May 2011 The Newsletter of Calvary Baptist Church Volume The Lamp A six-year-old boy called his mother from his friend Charlie's house and confessed he had broken a lamp when he threw a football in their living room. "But, Mom," he said, brightening, "you don't have to worry about buying another one. Charlie's mother said it was irreplaceable." No Sale "Is your mother home?" the salesman asked the small boy. "Yeah, she's home," the boy said, scooting over to let him past. The salesman rang the doorbell, got no response, knocked once, then again. Still no one came to the door. Turning to the boy, the fellow said, "I thought you said your mother was home!?" The kid replied, "She is; but this isn't where I live." Summer 2011...One Worship Service Join us each Sunday morning this summer as we ALL worship together @ 10:30 a.m. Starting Sunday, May 29th (Memorial Day Weekend) Bible Study Classes will be held @ 9:00 a.m.

COLONEL JONATHAN T. BALL Special Guest Speaker for Memorial Weekend Sunday Service Commander, 256 th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Louisiana Army National Guard Colonel Jonathan T. Ball is the Commander of the 256 th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Louisiana National Guard. He is responsible for the mission of mobilizing a Brigade of 3500 soldiers, providing leadership and guidance to man, train, support, sustain and maintain all subordinate units. He prepares the Brigade to deploy, fight, and win in accordance with assigned plans and contingency missions. Colonel Ball recently returned from deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom X and Operation New Dawn. Colonel Ball received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps in May 1983. Prior to his current assignment, Colonel Ball served in various command and staff positions. He was activated for Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav, and Ike. Worship Notes I want to say a huge thank you to all 70+ people who were a part of My God is Real. This was a massive effort which took lots of time and energy to make happen. This musical drama was partially inspired by the spiritual journey of a real person who is a dear friend of mine. Even though he was not able to attend the presentation, he has requested a copy of the service and has told me that he is still searching for truth. The testimonies of those who participated as well as those who attended have been a huge blessing! I pray that we will continue to see the impact from this worship opportunity for days to come. I also want to thank all of those who are helping out with Calvary s Gospel Jubilee at the Dixie Center for the Arts. It has been a lot of fun working together with everyone and getting to know some people who work at some local radio stations which are helping promote this event. I pray that this fund raiser for Calvary s future facilities will facilitate other efforts towards raising money for these facilities. Tickets are $15 (orchestra), $12 (balcony), and $5 (children). Got a Talent? We are constantly seeking ways to incorporate creative elements into our worship services. If you can sing, play an instrument, can do video editing, or have any other talent which could be used to enhance our worship services, please give me a call or e-mail me. I can be reached at 255-3594 or ctolar@calvaryruston.org. I am specifically seeking out some brass instrument players in order to have an occasional brass ensemble play. We have a person who can play tuba, but we need the tuba. God bless you as you serve Him! Cary Volume 133 Issue 4 Page 2
