which were explained to her along the way. She even went to the boiler room and was listened to a story about the installation of boiler and pipe insulation. Those with InJin Nim learned that she has a deep love for UTS. preparing her to lead America from long ago. InJin Nim remained at UTS for the rest of the day, meeting with UTS representatives, Dr. Pyeong Hwa Kim and Dr. Michael Jenkins, discussing the management of the school, ways to develop the school, focusing on topics such as school curriculum, student recruitment, careers for graduates and fundraising. While InJin Nim was being shown the large lecture hall, she passed by a picture of her holding hands with Christian ministers, demonstrating against the US government when Father was in Danbury prison. It made those in her attendance realize that heaven has been 6

Washington D.C. Visit (New Hope Family Church) September 20~21, 2008 On September 20-21, InJin Nim visited the center of the American providence, the Washington, DC district (district director = Rev. Randall Francis). She spent her whole visit guiding members and closely examining the situation of the church HQ and DC district. On Saturday morning, as soon as she arrived, she started receiving reports from ACLC, MEPI and WAIF, which are special peace-oriented programs affiliated with our church. She gave encouragement to all who presented and especially asked Mrs. Paterson to do her best to help Father get the Noble Peace Prize for his sacrificial work to bring about world peace. From 2pm, InJin Nim received reports from five churches in the district (National Cathedral, Northern Virginia, New Hope, Richmond, KEA) in a town hall meeting. Before the reports, InJin Nim gave some advice about having good relationships between husbands and wives and effectively educating children. Even though the reports lasted a long time, InJin Nim continued to make eye contact and listened to the whole reports. That helped those giving the reports and the members who were listening to feel that their work had been valuable. For dinner, American members who joined in the 1960s were invited to share their experiences with True Parents in their youth and give their opinions on the future of the American church. Early Sunday morning, after Hoon Dok Hwe, InJin Nim told the 80 2nd generation in attendance to clearly understand their identity and live passionately in order to fully realize their God-given potential and fully use their God-given talents. Then each of the 2nd generation introduced themselves to InJin Nim. When Miken Jenkins, son of the president of our movement, explained that he got blessed to a 2nd generation from Germany whom he met while on STF Europe, InJin Nim jokingly asked if he had gone to Europe to find a spouse. After InJin Nim had breakfast with all in attendance, 7

she went to the New Hope Academy and gave a deep speech to the 600 members in attendance of the districtlevel service. Before InJin Nim spoke, Rev. Michael Jenkins read some testimonies from members in New Jersey who heard her speak there. He introduced her as a true American leader who knows how to listen to American people and who can deeply understand Americans.... Summary of InJin Nim s speech... I wanted to go to Alaska to meet True Parents but Father said that Washington is a very very very (Father repeated the word very three times) important area, so I should be with members in this area. (When members heard this, they said, Wow! ) Many Blessed Couples did not choose their Blessing partner. Father chose their partner. You, who are here today thanks to your connection with Father, and children who were born to such couples are Godtouched, specially chosen precious people. I hope that you can live precious lives, knowing your identity. We have to create model beautiful families in order to show the world how great True Parents are. (In Jin Nim talked about an experience of when she was Blessed with Jin Sung Nim. As In Jin Nim talked about her experience, the members atmosphere became very warm.) Some Blessed Couples wish they could have experienced romantic love. Those people should make effort to create beautiful love with their precious chosen spouses starting from now. As we can see in the example of the presidential candidate Mr. Obama, America is the land of dreams. America is a powerful nation which can influence the world. American society has changed a lot since the early days of our church and we have gone beyond the level of pioneering to the level of becoming part of mainstream society. We should think about how we want to influence 8

