REPORT FOR THE YEAR 1940-41 WE are again able to record an increase in the sales of books. The total this year is 34,724, an increase of 3,595 on the record number of last year. The sales of tracts, too, have returned to normal, and number 1,35,400. Our best seller is ' Jisur Kahini', 4,352 copies. Three booklets for Muslims, Manaber Dusman Pap', 'Khus Keccha', and' Praise be to God' are in the honours list, with the pice hymn book' Jiban Sangit', the Mirror of the Heart', and ' Rakhal Raja' Six new books were published during the year, and a number of other valuable books were approaching completion when our year ended. The six new books were all sponsored by the Christian Literature Board for Bengal, which secured for us grants to the amount of Rs.350. During September a Literature Commission was sent to Bengal by the National Christian Council at the request of the Christian Literature Board for Bengal. The Commission was a very infiuential one, and made a most careful survey of the situation with regard to the publication and distribution of Christian literature in Bengal. The Commission made a series of valuable recommendations, the first of which was that the Christian Literature Board and the Tract Society should be combined to form one body, with the Tract Society as a nucleus. These recommendations will be considered by the bodies concerned during the current year. We are grateful for ~he blessing of God on the work of the Society and those who distribute its publications, and pray for His guidance as we consider the proposals of the Commission. W. E. FRENCH.
