Today we join Jesus as he proceeds to his destiny with all of the dignity that comes from integrity. Are we willing to follow this Messiah, Jesus, a messiah who exhorts selfemptying rather than self-fulfillment, obedience rather than willfulness, openness to new insights rather than adherence to outdated concepts? Are we willing to stand up for truth regardless of the price it may require of us? Are we really willing to take up our cross and follow him? Daily Reflections for Lent and Easter-Dianne Bergant, CSA Living the Gospel by supporting the Deaf community PALM SUNDAY-April 9, 2017 Taavi wasn't engaged at his school or in extracurricular sports and as a Deaf person, he faced obstacles trying to join his hearing peers. His mom encouraged him to try to participate in the Deaf community. His life changed when he joined a Deaf basketball fun day hosted by Silent Voice and met Mike, Director of the Silent Voice Child and Family Program. He joined a Deaf sports team, began a coop position with Silent Voice in his 4th year of high school, and was hired as a counselor in the Silent Voice Sign Language Summer day camp. He continues to volunteer at Silent Voice and says, I m grateful to ShareLife supported Silent Voice and want to be a role model for Deaf kids, like Mike was to me. Last year more than 600 deaf children received help through ShareLife-supported Silent Voice s Sign Language Summer Camps. Thank you for your support and generosity of our parish ShareLife campaign. To date, our parishioners have contributed $41,144.00 toward our parish goal of $48,000. Please help us to Live the gospel by supporting our parish ShareLife campaign! Next ShareLife Sunday is May 7, 2017

Palm Sunday Palms are used on Passion Sunday (Palm Sunday) to remember Jesus the Messiah s entry into Jerusalem. These branches join us with those shouting, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! The Lord is leading us into God s city of life, the New Jerusalem. Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord s Supper Washing of the Feet, we will have the Mandatum (Service) which traditionally has been the Washing of the Feet. The mandatum is meant to be much more than re- enacting what Jesus did. It is more than fulfilling His words do what I have done to you. To wash another s feet is to get very close to what makes us Church, to our Easter Triduum to minister to one another. This celebration will take place at Guardian Angels, St. Columbkille and St. Francis of Assisi Churches. Good Friday On Good Friday, we hear how Jesus obediently allowed himself to be raised up on the cross. What took place on that cross, the execution of God s son, tied together heaven and earth. It provided a channel for God s lifeand world, tearing giving Spirit to break into our lives away the curtain separating God from people. We pray for all human needs, for all those crucified in the world today. We venerate the wood of the cross on which hung the Savior of the world. And we wait quietly for what comes next.

A fire, a large candle and lots of readings: from dawn of creation to the dawn of Christ, the new day. The candle is dated, blessed and praised - eucharisted over. It is the pillar of fire that glows to the honor of God. By its shared light, the light of the saving Messiah, we can hear and understand better God s loving incursions into creation s story. All is retold and done this night in the light of Christ. Those to be initiated or received into the Spirit-given new creation are washed and anointed in that same Holy Spirit, and celebrate Eucharist with us fully, partaking in the divine life we all share. Easter Flowers We are again offering Parishioners a chance to sponsor Easter Flowers for the Sanctuary, there are Easter Flower envelopes at the Church Entrances.
