The first step in this process is nomination of fourteen candidates from a slate of eligible and willing church members. From these fourteen, seven will be elected. Deacons are elected for a term of three years and then rotate off for a period of ineligibility equal to the length of time served. They assist church staff in providing pastoral care and support for church members, among other duties listed in the constitution. Requirements for election are as follows: Be a resident adult member (18 and above) for at least one year; Must not be a current member of the Church Council; Only one member of the diaconate from each family. For the next three Sundays (March 22, 29, and April 5) you will find in the Narthex a list of eligible members. If for some reason, after prayerful consideration, you determine that you are unable to serve in this role, now is the time to let us know. You may remove your name from the list by striking through your name and initialing the entry, or by contacting the church office. If you feel you have inadvertently been left off the list but your name should appear, please let the church office know that as well.

Women s Retreat: Join Binkley women, rekindle long relationships, and make new friends at Avila Retreat Center in Durham, April 10-12 (Friday evening through Sunday morning). The theme considers the gift of our physical being, remembering body stories, and acknowledging the body apart from cultural myths. Rebecca Rogers, a spiritual teacher of yoga who incorporates a Christian perspective, will guide our Saturday morning session. Come and be nourished, body and soul. Registration forms are available in the narthex. ~ Stephanie Ford Our Primetimers program for April is Adventures in Antarctica presented by Scott McMurry. Scott has an educational and employment background in the field of history, but his other interests are photography and traveling. We look forward to hearing about his fascinating journey south. We will meet at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, April 8, in the Lounge for lunch ($8) followed by the program. A sign-up sheet is located on Dale Osborne's door, or contact the office at office@binkleychurch.org. If you wish to come but don t want to eat, sign up anyway (no meal) so we can have a chair available for you. For more information, please contact Barbara Harris at barbharris99@gmail.com. Request for Proposals for Endowment Fund Grants: Have you or the committee whose meetings you are attending thought about some aspect of your work at Binkley you would like to see enhanced? If so, this may be the opportunity for which you have been waiting. The Binkley Endowment Fund produces income that is to be made available for three specific uses: 1. To provide support for special outreach ministries 2. To supplement support for special projects and programs, and 3. To provide for emergency needs of the physical plant. The Endowment Committee is seeking proposals for use of income generated for use in 2015. Requests can be made by any church board or committee or from individual church members. We encourage individuals making a request to contact the relevant Binkley committee to coordinate requests for any specific project. Approximately $7,600 is available for funding requests for this year. Proposals should include a statement of the purpose of the request (one or two paragraphs should be sufficient), explanation of how the request meets one or more of the three allowed uses listed above, and the amount of the request. Requests should be sent to the Endowment Committee through the church office (office@binkleychurch.org) by May 4. The committee will review the requests and will make formal recommendations for grants to the Church Council at the May Council meeting if at all possible. Ordinarily, funds must be spent or obligated prior to the end of the calendar year. LENTEN SUPPER SERIES: FAITHFUL STEWARDS OF JUSTICE, Wednesday, 5:30 7:00 pm - March 25.
