Project overview The Sri Lanka Road Trip is an Eco-Tourism travel project, which means it is as environmentally friendly as possible. As part of this unique experience you will visit various distinctive regions and explore their exotic, unique and exciting culture. The road trip includes the world-famous Dutch Fort in Galle, the Royal Botanical Gardens, a Tea Factory, the Bahirawakanda Buddha statue and many sites of historical importance. Enjoy a natural Ayurvedic treatment, a boat trip along the Madu Ganga, and a visit to the famous 14th century Three Temples with their intricate hand-carvings. The first week you will be introduced to Sri Lanka where you will witness cultural dance and music performances by artists, visit famous Buddhist and Hindu temples, learn Sri Lankan culinary, and get to know the culture and traditions of the country. On your second week you will climb the Ambuluwawa peak, visit the Lion s rock where you can see the ruins of an old castle built on a rock and visit the UNESCO World heritage site Polonnaruwa. You will also visit a few ancient temples in Kandy to and ride on a train enjoying the view of cloudshrouded hills. On the third week, we take you to the south eastern part of Sri Lanka for five days. Here you ll visit ancient temples by tuk tuk or vans, relax on pristine beaches, go on a river safari, work at our very own turtle conservation project, visit Galle, and see a jewellery mine. Project itinerary Monday to Friday Week 1 What's included: - 24/7 support in case of emergencies - Accommodation - Airport Pick up - English speaking coordinator - Meals - Orientation What's not included: - Airport drop off - Flights - Travel insurance - Vaccination - Visa On Monday you ll receive your Programme Introduction where you ll learn of the language and culture of the area, as well as embark on a Kandy City tour. Tuesday will be spent at the Spice and Ayurvedic Garden, tea factory and the Gem Museum. There will also be a boat ride at the Kandy Lake. On Wednesday you ll receive a Sri Lankan cooking or Self-Defence lesson and take part in a meditation session. Thursday is for the Temple of the Tooth. You ll also see a British cemetery and visit Batik and wood factories. Friday you ll see the Bahirawa Kanda (White buddha statue) at a Page 3/6
Hindu Temple visit. You ll also have an Indian Lunch in the city or an Ayurvedic massage. On Saturday you ll visit the Royal Botanical Gardens. Week 2 Monday you ll go on a train ride to Nanuoya and return to Kandy via bus. On Tuesday it s a day hike to Ambuluwawa Peak. Wednesday is the Loop Temple Walk and Thursday a visit to the UNESCO world heritage site Polonnaruwa and an overnight stay in Sigiriya. Friday is for climbing the Sigiriya Rock and Pidurangala Mountain. On Saturday you ll visit the Dambulla Cave Temples and return to Kandy. On Sunday you ll travel to the beach at Down South by train. Week 3 Monday is a river Safari at Madu Gaga and the afternoon at the beach. Tuesday involves a visit to South Asia s largest sleeping Buddha statue and Sri Lanka s largest wooden Buddha statue. Wednesday you ll feed turtles in the morning. Thursday is for a tour to a stunning waterfall in the morning and a restful afternoon. On Friday there is a Galle City Tour.
