The Reading of God s Word: Job 38:1-11 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me. Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb, when I made clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, and prescribed limits for it and set bars and doors, and said, Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed? Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. Congregation: Thanks be to God. The Gospel: Mark 4:35-41 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, "Let us go across to the other side." And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, "Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?" And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, "Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?" And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, "Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey him?" Elder: This is the Gospel of the Lord. Congregation: Praise to You, O Christ. 4
The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Offering Please fill out the red Friendship Folder for your row then pass it to the person next to you. Please prayerfully consider helping Trinity retire this debt. A big Thank You! to Dr. K for his Bible study on 1 Samuel. TRINITY Announcements, con t Estate Received: Our beloved friend Bonnie Fleminger left a portion of her estate to Trinity Lutheran Church. The estate process has been finalized and we have received a total of $121,372.19. Bonnie was very committed to the front parcel and our future sanctuary. These funds will be used to pay off the front parcel loan with LCEF and to start the dedicated account for the new sanctuary. Ladies of Trinity: LWML FL-GA Fall Retreat is Sept. 25-27 (Fri- Sun) at Sirata Beach Resort in St Pete Beach. Time to recharge, make new friends, and hear motivating speakers. See the registration form on the bulletin board or contact Charmaine Dupps to join the group from Trinity and share expenses. Faith-based Champions for Children: Imagine being taken away from your home, not knowing where you will go, leaving behind your favorite things. Now, imagine this through the eyes of a child. There are more than 3,500 children in Pinellas and Pasco counties taken from their homes due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. Many of these children will need to live in a temporary foster home, but the growing need for permanent placement in a loving home is the ultimate goal. Trinity Lutheran is partnering with Eckerd Community Alternatives and other churches in Pasco County in the FAITH BASED CHAMPIONS FOR CHILDREN initiative. Over the course of 90 days, we as a congregation will be praying for the successful search and placement of an adoptive family for a child assigned to us. Please see the picture of Chrislyn located in the entryway, and feel free to take a copy of her bio to help in guiding our prayers over the next 3 months in finding a good home for this child. LOOKING FORWARD TO SUNDAY MORNING You can prepare for Sunday morning worship by listening to weekly teachings that cover the appointed Scripture readings. Dr. Carl Fickenscher leads us through the three-year lectionary. Pastor David Petersen leads us through the one-year lectionary. You can listen on-demand at www.issuesetc.org. 9
