I m happy that we have our Awana-in- Action newsletter to keep Leaders and Clubbers updated on all our Club happenings! This is also an excellent tool to invite your classmates and friends to Awana. Give them an Awana newsletter and tell them about Christ. This is one way you can be a missionary for our Lord right at home! Talking about missions, we ll be launching our Awana Missions Project 2011 this term. Remember the shoebox gifts that we prepared in 2010 for the less privileged children at our mission stations overseas? Well, this year, we want to encourage our missionaries and their families in Sri Lanka as they spread the gospel in the villages. We want to share our blessings with them. This is a good opportunity to touch someone s life with an act of kindness. Let s also pray for our missionaries. Listen out for details in the coming weeks and get involved. This year, Awana celebrates its 20 th anniversary at Calvary BP Church. Indeed, we thank God for providing faithful Leaders to keep our Awana ministry going. A few of them have served since the beginning and we thank God for their example in service. All glory to God! Finally, let s congratulate these Activity Corner winners (2 nd Qtr 2011): Contest #1: Yohann Ho Contest #2: Aloysius Khoo & Elizabeth Lim Contest #3: Dickson Remember to check out this issue s Activity Corner on our Missions Project! Awana Kite-Flying Outing to Marina Barrage Last Saturday, I went to the Marina Barrage. There were lots of teachers and students. The weather was cool and windy. At the Marina Barrage, I flew my Awana Kite. At first, I had a lot of difficulties. Pastor Isaac, aunty Yu Ching and my mother helped me to fly my kite. I managed to get my kite to fly. I felt happy. After the kite flying, I was tired and hungry. I was in the Green Team. My team won the first prize. I felt like a champion. When everything has ended, I felt happy. I like the kite flying the most. I would like to go there again. I would like to thank God for the good weather. - Brandon Lin, Sparks I like the ball game the best and I ran so fast! - Jeidy Lim, Cubbies Page 2 The Marina Barrage is so big and beautiful. I saw so many people flying kites in the sky! - Aaryn Tan, Cubbies

Page 3 The cold popsicle tasted so cold and good! I was so thirsty! O n 26th May 2011, we went to Marina Barrage to celebrate Awana s 20th birthday. We had been given a plain kite each to design. Some of us were given presents for designing the most colourful or creative kites. Presents were also given to the person who put in the most effort in designing the kite. - Coen Ong, Cubbies It was a little crowded that day and a little hard to get the kite up but it was easier after a while. After that, we had an ice stick each for a snack then we went for the games. It drizzled for a while but soon, it cleared up. We had lunch after that. Then, we had prize-giving and went back to church. It was a fun day at Marina Barrage. - Jeniece Oon, Truth & Training Kite Design Contest Results 1 st Lee Chan-Mi 2 nd Rita 3 RD Benetton 1 st Nicole Lee 2 nd Joseph Chan 3 RD Jabez 1 st Elizabeth Lim 2 nd Shanice Lim 3 RD Leta Chan

Celebrating Awana s 20th Anniversary! Straight from the This term, we celebrate Leaders Appreciation Day. We thank God for the dedication of our Awana Leaders who have faithfully devoted their time to coaching the clubbers each week. Coming from all walks of life, they all have one goal in common: To help young hearts and minds to know the Lord, walk in His ways and serve Him. Heart Once a Clubber, now a Leader! I was with the Awana Club ever since I was 8 years old. At that time, Awana Club was newly set up in our church. I recall feeling excited whenever I put on my Sparks uniform. I still remember learning the Awana theme song and memorising verses every week. My Leaders then were very friendly and approachable. They were committed in helping me draw closer to God in my spiritual life by constantly nurturing me in the Word of God, and giving much encouragement. Page 4 Awana Cubbies Veterans I have been serving in the Awana Club for close to 10 years! It's a joy to see the children know more about God's plan of salvation. I'm also glad that I can tap on my teaching skills to serve in this children's ministry. - aunty Joanna Chua, Cubbies Leader I joined with other warriors of Awana Cubbies 20 years ago. Seeing little children grow up in the Lord and helping them overcome their initial shyness and fear to become confident individuals is such a joy! - aunty Winnie Loh, Cubbies Leader It was only natural that I decided to serve in Awana Cubbies when I graduated from Flame Club (now known as Truth & Training). Just as I have grown up in the Awana Club, I feel encouraged and inspired each time I see kids graduating from the Awana Club and returning to serve as Leaders. This Club will always be special to me as we try our best to reach out to many unchurched boys and girls in this neighbourhood, and bring them the message of salvation. It is my prayer that the Awana Club will continue to be an effective evangelism platform and a place where children's faith and character can be strengthened. - sister Florence Loh, Cubbies Leader

