St Gerard S CatHOLIC Primary School 71 Gladstone Rd, North Dandenong 3175 Ph: 9791 7553 www.sgdandenongnth.catholic.edu.au NEWSLETTER #12 11 May 2018 DATES TO REMEMBER MOTHERS DAY Sunday, 13 May Family Week Family Week Breakfast Friday, 18 May THE ASCENSION We celebrate the Ascension of the Lord in a solemn way this Sunday, and also when we pray the second glorious mystery of the Rosary. This is to remind us that the ascended Lord has entrusted each of us with a mission in life. Gala Day 1 Friday, 18 April NAPLAN Yrs 3 & 5 14, 15 & 15 May HEADLICE There has been a case of head lice within the school. Please check your child s hair thoroughly and treat if necessary. Keep up-to-date with what s happening at St Gerard s by liking our Facebook page. Search, St Gerard s Primary School He invites you and me to fill in for him here and now. He seems to be absent, even though we know he is near at hand. It is in him that we live and move and have our being. But we cannot see him, hear him or touch him. We can see, hear and touch each other, and others can see, hear and touch us. We can experience the Lord in one another. May others also experience the Lord in us. Something to ponder (from Pope Francis apostolic exhortation Gaudete et Exsultate). This holiness to which the Lord calls you will grow through small gestures. (16) God, ever present Companion of our hearts, Your powerful love raised Jesus from the grave and brought him into glory at your right hand. Send us forth in his name to bring your peaceful presence into every situation of our day. We ask this prayer through Jesus Christ, the firstborn from the dead, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.
PRINCIPAL Dear Parent, To all the Mums, I wish you a happy Mother s Day this Sunday, you deserve to be pampered and have a day off. Enjoy this family day and celebrate family life. Thank you to the parents that organised and ran the Mother s Day Stall and arranged the Mother s Day Raffle. The stall had fantastic gifts and the raffle had great prizes and was most exciting for the children. Next week is NAPLAN for the Years 3 and 5. It s important that all children arrive on time each morning so the school routine is not interrupted by children arriving late. Your support will be greatly appreciated by the staff and the students. A reminder to please use the designated pathways when walking into the carpark after school. Walking children in a predicable way is important to help ensure safety. The broken asphalt in the drive through is going to be repaired, we have received quotes and have engaged a contractor, just waiting on him now to complete the work. We are also getting quotes for a new gate, we have a few quotes and are hoping for a some more and ideally would like to engage someone next week. Please keep monitoring your child s on-line activity and please make sure they do not have a device in their rooms, particularly when they go to bed. A study of 8 to 17 year old children has revealed some alarming information. The study identified the top 5 negative experiences of young people: being contacted by strangers/someone they did not know, 25% being left out by others, 21% having mean things said about them/called names, 19% receiving repeated unwanted online messages from someone, 13% having lies/rumours spread about them, 13%. We need to work together to keep a close eye on our children so they can stay safe and healthy. Have a great weekend and God Bless, Chris.
