----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- Order of Worship September 3, 2017 Reflection This is why the delivering grace of Christ is essential. You can escape many things, but you cannot escape your heart. In gorgeous mercy, God delivers you from you. -Paul Tripp Prelude As worship begins, please silence your electronic devices. Call To Worship Revelation 15 & 19 Leader: Great and marvelous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty! All: Just and true are your ways, King of the Nations! Leader: Who will not fear you, Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All: All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed. Leader: Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns! All: Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! 1

Song Come Ye Sinners Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched, Weak and wounded, sick and sore; Jesus, ready, stands to save you, Full of pity, joined with power. He is able, He is able; He is willing; doubt no more. Come ye needy, come, and welcome, God's free bounty glorify; True belief and true repentance, Every grace that brings you nigh. Without money, without money Come to Jesus Christ and buy. Come, ye weary, heavy laden, Bruised and broken by the fall; If you tarry 'til you're better, You will never come at all. Not the righteous, not the righteous; Sinners Jesus came to call. Let not conscience make you linger, Nor of fitness fondly dream; All the fitness He requireth Is to feel your need of Him. This He gives you, this He gives you, 'Tis the Spirit's rising beam. 2

Lo! The Incarnate God, ascended; Pleads the merit of His blood. Venture on Him; venture wholly, Let no other trust intrude. None but Jesus, none but Jesus Can do helpless sinners good. Prayer of Adoration Our Lord, our Rock and our Redeemer, we gather this morning to worship you. We do not do so in an attempt to earn your favor or court your blessings, but, rather, we seek you because you first sought us. Accept our prayers this morning in speech and in song and receive the praises that we offer. Amen. Affirmation of Faith The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he shall 3

come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Doxology Lasst Uns Erfreuen Let all things their creator bless, And worship him with humbleness! O praise him, Alleluia! Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, And praise the Spirit, Three in One, O praise him! O praise him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Prayer of Confession Most holy and merciful Father, we confess to you and to one another that we have sinned against you by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength. We have not fully loved our neighbors as ourselves. We have not always had in us the mind of Christ. You alone know how often we have grieved you by wasting your gifts, by wandering from your ways, by forgetting your love. Forgive us, we pray, most merciful Father, and free us from our sin. Renew us in the grace and strength of your 4

Holy Spirit, for the sake of Jesus Christ your Son, our Savior. Amen. Private Confession Song Satisfied All my life long I had panted For a drink from some cool spring That I hoped would quench the burning Of the thirst I felt within. Chorus: Hallelujah! He has found me, The One my soul so long has craved! Jesus satisfies all my longings Through His blood I now am saved. Feeding on the filth around me Til my strength was almost gone. Longed my soul for something better Only still to hunger on. (Chorus) Poor I was and sought for riches Something that would satisfy. But the dust I gathered 'round me Only mocked my soul's sad cry. (Chorus) 5

Well of water ever springing Bread of life so rich and free. Untold wealth that never faileth, My Redeemer is to me. (Chorus) Words of Pardon and Comfort Matthew 11:28-29 Jesus said, Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Song Great is Thy Faithfulness Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father; there is no shadow of turning with thee; thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not; as thou hast been thou forever wilt be. Refrain: Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me! Summer and winter and springtime and harvest 6

sun, moon, and stars in their courses above join with all nature in manifold witness to thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love. (Refrain) Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide, strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside! (Refrain) (Children through Kindergarten are dismissed for Children s Church; they will return for Communion.) Prayer of Intercession (Concluded by the Lord s Prayer) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. High Desert Highlights See Announcements on page 15 Offertory Scripture Revelation 2:1-7 7

1 To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: The words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands. 2 I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. 3 I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name's sake, and you have not grown weary. 4 But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. 6 Yet this you have: you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. 7 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God. Sermon: Rose Back to Basics First in the Series, The Main Thing Rev. Dan Song: Knowing You All I once held dear, built my life upon, 8

