A Message from Our Pastor Dear People of St. Patrick Parish: Monday, August 15 is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven. In the United States of America, it is not a Holy Day of Obligation this year because the Feast falls on a Monday. We will have Masses at 7:30am, 9:00am and 7:30pnm, here at St. Patrick Parish Church. Please make an effort to come to Mass and give praise to God by also honoring Mary, our Spiritual Mother. Because Mary was born without original sin, she was taken body and soul directly into heaven. As we go to Mass on Monday, we have many things to pray for in our world. As a loving Mother, Mary does intercede to her son, Jesus, for our world. There is a joy that comes to us as we pray to Mary for peace in our lives, in our world and for the future of our world. Right now, we need all the help we can get. We cannot give up on the idea that one day all people will try to live the message of, love God and your neighbor. How appropriate that the Olympics are going on as we hear the readings from the bible today from Hebrews, Persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus. Do we want a gold medal that will carry us into heaven? The athletes at the Olympics got there by hard work, training, making personal sacrifices and believing in their goal and mission. Living out our Catholic faith and keeping focused upon the finish live can bring us gold. Next Wednesday, August 17, St. Patrick Catholic School, Infant Care, Transitional Kindergarten, and Pre-school, will welcome students and teachers to the academic year of 2016-2017. We recall that in September of 1956, St. Patrick School opened its doors for the first time to serve the 550 Catholic families of Rodeo. Please pray for our Catholic school as we carry on the traditions of Catholic School education. God Bless, Fr. Larry Young Pastor
News ~ Information ~ Events Jubilee Year of Mercy August 14, 2016 Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time This Jubilee Year of Mercy bids us to share our own experience of Jesus mercy with those on what Pope Francis calls the peripheries people who feel marginalized, even unwelcome inviting them to come home. But with all this mercy, why today s mayhem? Do you think I have come to establish peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division (Luke 12:51). Jesus breaks down those breakups in painful detail parents, children, even in-laws. Against appears eight times in five verses. Jeremiah faced death for bearing witness (Jeremiah 38:4). Can t we bear at least a small share of the sometimes merciless cost of sharing mercy? The Letter to the Hebrews warns us, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and so great a cloud of witnesses, lest we grow weary and lose heart as we run the race that lies before us (Hebrews 12:1 3). After all, for the sake of the joy that lay before him, Jesus endured the cross (12:2). Can t we endure our small crosses for the sake of sharing mercy? Peter Scagnelli, Copyright J. S.
