May 9, 2018 PASTOR S NOTE Greetings MCC family! ENGAGING THE EMERGING CULTURE - Part 3 The Primacy of Community A Community of Faith can tap into the tribalism of the emerging culture, which is replacing the autonomous self of the enlightenment, and even the nuclear family, which is unraveling before our eyes. If the enemy, in the Fall brought alienation and isolation, the remedy is community. As the rebellion was against community, the restoration is through community. The Tower of Babel was an attempt to unite around something other than God-man s own ability and accomplishment. God would not permit that to succeed. The core was deficient, hollow, and lifeless. With Abraham, our communitarian God initiated a community built around Him, with His Grace at the center. At Pentecost Jesus recreated universal language-grace. Acts 2:5-12. Ultimately, community is found in God through the grace of Christ. People enter God s community through ADOPTION: Hosea 1:1-11; Gal. 4:1-9; Eph. 1:5-6. But initially community is experienced with one another through the Grace of His family the church. Jesus never wrote a book or established a school. Rather, His legacy was community. The greatest hermeneutic of the Gospel is a community that seeks to live by it. We should not seek community, but pursue love, a practice which yields community as a by-product. Brian McLaren, Authentic Community

Each member should have an assignment. Leader/intern/host/prayer/social/worship/outreach/ service/study. What holds a group together?
