Samuel met a shoemaker (Sutton Godbold) in nearby Wilby Village. Samuel learned how to make and repair shoes. www.cobbler.co.uk Samuel fell in love with the shoemaker s daughter. Her name was Hannah Godbold. freekidscoloringpages.net Samuel and Hannah married in 1841. Soon they had a baby boy. They named him James. Samuel became a good shoemaker. He moved his family to London, where he could make more money. www.drtoy.com They lived near the beautiful Regent Park. 1 Soon (1845) James had a baby sister to play with. Her name was Elizabeth. 1 Regent s Park was also the neighborhood in London where the story 101 Dalmatians took place. The Dalmatian dogs were taken for walks in Regent's Park by their human family. The missionaries told Samuel about the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ through the Prophet Joseph Smith. He read the Book of Mormon with his family. The family prayed about what to do. Samuel worked hard to take care of his family. He found a way to make more money. He became a cab driver. The Hansom Cab was the fastest way to get around London. 2 The driver sat high and behind, with reins and whip to control the horse. www.edupics.com Samuel celebrated his children s weddings: His daughter Elizabeth married George Bird in 1866 His son James married a cousin, Elizabeth Motts, in 1873 His son Frederick Charles married Martha White in 1884 It was a sad day in 1882 when Samuel s wife, Hannah, died. After Hannah died, Samuel gave up cab driving. He started making and repairing shoes again. The family thought about immigrating to Utah to be with the Latter-day Saints in Zion, where the Salt Lake Temple was being built. Samuel s son James was the first to go. James [46], his wife Elizabeth (Motts) [45], and their son Ernie [9] left Denham Village. They arrived safely in Salt Lake City on November 9, 1888 just a week before Ernie turned 10. By 1892 the temple was nearing completion. Samuel s other son, Frederick Charles, also decided to leave Denham Village and move his family to Utah. Samuel decided to go to Salt Lake City with them. On June 3, 1893, Samuel Bush and family boarded the Steam Ship Arizona at Liverpool, England and crossed the Atlantic Ocean to New York in America. www.istockphoto.com They all boarded a train for Salt Lake City. On board were, Samuel Bush [72], Frederick Charles Bush [34], his wife Martha (White) [35], and their three children May [8], Samuel H. [5], and Rose [3]. At first they all stayed with James in his Salt Lake City home. Fred soon found a home nearby for his family to live in. Samuel chose to live with James. Tragedy struck the family five months later when James [51] died unexpectedly in November 1893, leaving his widow, Elizabeth [50] and son Ernie [15]. Samuel continued living with them, helping as best he could. Then in 1895 Frederick Charles [36] was hurt in an accident. He couldn t walk without crutches. He couldn t work, so his family was short on money. Samuel moved in with Fred s family to help out. Samuel taught Fred s wife Martha how to make shoes to earn extra money. He was a beloved grandpa to Fred s children. In 1898 Samuel Bush died in his sleep at Fred s home. He was 76 years old. He was buried in Salt Lake City.
