Locust Presbyterian Church 11:00 am Worship Prelude, Welcome, Announcements Honoring Birthday & Anniversary Children s Message: *Call to Worship: (from Psalm 146) One: Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever; Many: who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. One: The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. Many: The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. One: The Lord watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. All: The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord! *Ingathering Song: What a Friend We Have in Jesus What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer! O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer! Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged, take it to the Lord I prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness, Take it to the Lord in prayer. Scripture: Luke 4:14-21 rning Sermon Prayers Title: The Justice of the Kingdom Sermon Series: "And the Kingdom of God is like..." *Affirmation of Faith: (from A Brief Statement of Faith) We trust in Jesus Christ, Fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal. *Song of the Day: Walking in Sunlight Walking in sunlight all of my journey, Over the mountains, through the deep vale; Jesus has said, I ll never forsake thee Promise divine that never can fail. Refrain Heavenly sunlight, heavenly sunlight, Flooding my soul with glory divine; Hallelujah! I am rejoicing, Singing His praises, Jesus is mine. Shadows around me, shadows above me Never conceal my Savior and Guide; He is the Light in Him is no darkness; Ever I m walking close to His side. In the bright sunlight, ever rejoicing, Pressing my way to mansions above; Singing His praises gladly I m walking, Walking in sunlight, sunlight of love. *Benediction: Rev. Evan Amo *Sending Song: Blest Be the Tie That Binds Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love; The fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above. Before our Father s throne we pour our ardent prayers; Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one, our comforts and our cares. MUSIC NOTES The choir usually takes off for Outdoor Worship, but last spring, we had the men sing a song during the offering. So, today, the choir will share a song from this summer s Vacation Bible School. Light of the World is a fun song that reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world. Seems kindof appropriate for a worship service that is outside in the bright sunlight. The light will continue as we sing Heavenly Sunlight as our congregational song today. REMEMBER- each person is to complete a survey!!! CHOIR NEWS The adult choir began regular Wednesday night practices this past week. We began on the Christmas Cantata and went through several other songs in preparation for worship over the next several weeks. New members are always welcome to come have some fun as we sing praises! Practice is Wednesday at 7:00 PM. Call to Confession: Corporate Prayer of Confession: One: The Kingdom of God has come near, repent, and believe the good news. Many: Lord, forgive us, we have failed to trust that you are near to us. One: The Kingdom of God has come near, repent, and rejoice in the good news. Many: Forgive us, for we exchange joy that comes from you for shallow joy. One: The Kingdom of God has come near, repent, and seek his justice and righteousness. Many: Forgive us, for we are complicit in a world filled with injustice, violence, greed, and inequality. One: The Kingdom of God has come near, repent, and be filled with the love of God. Many: Forgive us, for we neglect your love that claims all people, and we harbor judgment, resentment, and impatience. All: In repentance, we turn to you, O God, to be renewed again in the good news of your love, and to join ourselves to the life of your Kingdom. Amen. Assurance of Pardon: *Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. World without end, Amen, Amen.
