Volume 48, Issue 1 January 2017 Address: 1900 3 rd Ave. Anoka, MN, 55303 Phone: (763) 421-3357 Greetings from the East! Brothers, I have yet to sit in the East as your Master as I write this article, and yet many things weigh on my mind. First I would like to thank for all for allowing me to serve the lodge as Master, it is something I had hoped to be able to do, to try and assist the lodge to become an even better place than it already was. I knew this year would be the toughest of my Masonic life, but I also hope that in the end it is the most rewarding. For me this means leaving the lodge stronger then it was when I first sat in the oriental chair. merely a Brother who hopes he doesn t let you all down. Thanks to all those who came out to my Installation, including my Installation Team, our whole Masonic family who assisted, Daughters of Bethel #48, Anoka DeMolay, Brothers of Zion #2, and the members of Martha Chapter, who so graciously helped with serving food and cleaning up. It all meant the world to me! Terrance M Schaffer Worshipful Master To do this I need assistance from everyone, I need Patience for my inadequacies. Forgiveness for my transgressions, either perceived or real, and Understanding as I fumble through the year. Whispering good council in my ear and knowing that though I can t follow everyone s advice, I truly appreciate the guidance given. This year will bring many challenges for the lodge but I know if we continue to love each other and this lodge, and always act like Masons, using the trowel and other working tools to show us the way, we can have the year we all hope to have. As I stated at my Installation, I ask that you all communicate with me, share your thoughts and concerns, and know that if I fail, I do so while trying to do my best, that I am not perfect, but My Brothers and Classmates join me at my Installation as Master of Anoka Lodge #30

Greetings from the West! I would like to thank everyone for the vote of confidence by putting me into the west in 2017! Since this is my very first Star and Compass article, I would like to introduce myself and let everyone out there know a few things about me. I was born in Coon Rapids at Mercy Hospital, grew up in Ramsey, MN. I graduated from Anoka High School, attending college at Anoka- Ramsey Community College and Hi-Tech Institute, then working at Unity Hospital in Fridley, MN as a MPA for 10 years now. I have been married to my wife Tania for 4 years, and I have 1 daughter named Kelly who s 15 years old. I have been a Mason since September 2011 and have spent almost my entire Masonic career in the Anoka officer line, enjoying every minute of it! December was a very busy month for most of us with the Election, Star Wars movie party, Breakfast with Santa, Zombie Nerf party, and of course all of our own usual holiday traditions with family. January we will kick of the year by having the lodge of sorrow on the 4 th which is a wonderful ceremony and shouldn t be missed as we say goodbye to our departed brethren. The EA degree will be next to follow on the 18 th and I look forward to seeing more folks on the charitable activities committee meeting on the 20 th. I hope to see all of you at our next meeting and if I don t, Happy New Year and god bless! Tony Heimer Senior Warden Greetings from the South! I d like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone to 2017 we finished off 2016 with a bang. There were several events in December that show just how strong of a lodge we really are. Brothers coming together not necessarily for Masonic reasons but for the love of Star Wars to all watch an amazing movie together, thanks again WB Todd for planning and facilitating this, a good time was had by all (pics from Star Wars Movie night I know you have them Worshipful lol) The 1 st annual delivery of widow s poinsettias was a roaring success and the ladies loved spending time with the men their husband s had called brother and we reassured them we were there for them no matter what they need. I would like to personally thank all the brothers who came out and made this event a roaring success for its first (and hopefully not last) year (pics of poinsettia delivery) Breakfast with Santa went incredibly well, we came together once again and showed the community that we are here and we are a special place, thanks to The Big Man in Red for his appearance. (pics of breakfast with Santa) In closing I would like to invite every member of the Lodge to come to a meeting, I don t care which meeting or even if you have to leave early. It would just be nice to see you in lodge again because Anoka Lodge would not be the special place it is without all of its members, this includes everyone, WE make our lodge a place of Brotherly love and friendship. Jeremy Hill Junior Warden

We will be ordering off the menu, and you must RSVP to Chop by January 1 st if you plan on attending, and yes there will be cake! Widows Sons Cryptic Master President Chop 763-746-6720 Light from the L.E.O. Hello from LEO s Corner, this is Chop. My job is to provide light to the lodge and what better way to introduce this month s subject matter then to discuss light! What is the symbolism of light? Light is the symbol of knowledge. May every Mason strive for more light, and especially for the light that's inside us! When a society is assembled anywhere to do good, they require an influential person to communicate the light of experience, instruct them, and point out the way they should go, or bring light to them. This may be done symbolically or by suddenly lighting up a dark room with the flip of a switch. He who thus introduces the light into the lodge, must be a worthy man, and experienced in the Craft. I may not have the most experience but each month I will try to touch on subjects that I'm interested in. I hope you'll enjoy the light I bring to the table. Thomas Senenfelder II L.E.O. 763-746-6720
