We had over 60 students participating this year in three locations. A great BIG thanks to all the people who helped put this program together in our AFC. Thank you, Gina, Charlotte and JoAnn, for helping to organize people and events. Thanks to Mary, Cathy, David, Caroline and Ann from Appleton. The Totus Tuus team in Appleton was able to work the Micronesian students to help prepare them for the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Thanks to Morgan, Rosemary, and anyone else who helped with the day and evening programs, as well as those that housed and provided meals for the Totus Tuus teams. Thank you to Father Bill for saying Mass all week. THANKS to the Knights of Columbus, St. Bridget Altar and Rosary, St. Francis Family Groups, Sacred Heart CCW, Catholic United Financial, Stacy, Judy, Samantha Rosie C and Leslie for making generous donations for food and snacks. This event was made possible by all of you. On Tuesday, July 3, a large area of the Diocese of New Ulm was subject to flooding, flood damages and a few home and apartment evacuations. Parishes and communities in Lyon, Lincoln and Redwood Counties and particularly the communities of Marshall, Redwood Falls, Tracy, Wabasso, Walnut Grove were impacted by 7 to as much as 11 inches of rain on soils that were already saturated. The Diocese has applied to Catholic Charities USA for a $10,000 emergency assistance grant to help low-income families displaced from their homes by these heavy rains. Similarly, Bishop LeVoir has asked that parishes in the diocese take up a second collection for those people without resources to immediately recover from being displaced by this July 3 flooding. Donations can also be made via a credit card accessing Catholic Charities on the diocesan webpage. The second collection will be taken up next weekend, July 21/22. The second week of the Kerkhoven Farmers' Market will be Tuesday, July 17, from 2:30-6pm at the Pillsbury Park Shelter. Scott Collins from the Swift County Environmental Services office will give a recycling update around 3:15-3:30. The Town and Country Royalty will be serving food and fellowship for a free will donation. Gardens are producing more and more. Check out all of the vendors. See you at the market. Enjoy New Orleans Dixieland Jazz Music by a group that takes their name from Minnesota s Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. The FLY (Food for our Learning Youth) Backpack Food Program in the Appleton-Milan Elementary School will be holding a BBQ fundraiser. They will be serving BBQ s, beans, chips, cookie, and a beverage from 5:00 to 7:00 pm for $6.00. The Knights of Columbus will be selling brats on Crazy Days on Thursday, July 19 from 10 am 6 pm at Super Value in Benson. Everyone welcome! Knights of Columbus family picnic will be Tuesday, July 24 th at the St. Francis Church Gathering Space. Mass will be held at 6:00 pm with the picnic to follow.
