THE BOOK OF ISAIAH THE GOD OF OUR SALVATION ISAIAH CHAPTER 5:1-30 MEDIA REFERENCE NUMBER WNX632 FEBRUARY 4, 2015 THE TITLE OF THE MESSAGE: Part 2 Discovering the Salvation of the Lord Through The Grace of God SUBJECT TOPICALLY REFERENCED UNDER: Isaiah, Prophecy, Israel, United States, Vision Introduction to the Text; Isaiah 5:1-30 Isaiah is now called by God to deliver a Message in the form of a Poem, but not just any kind of a poem it s a Parabolic poem. A Parabolic poem about the future. Isaiah 5:1-30 Now let me (Isaiah) sing to my Well-beloved (Messiah) A song of my Beloved (God s song) regarding His vineyard (Israel): My Wellbeloved has a vineyard On a very fruitful hill. 2 He dug it up and cleared out its stones, And planted it with the choicest vine. He built a tower in its midst, And also made a winepress in it; So He expected it to bring forth good grapes, But it brought forth wild grapes. 3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, Judge, please, between Me and My vineyard. 4 What more could have been done to My vineyard That I have not done in it? Why then, when I expected it to bring forth good grapes, Did it bring forth wild grapes? 5 And now, please let Me tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be burned; And break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down. 6 I will lay it waste; It shall not be pruned or dug, But there shall come up briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds That they rain no rain on it. 7 For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, And the men of Judah are His pleasant plant. He looked for justice, but behold, oppression; For righteousness, but behold, a cry for help. Isaiah Names 6 Sins That are Responsible for Destroying a Nation, a Culture, and a Family, a Person like You. And He Answers Both the People and the Sin With a Woe ( A lamentation. A cry of sadness. A mournful weeping ) The Death of a Nation 1.) The Woe of Covetousness vs. 8-10 8 Woe to those who join house to house; They add field to field, Till there is no place Where they may dwell alone in the midst of the land! 9 In my hearing the LORD of hosts said, Truly, many houses shall be desolate, Great and beautiful ones, without inhabitant. 10 For ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath (6-9 gallons), And a homer of seed (60 lbs.) shall yield one ephah (6 lbs.). 2.) The Woe of Intoxication vs. 11-17 1

Notice: Covetousness will eventually lead you down into Intoxication / Drunkenness. Because Covetousness is never satisfied so drinking becomes an attempt to satisfy what things cannot. People drink to fill a void, a pain or shame. 11 Woe to those who rise early in the morning, That they may follow intoxicating drink; (yes I would like to have 2 eggs sunny side up, 2 strips of bacon and 2 bottles of beer) Who continue until night, till wine inflames (daw-lak = sets them on-fire emotionally. Sends them into a rage) them! God gave us a brain and He expects us to use it. Lets test our brain power shall we; (1) If I see a man crash his car into a crowd of people because he s drunk then I should (a) avoid all crowds. (b) never use a car again. (c) stay away from roadways or (d) never drink and drive. But Wait There s More When you drink, you become stupid. You lose all sense of judgment. You lose your morals. You lose discretion. nothing good comes of it. Proverbs 20:1 ESV Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise. Habakkuk 2:15 Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbor, Pressing him to your bottle, Even to make him drunk, That you may look on his nakedness! Proverbs 23:29-35 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? 30 Those who linger long at the wine, Those who go in search of mixed wine. 31 Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it swirls around smoothly; 32 At the last it bites like a serpent, And stings like a viper. 33 Your eyes will see strange things, And your heart will utter perverse things. 34 Yes, you will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, Or like one who lies at the top of the mast, saying: 35 They have struck me, but I was not hurt; They have beaten me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake, that I may seek another drink? 12: The harp and the strings, The tambourine and flute, And wine are in their feasts; (cocktail parties, happy hour, social drinking) But they do not regard the work of the LORD, Nor consider the operation of His hands. This Almost Sounds Like a Worship Service - almost The harp and the strings, The tambourine and flute, - - and wine Intoxication (including pot) dulls not only your mind and body but your spiritual discernment as well. if you re into being Under the Influence of something else then you are not under the influence of Holy Spirit. impossible! 13 Therefore my people have gone into captivity, Because they have no knowledge; Their honorable men are famished, And their multitude dried up with thirst. (ironically the drunk are always thirsty) Things To Come Luke 21:25-26 And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; 26 men s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, - give me a drink, pot, pill bath salts 14 THEREFORE Sheol (hell) has enlarged (unhinged its jaws) itself And opened its mouth beyond measure; Their glory and their multitude and their pomp, And he who is jubilant, shall descend into it. 2

So There is a Highway to Hell and the Partier is On It. Isaiah 14:9a NIV The realm of the dead below is all astir to meet you at your coming; it rouses the spirits of the dead to greet you 15 People shall be brought down, Each man shall be humbled, And the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled. 16 But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, And God who is holy shall be hallowed in righteousness. 17 Then the lambs shall feed in their pasture, And in the waste places of the fat ones strangers shall eat. 3.) The Woe of Carelessness vs. 18-19 18 Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of vanity, And sin as if with a cart rope; 19 That say, Let Him make speed and hasten His work, That we may see it; And let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near and come, That we may know it. Notice: (1) Covetousness leads to (2) Intoxication, which (3) leads to Carelessness Heedlessness, Inattention, Negligence, Unresponsive This is Incredibly Relevant Today. They would say Let HIM make speed and hasten His work, They are mocking the fact that God would never judge them not them! Isaiah is saying that they lived a sinful life, justified their wrongdoing and even enjoyed planning evil ALL THE WHILE they talked about God. They Could Speak Christian-ese This is the breaking of the 3 rd Commandment Exodus 20:7 NKJV You shall not take (wear, associate, be one with) the name of the LORD your God in vain, Exodus 20:7 NLT You must not misuse (misrepresent) the name of the LORD your God. The LORD will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name. Exodus 20:7 AMP You shall not bear (walk in hand) the name of the LORD your God in vain, The breaking of the 3 rd Commandment Today Looks like this Luke 6:43-46 For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. :46 But why do you call Me Lord, Lord, and not do the things which I say? Matthew 7:20-23 Therefore by their fruits you will know them. :21 Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name? 23 And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness! We re to be living every day for God s plan. Yes at work. At school. At play. In your family. In private. Outdoors. 3

