12 COMPOSER NOTES The settings o the hymn tune Wondrous Love contained in this octavo ere originally composed as chorale-like responses to various scenes o a larger composition entitled The Passion o Our Lord Jesus Christ According to John. They unctioned much like the chorale responses that J.S. Bach inserted into his passion settings. erses to and three make use o the Latin hymn tune Crux idelis ith an English text as a counterpoint to the hymn Wondrous Love. The congregation as their response to the passion, sang verse 5 hen this passion setting as used at St. Meinrad on Good Friday. These settings ould be appropriate or a uneral Mass or a ake service, as ell as part o a Lenten service. It ould also be appropriate or the Sunday ater Easter ith its theme o divine mercy. It could be used as a piece during the preparation o the gits hen the readings include the theme o God s love. For parishes ith an SAB choir the olloing adaptations are suggested: In verse 1, the Tenor I part ould be played by a solo instrument; and the Bass part by the organ, or another solo instrument. In verses 2 and 3, the treble (tenor) cle parts could be sung by the omen s voices ith the men singing the bass cle parts. In verse 4, the Tenor I part could be sung by the Sopranos and the Tenor II part sung by the Altos. In the Coda, the same arrangement as indicated above or verse 4 could be used.