society. Until the 2013 deadline of establishing Cheon Il Guk, I want to clean up Father s image, especially on the internet. I will certainly establish his image as a strong man, a peacemaker, a man of peace, a peacebuilder, who hasn t stopped from when he was 16 until now, when he is over 89 years old. 2nd generation, please become part of a new Generation Peace, which will build a peaceful world following True Parents will and desire. While True Parents have been trying to fulfill their mission, they have sacrificed their family, the Unification Church, and have given their lives for sake of fulfilling God s Will. Many people of the world could not understand True Parents life, so many negative things have been said about them. Now we need to tell the truth about True Parents so they can be properly evaluated. That would be the greatest gift I could give to them as their daughter. We should also build a world in which our children can be proud that they are Unification Church members. HyoJin Nim realized the importance of media early on and put all his passion into pioneering that field. I will continue HyoJin Nim s work. Father invested a lot of money, time and effort into teaching American young people about true spiritual values and raising them to be responsible leaders. But negative reports in the media made it so that Father s true value was hard for people to see. We should show the world exemplary families and great children, and tell them that our families and children are a result of True Parents teachings. At first, it will seem slow, but it is a more powerful and long-lasting method of witnessing, that is natural witnessing. It s good to invite influential VIPs to events, but we could also work to raise our children to be influential VIPs. (applause and cheering in the audience) I have frequently heard Father scolding American sisters firmly. The reason he did that is he knows the great influence American women can possess in a nation that is a superpower. Father scolds when he has high expectations. I am a woman with an American citizenship 9

and Father appointed me to be the chairperson of the American church. It is finally the age of women now. Let s show the world what American women are capable of! (cheers and applause of women in the audience) Let s build a community in which we build good families, successfully raise our children and truly practice living for the sake of others.... InJin Nim spoke in a quiet and calm voice, breaking down the message to make it easier to understand and to make it clear. Many members who heard her speak exclaimed that she has the power to move people s hearts. that it would help her children s lives and would become a weapon to help them overcome difficulties. After the service, two of InJin Nim s children, Shin Yeol and Shin Pyeong, joined InJin Nim, Jin Sung Nim and the local members for lunch outside in the good weather. The members were busy taking turns taking pictures with InJin Nim while she ate, and InJin Nim would stop eating to talk with members who came to greet her. After lunch, Rev. Jenkins gave InJin Nim a tour of the United Federation of Churches building, which is also the national church HQ building. That concluded InJin Nim s schedule in the Washington, DC district. One Washington member with two sons and one daughter said that she was so happy to hear the top church leader in America, who is also a True Child, say with her own mouth that our children are important beings, who must be educated and raised well. She said 10

Meeting with WFWP Leaders September 24, 2008 On Sept. 24th WFWP, USA had a meeting for 4 hours with InJin Nim at the New Yorker Hotel. A report of WFWP s activities over the past ten years was prepared for her and the meeting began with introductions, including brief remarks of each participant s experience with WFWP. As each participant shared their thoughts and experiences, InJin Nim shared her thoughts openly. She mentioned that the WFWP members should be proud of their femininity and develop their own unique style of leadership. InJin Nim thought that culture is the key and suggested doing something with cooking: learn and understand the best from each culture, and because women and mothers have many things in common such as families, cooking, beauty, it is easier to relate to women and mothers in this way. InJin Nim also suggested doing things in America that will empower women to make them feel that they are building peace. She also emphasized that in order to cultivate true and enduring peace they should be doing work with the youngest members of the society. She suggested to create a hotline for teens so they can talk to someone about their struggles, in cases that they can t talk to their parents. InJin Nim encouraged having second gen moving, inspiring them so they feel they are needed and that things will move faster with their involvement. She asked everyone to be strong and carry themselves with dignity because we have to educate women about their value and reach the hearts of all women. This meeting was a special time for the WFWP members because InJin Nim shared openly about her experiences and insights as a mother. Through deep sharing as mothers and women, those in attendance came to feel that she sees the world through the heart of a mother. 11

Meeting with Witnessing Summit Committee September 27, 2008 The Witnessing Summit Steering Committee was put together in August 2007 centering on Ms. Sheri Reuter. Through the six National Witnessing Summits, it is in the process of settlement. This was the first meeting in which all the members of the steering committee got together with InJin Nim. It was an opportunity to report to InJin Nim about their work so far, share their witnessing results. InJin Nim showed much interest in their work and gave them words of encouragement. A second generation member named David Hunter said that the Witnessing Summit is bringing a spiritual revolution to America and is helping 2nd generation to be more active. He reported that the following are needed: First, an educational system to educated new member, Second, clarification of the identity of our movemet, Third, spreading the heart and passion for witnessing, Fourth, creating a culture in our church that is appropriate for American young people. InJin Nim asked all the headquarter departments to work in unity and she emphasized the importance of families and educating young children. She said that she would create more opportunities for 2nd generation to go close to True Parents, and she emphasized that each individual member should contribute to the providence using all his or her strengths and talents. Also, InJin Nim said that Sunday School should be interesting and exciting. She suggested making newsletters or workbooks for use in Sunday School. For witnessing, InJin Nim suggested using the NY headquarters building or the Boston church building to hold many good programs, taking advantage of the good locations of those buildings. She also suggested developing the church brand through the internet and opening a new horizon for witnessing. InJin Nim said that our movement has a culture in which Unification Family members come together beyond the boundaries of race and nationality to create a Worldwide Universal Family. She asked all present to live a life of witnessing starting from their families in order to naturally attract other individuals and families. InJin Nim encouraged all who were present and closed the meeting which turned out to be over five hours long. 12

