A well-known preacher once said that any preacher with good sense would call in sick on Trinity Sunday. Unfortunately, With Fr. Scott Winchel taking care of our Parish Family Retreat up in Helen, Ga., I didn t have the option of calling in sick. But I did have the option of scheduling the deacons to preach this weekend. I can be a very cruel pastor at times but I am sincerely grateful that our deacons were open to taking on this difficult assignment. The Trinity is the central mystery of the Christian faith; it is the mystery that articulates and illuminates the very nature of God. Libraries have been written; wars have been fought; councils have been convened and yet, we still struggle to understand it. At the very heart of our Christian faith is the belief that God is One and at the same time Three. It sounds impossible. Others think that Christians are foolish for believing such nonsense. Nevertheless, because Jesus teaches us about the Father and about the Holy Spirit, we believe. And I think that struggle is so important. I have no intention of unraveling the mystery here in this space today. But I would urge all of you everyday to wrestle a little with the mystery of who God is for you. St. Jerome said, The true profession of the mystery of the Trinity is to own that we do not comprehend it. So, it is important to come to any mystery of faith with great humility. There is so much about God that our limited minds are never going to understand. But there is so much about God that we can understand and if we are going to be strong in our faith than we must be seekers; we must constantly be asking ourselves the important questions. What is my relationship to God? How does this relationship impact on the way I live my life? We are constantly told that God loves us and that he forgives us. How do I recognize this love? How do I respond to it? How does it affect my relations with people? If we are to be seekers, then eventually we come to humbly realize that the Trinity is so much more than a mysterious doctrine; it is an experience of a God who loves us totally and completely. A poet expressed this experience of who God is; this experience of the Trinity in the following words: Tell me what you have seen of life, of goodness, of wonder. Tell me about the most beautiful sunrise you ve ever seen, the most beautiful flower you ve ever touched, the most delicious berry you ve ever tasted, the most magnificent animal of the forest, sky or sea. Tell me about the mysteries of the atom and the cosmos. Tell me about the possibilities of science and medicine. Tell me about the miracle of the birth of your child. And I will tell you about the Father. Tell me what you know about right and wrong, about love, compassion and mercy, about peace and justice and integrity. Tell me what you believe, what you value and treasure most in your heart. Tell me about your hopes in the midst of despair, about your ability to forgive and be forgiven. Tell me what you seek on your journey through this life. Tell me about the crosses you have had to bear and the strength and grace you found to bear them. Tell me about the agonies of your good Fridays and the miracles of your Easter Sundays. And I will tell you about the Son. Tell me what you really feel passionate about, Tell me about those you most love -- love in the deepest, most secret part of your heart. Tell me what you are willing to die for -- and what you are hoping to live for. And I will tell you about the Spirit. And so as we celebrate Holy Trinity Sunday, I would urge all of you to be seekers. As you seek to know your faith more deeply, pray intensely every day. Remain open to the Mystery of who God is for you so that the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit will be with you always. This weekend we pause as Americans to remember the many brave men and women who have given their lives throughout the history of our country to protect us from danger and harm. I would invite you to attend the 9:15 am Mass on Monday as a special way of honoring them. It is always a moving liturgy. Finally, one of my young friends asked me recently, Fr. Jerry, are we going to parade with Jesus again this year? It took me a minute to figure out that he was asking about the Corpus Christi Procession. And yes, the annual Deanery Corpus Christi Procession will be next Sunday at St. Teresa of Avila Parish. You can find details in The Around The Deanery section of this bulletin. It is always a great Catholic Family event.

So why not talk to the Holy Spirit about your stewardship? Are you sharing your time and talent with God and others? Do you give a fair amount of your treasure to do the work of the Lord? Can you hear the Holy Spirit s answer to those questions in your heart now? What more is He calling you to do?

Congratulations! Thank You!!! I would like to thank everyone for their gracious hospitality as I have served here for the past two years. The time has flown by and I feel that I have only begun to get to know a rather small percentage of the parish family. In addition, I would like to thank everyone who made the cookout last Saturday possible and to thank all who were able to come. I m also very thankful for all the gifts and cards that you have given me as I prepare for my new assignment. Your thoughtfulness means a lot to me and I greatly appreciate it. Know that you will continue to be in my prayers and I look forward to seeing you again during the weekend of June 8 th and 9 th. God bless and keep you always. In Christ, Fr.