Colossians 1:9-10 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 4.) The Woe of Deception vs. 20 Notice: (1) Covetousness leads to (2) Intoxication, which (3) leads to Carelessness, which leads to Deception. 20 Woe to those who call (reassign, reappoint, remake) evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Man will attempt to re-write the moral code. ( its been placed inside of every human being by God ) Again the Relevance of this is Beyond coincidence! Isaiah warns of a culture absent of God when it redefines the meaning of words and morals. Adultery is now an affair Homosexuality is gay / Abortion is a woman s choice Pornography is your freedom of expression. Virginity is dysfunctional. Faith is now for the backward Good is now oppression. What s Biblical is now hate-speech Marriage is now a license for perversion ( a culture that functions on feelings will soon collapse ) Karl Barth once encountered a man on a university campus here in the USA who said I do not believe there is a God and I can prove it. If God is God let him strike me dead in the next ten seconds to that Barth said Do you think you can exhaust the patience of God in just 10 seconds? - Isaac Asimov (1920-1992) I am an atheist, out and out. It took me a long time to say it. I ve been an atheist for years and years, but somehow I felt it was intellectually unrespectable to say one was an atheist, because it assumed knowledge that one didn t have. Somehow it was better to say one was a humanist or an agnostic. I finally decided that I m a creature of emotion as well as of reason. Emotionally I am an atheist. I don t have the evidence to prove that God doesn t exist, but I so strongly suspect he doesn t that I don t want to waste my time. Sir Richard Branson (born 1950) Reflecting on the fact that as his balloon was severely damaged it looked as if he would die, wrote; I do not believe in God, but as I sat there in the damaged capsule, hopelessly vulnerable to the slightest shift in weather or mechanical fault, I could not believe my eyes. 4

Ephesians 5:3-14a NLT Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God s people. 4 Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. 5 You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. :6 Don t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him. 7 Don t participate in the things these people do. 8 For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! 9 For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. :10 Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. :11 Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. 12 It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret. 13 But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, 14a for the light makes everything visible. 5.) The Woe of Pride vs. 21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, And prudent in their own sight! Self aggrandizement. The elevation of self. Having a higher opinion of your ideas more than what others can contribute. ( we have politicians today who honestly believe that no matter how things go and no matter how people vote their own opinion is the final word. ) Narcissus was a Megalomaniac a Megalomaniac Is one who sincerely thinks that they are the only person Gifted, able and smart enough to solve a problem. The noun Narcissist refers to someone intensely concerned with only his or her own agenda, self-interests and being self-absorbed, forgets that others exist. Proverbs 16:18-19 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. 19 Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, Than to divide the spoil with the proud. Proverbs 3:5-7 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. 6.) The Woe of Injustice vs. 22-25 22 Woe to men mighty at drinking wine, Woe to men valiant for mixing intoxicating drink, (using drink to take advantage of another) 23 Who (by their perverted authority) justify the wicked for a bribe, And take away justice from the righteous man! 5

Judges who had sworn to uphold the law, used their authority to punish the innocent and free the guilty sound familiar? Proposition 8 is law. // AB1266 was legally achieved. ( but the wicked judges have overturned what is right ) But do not lose heart my friend justice is coming 24 Therefore, as the fire devours the stubble, And the flame consumes the chaff, So their root will be as rottenness, And their blossom will ascend like dust; Because they have rejected the law of the LORD of hosts, And despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. 25 Therefore the anger of the LORD is aroused against His people; He has stretched out His hand against them And stricken them, And the hills trembled. Their carcasses were as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this His anger is not turned away, But His hand is stretched out still. God will visit the minds of The Assyrians and they will begin to think about Israel in the North and they will think to attack it. God will visit the minds of The Babylonians and they will begin to think about Judah, Jerusalem in the South and they will think to attack it. Jerusalem is no stranger to attacks The Assyrians would soon be on their way, later in 586 b.c. the Babylonian general, Nebuchadnezzar And again in 70a.d. by the roman general Titus Vespasian and the 5 th Roman legion would destroy the temple. 26 He will lift up a banner to the nations from afar, And will whistle to them from the end of the earth; Come and Get Em Surely they shall come with speed, swiftly. 27 No one will be weary or stumble among them, No one will slumber or sleep; Nor will the belt on their loins be loosed, Nor the strap of their sandals be broken; 28 Whose arrows are sharp, And all their bows bent; Their horses hooves will seem like flint, And their wheels like a whirlwind. 29 Their roaring will be like a lion, They will roar like young lions; Yes, they will roar And lay hold of the prey; They will carry it away safely, And no one will deliver. 30 In that day they will roar against them like the roaring of the sea. And if one looks to the land, Behold, darkness and sorrow; And the light is darkened by the clouds.