CARP Meeting September 27, 2008 On September 27, 2008, about 60 students from CARP USA had the opportunity to meet with InJin Nim s family for 4 hours at the 43rd street HQ. The program started with reports by CARP regional representatives from CT, NY, MA, DC, and NJ, and testimonies by NLTP members. After hearing the reports and testimonies, InJin Nim spoke. She spoke about how each and everyone was hand-picked by God and that we should not forget that we are God s children and that wherever we go, whoever we meet, we should have the heart to be ambassadors of God. InJin Nim explained that natural witnessing starts by building true relationships with others. Also before one witnesses or does outreach, if they are living a life with confidence and feel happiness and growth, they will naturally attract people through their lifestyle. If we live a life centered on the principle we can have direct impacts on other peoples lives. She mentioned that many times we forget that the purpose of our existence is joy and that at the end of the day what is important is to feel loved and confident about one s destiny. She also spoke about the kind of education that could be powerful in the future. Through her speech she gave much hope and encouragement to all the CARP members. The meeting concluded with a group picture and a buffet dinner. 13

New York District Visit (Camp Sunrise) September 28, 2008 InJin Nim spoke at the outdoor Sunday Service held at Camp Sunrise on September 28 for the New York district (district director = Bruce Grodner). She gave encouragement to the families gathered and gave dreams and hope to their children. During this outdoor service, over 100 middle and high school students who had gathered for the 2nd Generation Fall Festival from surrounding states came together with their parents, totaling over 800 members. Hyo Jin Nim s children, Shin Chul, Shin Yeo, Shin Hung and Shin Soon also attended the service. Dr. Pyeong Hwa Kim, who had returned from Kodiak the night before, talked about True Parents current situation, how they are healthy despite the recent helicopter accident. Next, Rev. Jenkins introduced InJin Nim saying, InJin Nim wants to know all the members, from the eldest to the youngest children. That s how much love she has and she is deeply inspiring members. She is giving dreams and hopes to the young people.... Summary of InJin Nim s speech... When I saw Dr and Dr Kim, I saw how happy they were to be coming back from spending intimate, wonderful time with True Parents. He really loves the 1st generation more than his children. So when I see True Parents heart of wanting their children to really invest and not spend time with them, but to really invest in the membership, I realize how much True Parents really love all of you. True Parents have invested a lot for Washington Times to save the world from communism. And as a Carp leader HyoJin Nim hated to have to fight Communism in front of the Berlin Wall. HyoJin Nim also tried to strategize a way to influence America through Media. Right now most of the young 14

kids are accepting various cultures like Rock and Roll but it is because of HyoJin Nim s influence that we are able to recreate this kind of culture into our own. We can influence the American society by making an Ideal Family. Ideal Family means, I deal with family. I deal with spouse. I deal with children. When you overcome all problems we grow. Let us all become leaders by having the sacrificial heart within our family, schools or in our society. There are times when we have suffered but up until now when we come together to overcome those sufferings, that suffering comes to have a special meaning and we are able to accept it with beauty. From now we will all overcome those difficulties. You are all specially chosen people. You are all spiritual winners and the hero of this nation. The 2nd generation will come to respect their parent s sacrificial life and will be harvest the seed of the fruit that their parents have planted. There was this 22-year-old young student who having graduated from college, looking toward applying to graduate program, and realizing her financial situation, that she had no money to pay for graduate school. She came on CNN, on national TV, seeking highest bidders to the right to have her purity to pay for her education. She said that when she was a young girl she was believed in possibility of romantic love but now she realized that it wasn t worth the value. And my friend who saw this on CNN was lamented seeing the realization of America. We as a community must influence the world with the value of a Ideal Family.
