President s Message Fellow Members, The men and women of our profession in recent years appear to be under sustained assault, no thanks to a tenor perpetuated by community antagonizers nationwide. Law enforcement has always had its risks and present day is no different. It goes without saying that Blue Knights are standing with Blue Lives. While you are traveling about in or out of state, remember those skills you acquired on the job, keep your head on a swivel. If you're wearing something that identifies you as law enforcement, you could be a target. If you're in the same public place as an active member of law enforcement, remember they could be a target. Be situationally aware. You might be that officer's backup, especially if you are an everyday carrier. Without being melodramatic, we are living in uncommon times. That's putting it lightly. Blue Lives Matter. Be safe! (AKA Sweet William) Monthly Meetings: Second Wednesday of each month, 7:00 pm, at the Flagler County Emergency Operations Center, 1769 E. Chaplain s Corner Email: karlw@grunewald.net Good day to all BK brothers and sisters. This has been a busy month with folks being on the sick list and the loss of Doug Brown's wife Patricia. Five of us rode down to pay our respects at the wake. Doug and family were very appreciative. Chuck Steele underwent some minor surgery and is doing well, at this time he is up north again helping his daughter. Mike Pippio's wife Valerie was on the sick list. Continue to keep them and others that I may have missed in your good wishes and prayers. Flowers and fruit were sent as needed. This was a busy month as the Pope visited, "The People's Pope" many of us spent time with our eyes on TV as he visited and spoke to millions of people. Santa Maria del Mar Catholic church hosted the Lutheran Bishop of Florida and the Bahamas. It was a gift to have him speak at all the masses on Saturday and Sunday talking about unity in our faiths. Happy Yom Kippur to all our Jewish brothers and sisters, (Day of Atonement) Page 2

Tony Dolce Members, do you need any of the following items for the season change? INVENTORY SHIRTS Black short sleeve Ride Shirts, sizes Sm., Lg., XL, 2XL A Ride for a Fellow Knight It was a nice ride to Daytona Beach with the other bikers, as we were able to stay together all the way to the funeral home. I didn't know Patricia Brown nor did I know Doug very well. I asked myself why was I going to a wake when I hardly knew them? I only knew that Doug retired from the NYPD and served on the scholarship committee. I was going because I thought it was it was the right thing to do, show support for Doug. He had just lost his wife. When we arrived, there were a small number of people there and some nice words were being said on behalf of Doug's wife, Patricia. I felt a little awkward, but Doug certainly could use the encouragement. As I approached him, I could see a slight smile and as I embraced him, I could feel his appreciation. For that moment, I think he felt important being with his fellow Blue Page 3
Knights at his side. There was a glow coming from him, saying 'Thank You.' He seemed so grateful and pleased with our presence. I felt that we had elevated him from his sadness. The support and respect we were showing would go a long way to help him with his healing. I am sure his family must have felt elated by our show of support and respect for Doug. It was a good way to end the noisy activity of the day. Tony Last Month s Rides / Events September 12, 2015 Our Picnic - Page 4
