Outside the Familiar But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8 Michael Farmer Amanda Mills Kaitlyn Schmucker Eli Stultz Costello Wesley Theological Seminary has a requirement for their students. Every student must participate in a cultural immersion experience. It doesn t have to be a mission trip. It doesn t have to be to another country. The requirement is that the experience places the student in a context that is significantly different from that with which they are most familiar and comfortable. July 5-16, a team of young adults from the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church will be going to Liberia. Four (pictured above) are going from Faith UMC. In Acts 1, before the risen Jesus ascended, leaving the disciples for a second time, Jesus promised them that they would receive power from the Holy Spirit and that they will be witnesses in Jerusalem, all Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth. On the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit did indeed come, diverse people were united, they heard and understood one another, the church was born and their witness to the world began. Since that time, Christians have been going to the ends of the earth to be witnesses of God s redeeming power through Christ. But, what has always been the case is that the missionary experiences the redeeming power of Christ already present and at work in the ends of the earth places and with the people who live there. Visit the Liberia Mission page http://www.faithumchurch.org/camphor-mission-liberia.html to read about our four missionaries. Pray for them, our Liberian sisters and brothers and for all of us that we will notice and experience the redeeming power of Christ at home and abroad and especially in settings that are unfamiliar and even uncomfortable to us. In ministry together, Pastor Steve If you would like to make a financial donation to support our four missionaries going to Liberia, you may write a check to Faith UMC and put Liberia Mission in the memo or visit https://secure.accessacs.com/access/oglogin.aspx?sn=159706 and select Liberia Mission Fund.

Behind The Scenes... We had a wonderful crew of kitchen helpers and servers gathered who work very hard at the Confirmation Banquet Dinner. Faith s families had the opportunity to raise caterpillars as they grew and transformed into butterflies. This past Pentecost Sunday they fluttered in excitement in the Memory Garden for the Butterfly Release.

Thanks to the generosity of Jan and Roger Baker and Jan and Joe Schoeppner we will be staying in their amazing homes in Lakeside. This year we have a total of 21 students and 14 adults who will be participating in the festivities of worship, speakers, swimming, ice cream and so much more! Remember us in your prayers for the weekend (especially us adults who are afraid of heights at Cedar Point!)

Service in Mission Ministry Team Faith Kitchen Do you have a few hours each month that you could spare to help Faith Kitchen? The opportunities are endless. You could be placing orders for eggs and bread, meeting the Community Harvest truck on Friday mornings, or repackaging food to name a few. Contact Fran Henne at 330-499-5275 for information. Garden of Weedin: A recent news article mentioned four benefits of gardening: Improved physical health Enhanced mental and social health Decreased stress and anxiety You can enjoy some of the same benefits by getting involved in our Garden of Weedin project. Get outdoors, work in the earth, water the vegetables, help with the harvest, or help make that famous salsa. This project of growing the vegetables and making salsa helps feed many hungry people in our area. Call Trudy Jones at 330-494-4723 or email her at trudy@neo.rr.com to get involved. We ll be planting late in May, depending on the weather. There are no meetings to attend. New gardeners will be given personal orientation to the garden process. We welcome your participation! Also, remember to bring empty pint jars to the office. Pennies for Paraguay Thanks to your contributions, we currently have $700 in our account for 2019. Please remember to support this worthy mission, so we can bring quality education and the message of salvation to the children and families in this impoverished country. In addition to coins, checks may be written to the church with Pennies for Paraguay on the memo line. If you have a large number of coins you would like to contribute, contact Trudy Jones at 330.494.4723 or trudy@neo.rr.com. We can arrange for a transfer of the coins which will be taken to a coin counting machine. You can receive an email with the amount of your contribution which would serve as a receipt for tax purposes. Every penny counts! We are also in need of two people or families to serve as communicators with two of our students. Amir is 15 and would like to become a chef. Maria is 16 and loves to travel. If you would be willing to send a few cards and/or emails to one of these students, please contact Trudy. We want them to have a personal relationship with our congregation.
