Fifth Sunday of Easter Page 1 May 14, 2017 Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Our Lady s Apparition at Fatima, Portugal 1917-2017 Fatima is the most prominent approved apparition of the 20th century. We have events each month to help us increase our devotion to Our Lady; to encourage the recitation of the Rosary; to adore our Lord in the Eucharist; to better understand the importance of evangelization; and to grow closer with one another. Those who practice devotion to Our Lady on the 13th of the month between May and October will receive a Plenary Indulgence. Please pray the rosary every day. On 1st Saturdays of each month we pray the Rosary at 8:15am other days at 8:25am in the church. JOIN YOUR COMMUNITY FOR A HOLY HOUR SATURDAY, JUNE 3RD FOLLOWING THE 9AM MASS. The monthly gathering for June will be on Tuesday, June 13th at 7pm in the parish center and will focus on Mary s yes to the culture of life and will feature local speaker Theresa Deisher, Ph.D. scientist and stem cell expert. Dr. Deisher is the President of Sound Choice Pharmaceutical Institute, a cutting edge biomedical research organization. Dr. Deisher s career has focused on discovering and developing new therapies for grievous human illness. Dr. Deisher obtained her Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Physiology from Stanford University and has spent over 20 years in commercial biotechnology. Prior to founding AVM Biotechnology and Sound Choice Pharmaceutical Institute (SCPI), she worked with leading biotechnology companies, including Genentech, Repligen, ZymoGenetics, Immunex and Amgen. AVM Biotechnology is the marquee prolife biotech company worldwide, certifying that it does not use morally illicit material in any process. SCPI s mission is to end human trafficking in biomedical research. FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Other Upcoming Events: May 21, Final Queen of Heaven video: THE CONSECRATION: My Immaculate Heart Will Triumph. Shown after both Sunday liturgies. July 19th, 7pm, International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima comes to our parish. August 13th, Parish Picnic in honor of OLF. September 30-October 5th, Parish Mission. October 13th, Parish Banquet and celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima s Apparition. One of the most fantastic aspects of Our Lady of Fatima s message is that she entrusted it to children. Here is tip 1 (of 5) for guiding children into the heart of the message. The Importance of praying the Rosary for peace. One of Our Lady of Fatima s central messages was to pray the Rosary every day for peace. While the particulars of world conflict have changed since 1917, we continue to live in a world full of anger, violence, and war. Children are aware of this. Depending on their ages, they may be more or less aware of the global stage, but they are certainly aware of fighting in their own families, schools, or neighborhoods. They may feel powerless to help or make a difference. Praying the Rosary is one thing that they can do to help changes lives and hearts, starting with their own. While prayer is not a magic wand and God certainly does not always answer prayer on our timetable or in the way we think best, following the instructions of Mary to pray the Rosary can only help. This is an interdisciplinary project as it links to their social studies unit, studying our city, and their current novel, Maniac Magee. They spent time looking at the most needed items and then revised their lists, considering how they would make their favorite meal without refrigeration, a stove or oven, or maybe even a can opener. Finally, our school musical, Singin in the Rain, Jr. will be performed next weekend - May 18 @ 4pm, and May 19 & 20 @ 7pm.
