MOUNT OLIVE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH 2401 University Blvd. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106-5033 Website: www.mom-bc.com 505-242-8331 REVEREND MICHAEL SUMBRY, PASTOR GLORIA WADDLES-PERRY, ANNIVERSARY CHAIRWOMAN MOUNT OLIVE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH 120 TH CHURCH ANNIVERSARY Sunday, September 23, 3:00 pm "Praising God Who Specializes in the Impossible"

Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Albuquerque, NM In the early part of 1898, Mrs. Tabytha Watson and her two children moved from Gainesville, Texas to Albuquerque, New Mexico. They did not find a Baptist Church in the town or state, so they worshipped with the African Methodist Episcopal Church for about five months. In September, being inspired by her heavenly Father, Mrs. Watson started conducting Sunday School and prayer meetings in her home at 4th and Copper Avenue, then from these meetings a Baptist Church was organized and named Mount Olive Baptist Church. Rev. Gladden came from Colorado Springs, Colorado and joined Ms. Watson and those original members. They raised $135 to purchase a lot at 510 Lead Avenue. A white frame hall was placed on the back of the lot where church services were held. Rev. J.B. Bell from Phoenix, Arizona was called to pastor the church in 1900. Baptismal services were performed in the Rio Grande River until a pool was built in the hall. The church faithfully prayed, worshipped and studied. Eventually, the church had enough money to start building a new brick building. In 1909, the church building was finished in the front of that lot. The hall in back of the church was used as an annex. The church was incorporated with the following persons on the charter: Alexander E. Reynolds, Kent Penman, Mamie Green, Daniel Austin and John Collins. The original congregation included the Bramlett, Collins, Watson, Watts, Richard and Lott families. Brother Penman was Sunday School Superintendent, Brother Lott was choir director with his wife as organist an old pump organ had been donated. Brother D.A. Austin, John Collins, F.D. Faucett and A.J. Clayton were Deacons. Brothers Vance Green, F.D. Faucett and E.L. Carson were Trustees. In 1934, the lot at 508 Lead Avenue was purchased. A parsonage was built for a pastor to live in. The white frame hall at the back end of the church was sold. Later, a house at 512 Lead Avenue was purchased, remodeled, and converted into Sunday School rooms, rest rooms, a large dining room, and kitchen. Every Fourth of July, the church held a picnic for the children and adults at the Rio Grande Park, Witcomb Springs area or Bear Canyon area (located in the Sandia Mountains). In those early days, the transportation was by stagecoach. Everyone especially enjoyed riding the Jumbo Stagecoach line. The African Methodist Episcopal Church and Mount Olive Baptist Church enjoyed many social events together. Several Pastors were called to lead Mount Olive until in 1968, Rev. Dr. W.C. Trotter was called as Mount Olive s Pastor. In 1970, the properties at 508, 510, and 512 Lead were sold. The property at 2401 University Boulevard was purchased and ground breaking ceremonies took place the same year. The first building, the Ralph Bunche Cultural Center, was completed; and on February 17, 1977 the present sanctuary was dedicated. Mount Olive can be thankful to God for Rev. and Sister Trotter s leadership, dedication and vision in these accomplishments. The Trotters retired in 1980. In 1981, Rev. Del Phillips was called and served Mount Olive as pastor until 1985. Rev. Charles Becknell was pastor from 1988 until 1990. Rev. Lawrence W. George, from Detroit, Michigan, was pastor from 1992 until 1995. Rev. John Riley served faithfully as interim pastor from 1995 to 1997. Rev. Stephen Billingslea became Pastor in August of 1997 and served until December 2002. Rev. Michael Sumbry was called and has been serving as pastor since November 2004. In September of 2018, Mount Olive will celebrate its 120th anniversary. We must continue to Trust God for a glorious future as we move forward in prayer.

