Smithton Church of the Nazarene 157 Fitz Henry Road Smithton PA 15479 724-872-5058 smithtonnaz@gmail.com www.smithtonnaz.org Our world is messed up. Ancient Rome and Greece weren t that much different in principle than we are today. Humanity, without God, hasn t changed. Humankind is still seeking its salvation through the created. Whether it be an image, an ideal, a charismatic personality, a temporary distraction (entertainments and games), material gain and hoarding, achievements, or some other imagined or imaged reality our world is seeking what it can t give itself. Deceit, even self-deceit, is rampant as our cultures, governments, and neighbors quest for meaning, purpose, and direction. Nothing can replace the reality of the Creator in relationships, in purpose, in living, in goals, in worship, in and through all aspects of our existence. There is nothing new under the sun. For reflection: Lord God, protector of your people, your light is true light, and your truth shines like the day. Through your pure and lifegiving words direct us to salvation and give us the help we long for in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. For All the Saints Let your light shine in the dark- Why does our culture adoringly flock after individuals who are overpaid for role playing? Busyness, constant activity, and multi-tasking are greatly admired while we cannot rest or relax without some sort of deadening stimuli makes sense? We mostly treat the symptoms of addiction, disease, and violence while overlooking the root cause(s). Education is so valued as the answer yet we do not know how to avoid war, inequality, and various manifestations of pestilence. Why are the themes of our entertainments applauded yet criminalized when they become realities? Ex: graphic violence, sensationalized sexuality Being a spectator is elevated to participant status. Are we really satisfied to watch as our world self-taps itself to destruction? For study, meditation and prayer: John 6.35 Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 40 This is indeed the will of my Father, that all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day. 2 Cor. 10.3 Indeed, we live as human beings, but we do not wage war according to human standards; 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not merely human, but they have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments 5 and every proud obstacle raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ. On the Kingdom Road Pastor Mike In Christ's teaching, it is not simply works of charity and deeds of mercy upon which He insists, but inward spiritual character. This much is demanded, and nothing short of it, will suffice. E. M. Bounds
