THE WORSHIP OF GOD ON EASTER DAY The only thing we cannot do is hold onto Jesus. He has asked us please not to do that, because he knows that all in all we would rather keep him with us where we are than to let him take us where he is going. Better we should let him hold on to us, perhaps. ~Barbara Brown Taylor, Home by Another Way THE PRELUDE Suite of Baroque Dances Johann Christoph Pezel Intrade Allemande Gigue Bal Courante THE EASTER GOSPEL John 20:1-10 INTROIT Christ Our Passover Will C. Macfarlane Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us: therefore let us keep the feast. Not with old leav'n, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. Christ is risen, is risen from the dead: and become the first fruits of them that slept. For since by one, for since by one came death: by one came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam, for as in Eve all die: even so in Christ shall all be made alive. Glory to the Creator, and to the Christ, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: world without end. Amen. THE CALL TO WORSHIP One: We come to speak, for there is good news that must be spoken. Many: We come to sing, for all of creation is bursting with great, glad alleluias. One: We come in hope that we will hear, like Mary, the sound of our name, Many: That we may be met by love s power risen, bringing us hope and light and life. One: Christ is risen! Many: Christ is risen! One: Christ is risen! All: Christ is risen indeed! * PROCESSIONAL HYMN Christ the Lord is Risen Today see insert * INVOCATION AND PASSING THE PEACE One: May the peace of the Risen Christ be with you! All: And also with you! One: Please extend this gesture of peace with those nearest you. * SONG OF PRAISE Celtic Alleluia

ANTHEM Lift Your Voice Rejoicing, Mary Roland E. Martin Lift your voice rejoicing, Mary, Christ has risen from the tomb; on the cross a suffering victim, now as victor he is come. Whom your tears in death were mourning, welcome with your smiles returning. Let your alleluias rise! Raise your weary eyelids, Mary, see him living evermore; see his countenance how gracious, see the wounds for you he bore. All the glory of the morning pales before those wounds redeeming. Let your alleluias rise! Life is yours forever, Mary, for your light is come once more and the strength of death is broken; now your songs of joy outpour. Ended now the night of sorrow, love has brought the blessed morrow. Let your alleluias rise! As followers of Jesus, we embrace spiritual growth, mutual care and service, assured that as we serve our neighbors, we joyfully serve God. Intentionally inclusive, we welcome people of all races, sexual orientations, and cultures, respecting diverse religious experiences within the church and beyond. We invite others to join us in our commitment to peace, justice, and care for creation. In a spirit of Christian love, we welcome you. Guests, welcome! Please provide your contact information in the Friendship Register so we can get to know you better. We are so glad you have chosen to worship with us today. About today s cover art: William Butler, Celebration of Life, 2015, 90 cm x 120 cm, acrylic on canvas. Of his painting, William writes: Like the sunrise of each new day, the promises of God are a constant reminder of God s great love and renewing grace. Celebration of Life is a visual testimony in paint that expressionistically illustrates the redemptive relationship between the Heavens and the Earth that is illuminated by the Son and the Cross. Hearing assistance devices and children s worship bags are available in the Narthex before service begins.