Rev. Delmus L. Gillis is the Senior Pastor of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clovis, NM. Pastor Gillis was raised in Clinton, SC. After graduating from Clinton High School in 1991, he joined the United States Air Force. He has been stationed in Oklahoma, Texas, Japan and New Mexico. He retired in 2014 after 23 years of active duty service. Pastor Gillis discovered his love for God s word as a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Chickasha, OK under the watchful eye of his father, Pastor Al Walter. In May 2004, after much prayer and reluctance, he answered his call from God to preach the Gospel. Rev. Gillis preached his first sermon on June 12, 2004 and was ordained in August 2007. He also served at the Kadena Gospel Fellowship in Japan and St. John Baptist Church in Clovis, NM. Pastor Gillis is the devoted and loving husband of Stephanie Gillis and proud father of four children, Shay na, Stevana, Delmus III, and Hamilton and one grand-son Samir. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayland Baptist University and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Liberty University Theological Seminary. Pastor Gillis is a Board Member of the National Baptist Convention USA, INC., a certified instructor, President of The United Ministerial Fellowship of Clovis, and Vice President of the Jerusalem District Congress of Christian Education. Pastor James E. Forney was born March13, 1946 in Johnson City Tennessee. His family later moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he attended school. After graduating from high school he joined the United States Air Force in August 1963, where he served his country for 27 years. He retired from active duty May1, 1990, as a Chief Master Sergeant (E-9). Rev Forney has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University, Associate degree from Western Oklahoma State University. He has attended Liberty University, and Andersonville Baptist Seminary. He is the Pastor of Corinth Baptist Church, located at 400 Delaware Avenue, Alamogordo, New Mexico. He has served as pastor of this body of' baptized believers since September 1991. Pastor Forney has served as President of the local chapter of the Otero County Branch of the NAACP, served as the Moderator for the New Hope District Association, and served as President of the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist State Convention of New Mexico, Inc. for twelve years. Pastor Forney and the Mt. Olive Baptist State Convention family completed a $650,000; 6500 hundred square foot camping/educational facility in the Sacramento Mountains, Near Albuquerque, New Mexico. A first for African American s in the state of New Mexico. He and his loving wife were blessed to help write a book for our National Congress of Christian Education entitled Marriage Matters: It s God Will! He is married to his lovely bride, Sister Neva Forney. More than anything Pastor Forney loves proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Reverend Brian Harvey is the pastor of the Bethel Second Baptist Church in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where he has served since 2014. Before joining the Bethel Second Baptist Church family, Rev. Harvey served as an associate minister at the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As an associate minister, Rev. Harvey served as a FAITH evangelism instructor, youth Sunday school teacher, prison ministry team member and he was blessed to be a part of the church s mission trip to Belize, which was a solidifying experience of what mission outreach is about. Rev. Harvey is also founder and former pastor of Yahweh s Temple of Praise Church in Albuquerque, serving there from 1999-2002. During his early years in ministry, Rev. Harvey eagerly assisted pastors in Albuquerque when needed, including serving as interim pastor of Ambassadors for Christ church. Rev. Harvey is certainly passionate about the church s mission and he also has a great deal of passion for community service. He served as an on-call assistant head chaplain for the Albuquerque Police Department, volunteering his time to offer crisis and grief counseling to members of the community experiencing crises. Rev. Harvey s work in the community also led him to the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center, where he ministered to incarcerated men. Rev. Harvey is grateful for the powerful anointing that God has entrusted him with, as he boldly brings forth the message of healing and deliverance to the wounded and broken-hearted. Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, California, the fifth of ten children, he was often referred to as a quiet dove with a kind spirit. Rev. Harvey s upbringing and youthful experiences were instrumental in molding him into the kindhearted human being and gospel preacher that he is today. Rev. Harvey s growth and development as a young man can also be attributed to the time he spent serving this country. Following high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served 6 years. After military discharge, Rev. Harvey made Albuquerque his home, and in 1992 he dedicated his life to the Lord and accepted the call to preach the gospel. Rev. Harvey has a heart of compassion and is a beloved father with unfailing patience. When one of his brothers could no longer care for his children, Rev. Harvey adopted and raised Nalisha, Keisha, Kalvin and Shaniqua Harvey from early childhood. Rev. Harvey s adult children reside in the Albuquerque area. Pastor Harvey has the love, support and commitment of his wife and friend of 10 years, Kimberly Harvey, a life-long resident of NM. Together they have 2 children, Kaylie and Cameron. Rev. Harvey is also bi-vocational. He has worked 23 years in public service for the City of Albuquerque and presently for the City of Las Cruces. Pastor Harvey is an anointed man of God who feels privileged to be used as God s vessel to minister to God s people. There is nothing that Rev. Harvey desires more than to please God by staying in His will. Rev. Harvey believes his greatest accomplishments are yet to come. As he continues on this Christian journey, he plans to take full advantage of every opportunity to draw from his life experiences and biblical knowledge and training to use as tools to help others realize their greatest potential in Christ.
