Opening Song (please stand) Lord, I Lift Your Name on High (Donnie McGlurkin) Lord I lift your name on high Lord I love to sing your praises I'm so glad you are in my life I'm so glad you came to save us. You came from heaven to earth, to show the way From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky Lord I lift your name on high. Lord I lift your name on high Lord I love to sing your praises I'm so glad you are in my life I'm so glad you came to save us You came from heaven to earth, to show the way From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky Lord I lift your name on high. Lord I lift your name on high Lord I love to sing your praises I'm so glad you are in my life I'm so glad you came to save us You came from heaven to earth, to show the way From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky Lord I lift your name on high 3

We Confess Our Sins and Hear God s Promise of Forgiveness 1 P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. C: And also with you. P: Brothers & sisters, Scripture says that All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (Romans 6:23) It also reminds us that The wages of sin is death. (Romans 3:23) In short, sin is a big deal. Unfortunately, we cannot hide our sin. As Scripture teaches, Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. (Hebrews 4:13) Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy. C: Have mercy on me, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion, blot out my transgressions. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Cleanse me. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. (Psalm 51) P: Brothers & sisters, Scripture says, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just; he will forgive us all of our sins. (1 John 1:9) This is because: Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins and he was raised to life for our justification. (Romans 4:25) God did this because He so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16) Go, then, in the peace of God's forgiveness. C: Alleluia! P: In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord. 1 Not that a pastor has the ability to forgive sins on his own, but Jesus tells his disciples: If you forgive anyone's sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven (Jn. 20:23) In other words, as Christians we pass on to each other the message of the Gospel with full confidence that it is truth: We have forgiveness of sins because of Jesus. 4

Song of Praise Lord, I Lift Your Name on High(Reprise) Lord I lift your name on high Lord I love to sing your praises I'm so glad you are in my life I'm so glad you came to save us You came from heaven to earth, to show the way From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky Lord I lift your name on high Prayer of the Day P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Let us pray: Grant, O merciful Lord, to your faithful people pardon and peace that they may be cleansed from all their sins and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. (be seated) 5

First Lesson Isaiah 55:8-13 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the L. 9 As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. 12 You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. 13 Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the L s renown, for an everlasting sign, that will endure forever. 6

Psalm of the Day Psalm 90 Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night. You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. You turn mortals back to dust. You sweep them away in the sleep of death. The length of our days is seventy years or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is but trouble and sorrow. Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. 7

Second Lesson Acts 26:13-29 13 About noon, King Agrippa, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. 14 We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, j Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads. 15 Then I asked, Who are you, Lord? I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting, the Lord replied. 16 Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me. 17 I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them 18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me. 19 So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven. 20 First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds. 21 That is why some Jews seized me in the temple courts and tried to kill me. 22 But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen 23 that the Messiah would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would bring the message of light to his own people and to the Gentiles. 24 At this point Festus interrupted Paul s defense. You are out of your mind, Paul! he shouted. Your great learning is driving you insane. 25 I am not insane, most excellent Festus, Paul replied. What I am saying is true and reasonable. 26 The king is familiar with these things, and I can speak freely to him. I am convinced that none of this has escaped his notice, because it was not done in a corner. 27 King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know you do. 28 Then Agrippa said to Paul, Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian? 29 Paul replied, Short time or long I pray God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am, except for these chains. 8

We Confess Our Faith in God The Nicene Creed 2 (please stand) We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became fully human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. (be seated) After the children's lesson, a staffed nursery is available. Meet the nursery workers in back, and they will take the kids to the playroom. You can pick them up at any time. 2 The Nicene Creed has been used by Christians for centuries in order to confess their belief in the All Powerful God in the way that Scripture reveals him. 9

Song of the Day Nailed to the Cross 2 When I stand accused by my regrets And the devil roars his empty threats I will preach the gospel to myself That I am not a man condemned For Jesus Christ is my defense My sin is nailed to the cross My soul is healed by the scars The weight of guilt I bear no more Praise the Lord, praise the Lord When my doubt and shame hang over me Like the arrows of the enemy I will run again to Calvary That rugged hill of hell's defeat My fortress and my victory My sin is nailed to the cross My soul is healed by the scars The weight of guilt I bear no more Praise the Lord, praise the Lord My sin is nailed to the cross My soul is healed by the scars Now I'm alive forevermore Praise the Lord, praise the Lord It is finished, sin is vanquished Hallelujah, praise the Lord All the glory, all the honor To my Savior, Christ the Lord It is finished, sin is vanquished Hallelujah, praise the Lord All the glory, all the honor To my Savior, Christ the Lord When I stand before the throne at last His blood will plead my innocence I will worship him with holy hands And raise the song that never ends Of Jesus Christ, my righteousness My sin is nailed to the cross My soul is healed by the scars Now I'm alive forevermore Praise the Lord, praise the Lord 2?It is finished! is what Jesus cried from the cross. His work was done work that won for us complete forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life! Our sin was destroyed. It had been nailed to the cross. 10

The Message The Kingdom of God Is Like...A Growing Seed Mark 4:26-29 26 He also said, This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come. (please stand) Prayer of the Church Spoken by the Pastor The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. The Words of Institution 3 P: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and give it to his disciples, saying, Take and eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks and gave it to all of his disciples, saying, Drink from it all of you. This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you, for the forgiveness of all of your sins. Do this, whenever you drink of it, in remembrance of me. The peace of the Lord be with you always. C: Amen. 3 We practice Close communion. If you are a guest, please speak with pastor before communing. 14

We Give Thanks to God (please stand) P: Lord, now you let your servant depart in peace according to your word. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared before the face of all people, a light to lighten the Gentiles and the glory of your people Israel. The Blessing P: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace. C: Amen! (be seated) Closing Song Greater 4 (MercyMe) Bring your tired And bring your shame Bring your guilt And bring your pain Don t you know that s not your name You will always be much more to me Every day I wrestle with the voices That keep telling me I m not right But that s alright 14 Galatians 3:13 says, Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. That means our sin don t determine who we are Christ does. We listen to God s voice in his Word, not the voices of the world and trust: We are redeemed by Jesus! 18

REFRAIN Cause I hear a voice and he calls me redeemed When others say I ll never be enough And greater is the One living inside of me Than he who is living in the world In the world In the world And greater is the One living inside of me Than he who is living in the world Bring your doubts And bring your fears Bring your hurt And bring your tears There ll be no condemnation here You are holy, righteous and redeemed Every time I fall There ll be those who will call me A mistake Well that s okay REFRAIN (repeat 2x) There ll be days I lose the battle Grace says that it doesn t matter Cause the cross already won the war He s greater, he s greater I am learning to run freely Understanding just how he sees me And it makes me love him more and more He s greater, he s greater REFRAIN There ll be days I lose the battle Grace says that it doesn t matter Cause the cross already won the war He s greater, he s greater I am learning to run freely Understanding just how he sees me And it makes me love him more and more My God is greater (He s greater, he s greater) Than he who is living in the world 19
