Reverend s Corner Epiphany What does this mean well we touched on this last week during the message as it is the manifestation celebration of the revelation of Jesus Christ God in His Son. To put this in some context, Epiphany, or Three Kings Day is the 12 th day of Christmas (January 6 th ) which marks the end of the festive season for many Christians. Traditionally this is when the British would remove their Christmas decorations as tradition would have it, if not removed they had to stay up all year long to avoid misfortune (oops good thing I am not British). Up to the 19 th Century, Epiphany was more important than Christmas Day as it was the arrival celebration of the Three Kings, Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar (three wise men) visit to the baby Jesus. Melchior is said to have represented Europe, Caspar represented Arabia and Balthazar is said to have represented Africa. Epiphany has been celebrated in the West since the 4 th century. The six Sunday s that follow Epiphany are known as the time of manifestation extending from January 6 th through to Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. The last Sunday of Epiphany is known as Transfiguration Sunday. Over the next five weeks the Gospel message will take us through Jesus choosing Disciples, the arrest of John the Baptist, Jesus performing miracles and ending with a Leper being healed solely because of his faith in Jesus Christ. Let us as we journey these next weeks be in such a place as the Leper, solely by ones faith be healed. Rev. Steven 3