Page 5 s share what Awana is to them... AWANA is A children s ministry With Amazing clubbers N Awesome leaders who come together to seek and hear God s Word. - aunty Pat Selva, Sparks Director Awana is a time when we learn and recite God s Word. Every clubber is taught gospel songs and told gospel stories. - aunty Yu Ching, Awana is God s blessing. aunty Emily, Sparks Leader-in-Training Awana to me is character building towards godly ways for both clubbers and leaders. - aunty Alice Lee, Awana is time set aside where Christian brethren gather to spread the gospel to nonbelievers and believers alike. - uncle John Chan, Awana Club is a place where I can see the gospel seed sown unto the children. - aunty Theresa Loo, Awana gives me an opportunity to serve God and spread the gospel to young hearts. Awana is an effective Christian outreach to young children who don t come from Christian homes. It is a place for Christian fellowship among believers. - aunty Doreen Chan, - uncle Selva, Sparks Game Director Awana is a club where I can serve God in the children s ministry. It gives me great joy to help the clubbers under me to memorise His Word and these verses in return help me in my personal walk with Him. - aunty Wendy Ho, Awana is a place where children are spiritually strengthened and disciplined. - aunty Silvin Leong, Awana is a place where we can help bring the children away from the secular world (computer games etc.) to God s house so that we can share the gospel. We pray that God will use us to touch their lives. In so doing, Awana would be a meeting that clubbers would never want to miss. - aunty Anne & uncle Walter Tan Sparks Asst. Director & Leader more on the next page

...continued from the previous page T&T Leaders share their thoughts Thank God for another wonderful Awana outing recently! This would be my third Awana outing and I thank God for the opportunity to serve Him. I have learnt a lot serving with fellow Leaders at the T&T Club. Through this ministry, I see God s love reaching out to the children. Through Awana, we are able to reach children with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him. Learning about God, we come to place our faith in Christ. In obedience, we walk faithfully with Him, always rejoicing in the Lord. It is God who hath made us. This fact reminds us of His power and His love, and it should. God didn t make us from someone else s plan; He designed us according to His will and has a purpose for each of us. Let us therefore look forward to sharing God s love to every child who comes to Awana and encourage them in their spiritual walk. At Awana, clubbers learn that the Bible is God s Word and that prayer is important. They are encouraged to apply what they have learned in their daily lives as they grow in Christ. Our God is compassionate, merciful and powerful. Because of this, I will continue to serve Him. - sister Hui Vern, T&T Leader From Clubber to Leader-in-Training Hi Clubbers and fellow Leaders, I m brother Jing Wen (not uncle, despite what many T&T Clubbers say) and today I d like to share about my experience at Awana. Looking back, it s been a while since I first joined Awana as a Clubber in 2005. Admittedly, the main reasons I attended Awana then were to collect Awana shares and play games. Well, by God s grace and with Christian maturity, I slowly began to come to Awana for the right reasons. Having been a Clubber of Flame Club, then Truth & Training Club (T&T), and now an Awana Leader-in- Training, I guess I can offer a special perspective of Awana. As a Clubber, T&T was really enjoyable to me. Singspiration was always a nice time as my favourite songs were often sung. Council time was interesting and I enjoyed Handbook time, often competing with my friends to try and finish the handbooks fast! Games was always fun and the Page 6 snacks afterwards were nice. The transition from Clubber to Leader wasn t that difficult as I already knew most of the T&T Clubbers. With 4.5 years of Clubber experience, the Awana Leaders test (yes, there s one!) wasn t too hard for me. Harder for me was when I was put in charge of awards and games. Games wasn t too bad (except for a time where a certain Clubber kicked the ball onto the roof) but the awards took a while to get used to. For a time, I would only remember that I was in charge of awards when it was Awards Time, and I had to rush to my bag to take out the list and later to the cupboard to take out the awards (that still happens sometimes). Glad I ve gotten used to my roles now. Suffice to say, Awana has changed my life a lot for the better. By God s grace, I ve changed from a weak-in-faith Primary 4 to a growing-in-faith Seconday 4 Awana Leader-in-Training. I hope all of you will have a good and fun time in Awana! - brother Jing Wen, T&T Leader-in- Training

Council Time Nuggets Lessons learnt last term Page 7 Fritz & Fran series The Cubbies were taught how to relate their feelings about different situations in their everyday life under the Fritz and Fran series. They learnt about God's plan of salvation and how the children came to know God in various ways, the challenges they encountered after accepting Christ as their Saviour, and how they managed to overcome the challenges with God s help. - aunty Priscilla Toh, Cubbies Director Bible Study on Joseph The Sparkies learned about one of our most popular Bible characters, Joseph (Genesis 37). The story of Joseph was brought alive in six Council Time sessions. Through the Leaders animated and colourful presentations, the Sparkies learned to acknowledge God s mercy and love in every part of Joseph s life. The Sparkies learned that: Knowing God This term, we learnt about the Holy Trinity and other topics. The holy Godhead includes God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Trinity means three in one, threefold Father, Son and Holy Spirit = GOD. We learnt that proofs of the trinity are found both in the Old Testament and the New Testament. We concluded that each Person in the holy trinity is FULLY God God is three persons God never leaves us to be alone. He is always with us. It is always God s will in whatever happen to us. We must be a forgiving person, just like how God always forgives our mistakes. It is important to be a loving Christian. It is our prayer that the Clubbers, though young as they may be, trust God as their personal Saviour and will always strive to be Christ-like. God bless all. and there is only ONE God. - Shanice Lim & Sophia Shalini, T&T Clubbers - aunty Doreen Chan,
