Vince Zaprzal Director of Parish Ministries & Religious Education 630-953-4415 vzaprzal@ascensionofourlord.net Prayer for Independence Day God, source of all freedom, this day is bright with the memory of those who declared life and liberty are your gift to every human being. Help us to continue a good work begun long ago. Make our vision clear and our will strong: that only in human solidarity will we find liberty, and justice only in the honor that belongs to every life on earth. Turn our hearts toward the family of nations: to understand the ways of others, to offer friendship, and to find safety only in the common good of all. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. ~Catholic Household Blessings & Prayers 2018-19 Religious Education Program (Grades K-8) Registration information for the 2018-19 school year is currently underway. In the coming weeks ComEd will be out to run the new power line once they receive the necessary permits from DuPage County regarding the east side of Summit Avenue. Parking Lot Our parking lot was resealed this past Wednesday and Thursday. A couple of modifications were made to our handicap parking to put all of those spaces to code. You will notice that we went back to a yellow paint as many people have told me it makes it much easier to see, especially during the Winter. LED Electronic Message Sign Notice of a Public Hearing will be posted on our property on July 9, 2018 for the modification of a new electric LED message sign. Notices of the Public Hearing will also appear in our local newspaper and the notice will be mailed to those who have an address within 250 feet. I am pleased to announce that the CCW has put $5,000 towards this project! If anyone would like to donate directly to the cost of the new LED sign, please contact myself or Ed Rylko our Business Manager. Shrine of Christ s Passion Our Senior Adult Ministry had a great time this past Wednesday at the Shrine of Christ s Passion in Saint John, Indiana. A Church Tour trip will be planned for September. Watch this space for details!

Around the Diocese and Parish Neighborhood WHAT WE TRY TO DO BEST As Vincentians our mission is to assist the basic needs of people who find themselves impoverished or uncertain on which way to go forward. Because everyone who comes to our attention is unique we try not to prejudge and avoid stereotyping the situation and intention of those seeking our help. We never work alone but always have at least two Members together working with each individual or family. Simply, what we try to do best are: Shelter the homeless. Clothe the poor with adequate and weathersuitable clothing. Feed the hungry. Provide beds and mattresses to the tired and disabled. Give light back to those in darkness. Aid the sick. Counsel the confused. Arrange transit for those CARless for employment and medical care. And whatever good is needed that we can provide. As an organization our Members volunteer their time and talents to assist the disadvantaged among us. We request your help in the form of funds and especially your prayers that aid all of us in our daily lives and service to others. Finally, we ask you to directly join us in our work as a community. To learn more about our work consider attending our next meeting at the Parish Office Conference Room this coming Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at 4:00 PM. Come and see what we are doing and what you can do to become a part of or lead this work of doing our best. We are pleased to announce the launch of a brand new men's program starting this fall called That Man Is You! TMIY is running in over 600 parishes across the country with over 25,000 men meeting every week. The program aims to form men capable of transforming themselves, their families, and greater society. TMIY combines the teaching of the Catholic faith, the best of current scientific and sociological research, and the wisdom of the saints to address the pressures and temptations that men face in our modern culture. Sponsored by the Eastern DuPage Deanery and hosted by Mary Queen of Heaven, Elmhurst, TMIY is launching on Saturday, September 8. Sessions begin and end promptly, 6:30-8:00 AM. You will be hearing more about the program in August, but please mark your calendars now. It's sure to be a great year! BIKE PILGRIMAGE Join Corpus Christi Church, 1415 W. Lies Road, in Carol Stream, on a 10 mile bike ride to Divine Mercy Church, 21W411 Sunset Avenue, in Lombard on Saturday, July 14th. We will begin with a blessing at Corpus Christi at 8:00 a.m. and then use the Great Western Trail to ride to Divine Mercy. We will visit the church, pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and enjoy games and a picnic on their beautiful grounds before riding back to Corpus Christi. (The option to carpool back will be available.) To register, please contact Corpus Christi at ccmission77@gmail.com or 630-483-4673. Cost is $6 per person or $20 per family.
