PAGE 2 FROM THE PASTOR ASTOR: My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, It is my fervent prayer that the blessings of the Christ Child may fill the hearts of each of our families and that His Divine Presence may be the center of family life. Being aware of Christ as the center of our lives and living in that Divine Presence will bring a great sense of peace, hope, and joy. It will also lead us to living the life of holiness and charity to which we are called. I would like to share with you the prayer of Pope John Paul II as he concluded his Apostolic Exhortation, Familiaris Consortio: May the Virgin Mary, who is the Mother of the Church, also be the Mother of "the Church of the home." Thanks to her motherly aid, may each Christian family really become a "little Church" in which the mystery of the Church of Christ is mirrored and given new life. May she, the Handmaid of the Lord, be an example of humble and generous acceptance of the will of God. May she, the Sorrowful Mother at the foot of the Cross, comfort the sufferings and dry the tears of those in distress because of the difficulties of their families. May Christ the Lord, the Universal King, the King of Families, be present in every Christian home as He was at Cana, bestowing light, joy, serenity and strength I beg of Him that every family may generously make its own contribution to the coming of His Kingdom in the world - "a kingdom of truth and life, a kingdom of holiness and grace, a kingdom of justice, love, and peace," towards which history is journeying. Please be assured of my continued prayers for each and every one of you. May God s blessings be yours this Christmas. PAGE 4 My dearly beloved friends in Christ, Brother Daniel was born and raised in Mayfield Heights, OH. He attended RCIA and was baptized, confirmed, and received first Holy Eucharist (received into the Church) on Easter Vigil 1994 at Saint Gregory the Great Church, South Euclid, OH. As a parishioner he was involved in many ministries including Holy Name Society, Catholic Men s Fellowship, a Lector, an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, a volunteer at the pizza-sausage booth during the annual Festivals, and a daily communicant of the 6:45 a.m. Mass. In 2003 he began to experience a call to the priesthood and religious life. Following two years of discernment in August 2006 he left his career, his possessions, friends, and family and entered the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy (Mercedarian Friars). www.orderofmercy.com.. He is presently in his third year of simple profession (The Church received his first vows of chastity, poverty, obedience, and redemption in July 2008) - the vowed religious life. He is in his fourth year of formation, studying for the holy priesthood (Second Theology), at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia, PA. He currently resides at The Monastery of Our Lady of Mercy which is the House of Studies for his religious community. This past summer Brother was happy to spend his annual three week vacation at his new home in South Euclid: Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of my wonderful Sacred Heart of Jesus family a most blessed Christmas season and the happiest of New Years. I offer this brief reflection: Make my heart like unto thine. Our Lord gave us the most precious and incredible gift of all: the gift of Himself in the Incarnation. But He didn t just give it to us and leave. No, as Catholics we believe that when our Lord, over 2,000 years ago was born as the Word made flesh, that He became flesh then, now and for all time. Jesus: who is both man and yet God at the same time. How awesome that is! He enables the human and the divine to return to a right relationship. An offer extended to men and women of every age by establishing the Church and the Sacraments. The Body of Christ that exists both spiritually and physically now in heaven and on earth. And the most amazing thing of all, He gave us and continues to give us the gift of His Most precious body, blood soul and divinity: the Eucharist. We receive our Lord not only spiritually, but physically as well. That way we might be transformed into Him, His Sonship, and participate in that blessed life of the Most Holy Trinity today and forever. It sounds incredible, but it is the faith that we believe. God who loves us so much that He sends His only begotten son so that we might have life and have it abundantly. Now we can truly love with the very love of God. He takes away our stony hearts and gives us His Most Sacred Heart. It is His Heart given to beat within our breast, so that we might become His hands, and feet in the world today. This is God s call to us: to be Jesus in the world today, to share in doing His work to change the world and claim it for Christ, loving others with His heart, and to give all time His perfect love forever. On behalf of my religious family, and myself be assured of our kindest affection and prayers to you and all your loved ones. Thank you all for your continued prayers and support. Be assured of mine, and together with Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, may we rejoice and celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God love and God bless one and all. In Christ, through Mary, Brother Daniel Bowen, O.de M.

DECEMBER 26, 2010 PAGE 5 Matthew Weaver, the son of Tim and Sandy Weaver, was raised in Lake County, attended NDCL where he was very involved in their sports program, and graduated from Ohio Dominican in Columbus, Ohio. Since joining our parish, Matthew has been very involved in the Spiritual and Liturgical Life of the Parish. He has assisted as a Master of Ceremonies for many of our Masses and for our Corpus Christi Processions. He has also been very helpful in the training and guiding of our Altar Servers. Following graduation this year, Matthew responded to God's call to the priesthood and began his preparations with the Institute of Christ the King; a society of Apostolic Life of Pontifical Right whose goal is the honor of God and the sanctification of priests in the service of the Church and souls. Their specific aim is missionary: to spread the reign of our Lord Jesus Christ in all the spheres of human life. www.institute-christ-king.org Dear Faithful of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, May the peace of the Holy Infant King and the love of His little Royal Heart greet you all on this most blessed day within the Octave of His Nativity! Each year through the Sacred Liturgy, holy Mother Church renews in her children the joy and mystery of the virgin birth of our sovereign Lord, offering us the warmth of His divine charity amidst the chills of winter. What is this offering other than His Sacred Heart in the most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar that glorious furnace of infinite love under the humble veil of bread. Be not fooled by appearances; for, just as the Magi looked upon God the Son veiled in human flesh and adored Him, so too are we offered that same chance to adore the one true God veiled in the holy Eucharist. Venite adoremus! Assuring each of you of my continued prayers this Christmas, while confiding your intentions and families to the Sacred Heart of our Divine Infant King, I remain, Very truly yours, Matthew Weaver A N A NEW YEAR EAR S RESOLUTION ESOLUTION S SPEND TIME WITH THE LORD The New Year brings new hopes and new dreams. We create resolutions to better ourselves. When Jesus called His apostles from their work to follow Him, He knew they heard Him, not only with their ears, but within their hearts. They heard Him. They listened to Him. They followed Him. They loved Him. Jesus calls us today and everyday, Come to Me! He wants us to draw closer to Him. Hear Him within your heart. He has so much He wants to share with you. For a New Year s resolution, consider becoming an Adorer of the Blessed Sacrament in Perpetual Adoration. Find one hour a week when you can share in His abiding love. Contact Kay Sutula at 216-849-1871 or sacredheartadoration@yahoo.com

He feared Jesus would replace him and he would lose control. In families fear appears when we are threatened by what is out of our control. We fret but it does no good.
