Opening Song Band The Power of the Cross 1 Keith & Kristyn Getty Oh, to see the dawn of the darkest day; Christ on the road to Calvary. Tried by sinful men, torn and beaten, then nailed to a cross of wood. REFRAIN This is the pow r of the cross 1 : Christ became sin for us. Took the blame, bore the wrath; We stand forgiven at the cross. Oh, to see the pain written on your face, bearing the awesome weight of sin. Ev ry bitter thought, ev ry evil deed Crowning your blood stained brow. REFRAIN Now the day light flees; Now the ground beneath quakes as its Maker bows his head. Curtain torn in two, dead are raised to life Finished! the victory cry. REFRAIN 1 The power of the cross is not the wood itself, but is a reference to Jesus sacrificial death on the cross where he paid for all of our sins. 3

We Confess Our Sins and Hear God s Promise of Forgiveness 2 (please stand) P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. C: And also with you. P: Brothers & sisters, Scripture says that All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Romans 6:23) It also reminds us that The wages of sin is death. (Romans 3:23) In short, sin is a big deal. Unfortunately, we cannot hide our sin. As Scripture teaches, Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. (Hebrews 4:13) Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy. C: Have mercy on me, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion, blot out my transgressions. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Cleanse me. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. (Psalm 51) P: Brothers & sisters, Scripture says, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just; he will forgive us all of our sins. (1 John 1:9) This is because: Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins and he was raised to life for our justification. (Romans 4:25) God did this because He so loved the world and He gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16) Go, then, in the peace of God's forgiveness. C: Alleluia! 2 1 John 1:9 says, If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us all our sins. So the Pastor assures our believing hearts of God s promise forgiveness of sins. 4

Song of Praise The Power of the Cross Keith & Kristyn Getty Oh, to see my name written in the wounds, for through your suff ring I am free. Death is crush to death, life is mine to live, won through your selfless love! This is the pow r of the cross: Son of God slain for us What a love, what a cost! We stand forgiven at the cross. Prayer of the Day P: Let us pray: Let your continual mercy, O Lord, cleanse and defend your Church; and because it cannot continue in safety without your help, protect and govern it always by your goodness; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. (be seated) 5

The Lesson 1 Peter 2:23-25 23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. Verse of the Day Malachi 3:7 Spoken together C: The Lord Almighty says, Return to me and I will return to you. Amen. Gospel Luke 15:1-7 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, This man welcomes sinners and eats with them. 3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn t he leave the ninety nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep. 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. 6

Kids Song This Is Amazing Grace! Sung by Precious Lambs (Kids) Amazing Grace how sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me I once was lost, but now am found Was blind but now I see! Who breaks the power of sin and darkness Whose love is mighty and so much stronger The King of Glory, the King above all kings Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder The King of Glory, the King above all kings REFRAIN (All) This is amazing grace This is unfailing love That you would take my place That you would bear my cross You lay down your life That I would be set free Oh, Jesus, I sing for All that you've done for me (Congregation) Who brings our chaos back into order? Who makes the orphan, a son and daughter? The King of Glory, the King of Glory. Who rules the nations with truth and justice? Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance? The king of Glory, the King above all Kings. REFRAIN 7

After the children's lesson, a staffed nursery is available. Meet the nursery workers in back, and they will take the kids to the playroom. You can pick them up at any time. Song of the Day Organ How Great Thou Art 3 (CW #256) 8

3 The words to this classic hymn were written when a sudden storm got the author's attention. Then just as suddenly as it made its appearance the storm dissipated. His thought: How great thou art! in power and mercy. 9

The Message Luke 15:1-7 RETURN: To the One Who Really, Really, Really Wants You Back 15 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. We Confess Our Faith in God (please stand) The Apostles Creed 4 (be seated) I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. This offering goes to support the ministry done here at Gethsemane. Please pass in your Connection Cards. Give online @ GatherToTheGarden.com/give Connect online @ GatherToTheGarden.com/connect 4 As we speak these words, we join with Christians throughout the centuries who have confessed the truths taught in Scripture with these words. 12

New Member Welcome Jake & Mayme, Ava, Scarlett, Oliver, Charlie Allen Jewell, Yodney Grant Ana Pina Ana Rivera Elise Sloey Response Praise to the Lord, The Almighty (v1,5) Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation! O my soul, praise him, for he is your health and salvation! Let all who hear Now to his temple draw near, Joining in glad adoration! Praise to the Lord! Oh, let all that is in me adore him! All that has life and breath, come now with praises before him! Let the Amen Sound from his people again; Gladly forever adore him! 13

Prayer of the Church Spoken by the Pastor Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Blessing P: Brothers and sisters, go in peace. Live in harmony with one another. Serve the Lord with gladness. The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace. C: Amen! (be seated) 14

Closing Song Because He Lives 5 I believe in the Son I believe in the risen One I believe I overcome By the power of his blood Amen, Amen I'm alive, I'm alive Because he lives Amen, Amen Let my song join the one that never ends Because he lives I was dead in the grave I was covered in sin and shame I heard mercy call my name He rolled the stone away Amen, Amen I'm alive, I'm alive Because he lives Amen, Amen Let my song join the one that never ends Because he lives I can face tomorrow Because he lives Every fear is gone I know he holds my life, my future in his hands. Amen, Amen I'm alive, I'm alive Because he lives Amen, Amen Let my song join the one that never ends. (x2) Matt Maher 5 I m alive, I'm alive because he lives! This is not a reference to the physical life we have right now. Rather, it is a reference to the new life and joy that we have apart from sin and shame. For, Just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. (Romans 6:4) 15