All this world reveres, and wars to own, All I once thought gain I have counted loss; Spent and worthless now, compared to this. Chorus: Knowing You, Jesus, knowing You, There is no greater thing. You're my all, You're my rest, You're my joy, my righteousness, And I love You, Lord. Now my heart's desire is to know You more, To be found in You, and known as Yours, To possess by faith what I could not earn; All surpassing gift of righteousness. (Chorus) Oh to know the pow'r of Your risen life, And to know You in Your sufferings, To become like You, in Your death my Lord; So with You to live, and never die. (Chorus) Celebration of the Lord s Supper This is a time for all people to seek the Lord. For Christians, the Lord s Supper (also called Communion or The Eucharist, which means thanksgiving ) is a time to meet with their Savior by faith, to be strengthened and renewed by Him as they eat the bread and drink the elements. All baptized Christians 9

who trust in Christ alone as their Savior and Lord, belong to a church that embraces the gospel, are at peace with their fellow neighbor, and seek strength and grace to live more faithfully to Christ, are invited to participate. If you are not a Christian, or if you are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer (see Prayers on page 14) and to consider more deeply your relationship to Jesus Christ. We also ask that children who have not yet publicly professed their faith in Christ refrain from partaking until doing so. Both wine (red) and grape juice (white) are offered in each serving tray. Words of Institution Memorial Acclamation Minister: Therefore we proclaim the mystery of the faith: All: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again! Minister: Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. All: Therefore let us keep the feast. Minister: The gifts of God for the people of God. Communion Song There is a Fountain There is a fountain filled with blood, Drawn from Immanuel s veins; 10

And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, Lose all their guilty stains: Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains; And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, Lose all their guilty stains. The dying thief rejoiced to see That fountain in his day; And there have I, as vile as he, Washed all my sins away: Washed all my sins away, washed all my sins away; And there have I, as vile as he, Washed all my sins away. E er since by faith I saw the stream Your flowing wounds supply, Redeeming love has been my theme, And shall be till I die: And shall be till I die, and shall be till I die; Redeeming love has been my theme, And shall be till I die. Dear dying Lamb, your precious blood Shall never lose its pow r, Till all the ransomed church of God Be saved to sin no more: Be saved to sin no more, be saved to sin no more; Till all the ransomed church of God Be saved to sin no more. 11

Prayer of Thanksgiving Lord God, in deep gratitude for this moment, this meal, these people, we give ourselves to you. Take us out to live as changed people because we have shared the living bread and cannot remain the same. Ask much of us, expect much from us, enable much by us, encourage many through us. So Lord, may we live to your glory, both as inhabitants of earth and citizens of the commonwealth of heaven. Amen. Song All Glory Be to Christ Should nothing of our efforts stand, No legacy survive; Unless the Lord does raise the house, In vain its builders strive. To you who boast tomorrow's gain, Tell me what is your life? A mist that vanishes at dawn; All glory be to Christ! 12

Benediction Chorus: All glory be to Christ our king! All glory be to Christ! His rule and reign we ll ever sing, All glory be to Christ! His will be done, His kingdom come On earth as is above, Who is Himself our daily bread; Praise Him, the Lord of love. Let living water satisfy The thirsty without price; We'll take a cup of kindness yet; All glory be to Christ! (Chorus) When on the day the great I Am, The faithful and the true, The Lamb who was for sinners slain Is making all things new. Behold, our God shall live with us And be our steadfast light. And we shall e re His people be; All glory be to Christ! (Chorus) 13

Postlude All songs used by permission. CCLI License #11101021 Prayers Prayer for Those Searching for Truth: Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open me to the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life you promise. Amen. Prayer of Belief: Lord Jesus Christ, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever dared admit, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt on the cross, 14

taking what I deserved in order to offer me complete forgiveness. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Amen. Prayer for Those Struggling with Sin: Lord Jesus, grant that I may see in you the fulfillment of all my need, and may turn from every false satisfaction to feed on you, the true and living bread. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely, and run with perseverance the race set before me, looking to you, the Pioneer and Perfecter of my faith. Amen. Prayer of Commitment: Lord Jesus, you have called us to follow you in baptism and in a life of committed discipleship in your church. Grant that I may take the necessary steps to be one with your people, and live in the fullness of your Spirit. Amen. Announcements We will gather for worship next Sunday at 10 am at DRMS.
