From the Pastor s Desk P A G E 2 If My People... It is no secret that this nation of ours is sick and headed in a direction that is leading to its destruction as we witness the wickedness and evil of our government leaders who are more concerned about their agenda than what is right, just and fair for the people they are called and elected to serve. We are no longer the United States of America, but this nation is becoming more of a divided nation by political parties, by race and by the haves and the have nots. Hatred and racism continue to be on the rise, as our government makes policies, decision and public statements that foster, promote and condone those attitudes. We have lost our core values of respect, honesty, integrity, fairness, and justice and have certainly lost our way spiritually even though we proclaim to be one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Recent events here in our nation, particularly the decision to appoint a new supreme court justice, and the hearings, allegations and investigations that have followed, are just indicators and symptoms of how sick and corrupt this land that we live in has become. But in spite of, and in the midst of, all the evil and wickedness that takes place on a daily basis in this nation there is still hope and there is a remedy for the ills we are experiencing that God has declared in His word for any nation. We don t have to settle for what we see and hear and read about every day on the news and in the newspaper that upsets us and goes against every principle that we believe in and stand on. We need not complain about or blame those who are perpetrators of these acts and decisions for our condition and the circumstances we find ourselves in. For the God that we serve said, If my people! That phrase alone let s us know who God is expecting to do something about the condition of this nation and help change its course. Those who claim to know Him and who truly belong to Him. Those who fill our churches and sanctuaries and worship and praise His name every Sunday morning. Those of us who read, study and declare His word, who God has called to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. The complete scripture says, If my people who are called by my name would humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. But it doesn t stop there. Because God expects us to do more than just pray, but seek His face for how we are to respond to the crisis we are in. Maybe God will say, If my people will speak out and against the evil in their government. Or, If my people would get involved and active in the communities they live in. Or, If my people would vote, and vote every election and vote for leaders who would promote righteousness, justice and fairness. Maybe God wants us to use the power and authority He s already given us to make a difference and change the direction our nation is headed. Maybe He wants to use us to heal the land. One of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King s quotes says that, the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men (women) to do nothing. My hope and prayer is that good people, God s people, begin to see ourselves as the solution to the problems we face in our nation like God created and designed us to be. Because for every challenge we face, He is still challenging us with the same response, If my people.. Annual Seminar Excitement It s that time of year again as we prepare for our Annual Seminar which will be held this year on Monday, November 12 th through Wednesday, the 14 th.
