(Presently, Pastor Dave is on a mission trip. In his absence, please contact Pastoral Intern Wendy Poch at 303-514-5266 or wendy.poch@spiritofhopelcmc.org. Pastor Dave returns on October 12 th.) PASTORAL INTERN WENDY POCH IS ON CALL FOR PASTORAL EMERGENCIES AND URGENT ISSUES FOR THIS COMING SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, AT 303-514-5266. THIS SUNDAY AT SPIRIT OF HOPE This Sunday our regularly scheduled educational classes will take place at 10:45 am (see article below). Before that, we will gather for worship as Pastoral Intern Wendy Poch leads worship and preaches while Pastor Dave is in Africa for the Marion Medical Mission trip. This week we will read through Luke 11:29-36 where Jesus tells the crowd that the only sign they will see is the Sign of Jonah. In this passage, Jesus also talks about the Lamp of the Body and how to let it shine. Everything begins with fellowship at 9:00 am this Sunday at Pine Lane Elementary North (6485 E Ponderosa Drive, Parker, CO 80138). Worship follows fellowship at 9:30 am. Sunday School for all ages begins at 10:45 am. Youth Group follows from 12:00 pm 2:00 pm. SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES Here is the current schedule of classes, teachers and topics for Sunday School (10:45am 12:00pm) on September 2: Confirmation Class taught by Intern Wendy will begin with classes on navigating the Bible and the basic story of the Bible. This class meets in the art room upstairs. High School Class taught by Courtney Giles in September begins with a study called Life in Six Words by Dare 2 Share Ministry. This class meets in the gym.

Women s Study facilitated by Wendy West will start a new study called Family Matters looking at family dynamics (both personal and church family) from the perspective of Genesis 12-50, the gospels, Martin Luther s Small Catechism and modern family systems theory. This class meets in the innovation lab. General Adult Study will be facilitated in September by Brad Hoyt as the class begins a new Chip Ingram video-based class call Balancing Life s Demands. This class meets in the band room behind the stage in the gym. YOUTH NEWS! Up Coming Youth Events September 30: Youth Group 12-2 pm Pizza, games, Bible Study. October 4: Bring Your Bible to School Day October 14: Fear Factor/Faith Factor Watch future newsletters, GroupMe, and Facebook for details! Youth Group This Sunday! Youth in grade 7 up through young adults are welcome to join us for lunch, games, and Bible study/topical discussions. We will meet from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm. Young adults are invited to come in a leadership capacity (have lots fun and also help out as needed!) If we have enough people, we will play 9 Square! Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP to Intern Wendy by Saturday at noon. Friends are always welcome! Bring Your Bible to School Day - October 4th For the fourth year in a row, we are inviting students in elementary school through college to bring their Bibles to school with them on October 4th as part of the nation-wide Bring Your Bible to School Day. This event, sponsored by Focus on the Family, is to encourage students to be comfortable with their faith, remind students and families that we do have a legal right to bring Bibles into the school and to read them and/or share them during free periods (in between classes, before/after school, lunch, study halls, etc.). This day also provides an opportunity for students to be asked questions about their faith - giving students the opportunity to share the love of Jesus Christ with their classmates. Students are encouraged to bring their Bibles to school on October 4th, and to read them as opportunity allows throughout the day. If you would like more information about

Bring Your Bible to School Day, you can learn more here: http://www.bringyourbible.org/ PRAYER REQUESTED FOR MMM MISSION TRIP Africa Trip sponsored by Marion Medical Missions Wayne Schultz, Tiffany Poch, Rodney Pobar, and Pastor Dave Fisher are presently serving on a month-long Marion Medical Mission trip. They left on September 14 th and will return to Denver on October 12. Two teams will try to help install 2,900 clean water drinking wells in the name of Christ before the end of October. The Spirit of Hope members of the trip will be on Team 1. Presently, Tiffany and Pastor Dave are serving on two different teams in Tanzania, Wayne is serving in Zambia, and Rodney is serving in Malawi. Please pray for our shortterm missionaries during this trip! Marion Medical Mission Trip - Facebook Prayer Group A temporary Facebook group has been set up those interested in praying for our MMM team (Pastor Dave, Wayne, Rodney and Tiffany) can follow the trip and lift up prayers. LCMC ANNUAL GATHERING Des Moines, IA, October 7 th -10 th This year s LCMC Annual Gathering will be held at the Hyvee Hall in Des Moines, IA from October 7 th 10 th. Pastoral Intern Wendy Poch will be representing Spirit of Hope as a voting delegate and will attend business meetings, lectures and programs. The theme for this year s conference is Growing Up and has been advertised with the following description: It is time for our churches to grow up and become mature, hearing the call for every member to carry out the

work of ministry as God has designed His Church to do. The event will be live-streamed. In addition, sessions will be recorded and made available for viewing at a later date. Live-stream and other information can be found here: www.lcmc.net. Intern Wendy will still be available via email, phone, and text and will be working remotely. Pastor Craig Lanning will be leading worship on October 7 th and will be hosting an intergenerational Sunday School hour (all regular Sunday School classes will be in recess) about the exciting things that are taking place at Focus on the Family, where he works. Pastor Janet Miller (303-325-6459) will be on call for pastoral emergencies while both Pastor Dave and Intern Wendy are away. NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR 3 BOARD MEMBERS FOR 2019 According to the by-laws of Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church (B1.01) There shall be six lay members of the Church Board, who shall be selected by unanimous decision of the Church Board. Eligible members may volunteer or (with their consent) be nominated by any confirmed member no later than three months prior to the annual meeting. What this means is that any confirmed member of the congregation may volunteer themselves or nominate another confirmed member (with that member s consent) to serve on the board. Our current church board is scheduled to replace three of its six members in January 2019. John Parsons, Brad Hoyt and Wayne Schultz are scheduled to go off the board while Susan Spancers, Steve Gutknecht and Gary Flora are scheduled to remain on the board for one more year. Church Board terms are normally two years in length. If you would like to be considered for the board or nominate someone for consideration, please contact any board member or Pastor Dave in writing (letter or e-mail) between now and October 31. After October 31 those nominated will go through the vetting process described in the by-laws before being selected by the board before the next annual meeting. OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD IS COMING SOON Once again Spirit of Hope will participate in Operation Christmas Child sending shoe box size packages with basic items and small toys to needy children all over the world along with a gospel message. Look for more information to come soon!
