New Memorial Bench at Allen Building In memory of Charlotte June Frist Faucette Chesnutt and in honor of Calvin Chesnutt, the session has received the gift of a memorial bench, which has now been installed in the area just in front of the Allen Building. Marylyn & Olson Huff donated the bench; the Montreat Conference Center approved the installation, and their workers installed it for us last week. It is beautiful and sturdy, a fitting testament to the honorees. We are grateful for this much-needed gift which not only makes it much easier for those waiting for rides when events are held in our ministry space, but is also a lovely and welcoming spot for the many people who pass through Montreat to rest a while and take in the beauty of our surroundings. Come try it out! Montreat Wednesday Presentation Wednesday, Oct. 10, 5:00 P.M. "Deep Listening" This Wednesday, Oct. 10, the Montreat Wednesday program is delighted to welcome Jeannie DuBose to lead a presentation on "Deep Listening." She will introduce the topic of true and honest listening, talk about ground rules, acknowledge the challenges to deep listening, and go over some practical applications. Keith Grogg will then lift up some Bible narratives to consider where "deep listening" lives for us in our scriptural life.

Jeannie DuBose holds a Masters in Counseling Psychology from Georgia State University, a Certificate in Spiritual Formation from Columbia Theological Seminary, is an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA), and is a member of Spiritual Directors International. She is the author of the illustrated memoir, The Mother Daughter Dance. Her second book, Tending the Fire: The Story of a Marriage, will be released January 1, 2019. Her office is in Black Mountain (jeanniedubose.org). All are welcome! Please join us this Wednesday, 5:00 P.M. in the Allen Building, 304 Lookout Road in Montreat. Thursday Morning Bible Study 10:00 A.M. in the Allen Building Thursday Morning Bible Study continues this Thursday, Oct. 11. Keith Grogg will be presenting the 6th lesson from the Kerygma book, Ministry in Galilee: Teaching. The Luke study takes place each Thursday morning through Dec. 13 (excluding Thanksgiving Day), 10:00-11:15 A.M. in the Allen Building. The Kerygma book on Luke's Gospel, Good News for All, is a guiding resource (purchase optional; copies are available from the church office). Discussion leaders include Mark Achtemeier, Cathie & Frank Dodson, Priscilla Durkin, Keith Grogg, and Sally Woodard. As always: All are welcome! Walk for Hunger Relief This Sunday, Oct. 14 - Register at 1:30 P.M. The annual SVCM Walk for Hunger Relief takes place this Sunday, Oct. 14.
