The parable describes sin as a kind of exile from our Father s House. Inside the House is salvation. The young son chose to leave the house and waste his inheritance, his gifts from God. The beauty of the lesson is that the young son is not barred from returning. This is the heart of humble repentance: having the sense and will to rise up and turn back home. In doing so we forget our pride, admit all the things we have done wrong, and throw ourselves on our Father s mercy. Just as the father forgives his son, we can be forgiven our sin when we repent. Today is the Feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple and the closing of the nativity cycle. When Christ was 40 days old, the Holy Theotokos and Joseph brought Him to the Temple following religious observance. On the icon, we see Christ in Simeon s arms. Simeon was a devout man who prayed to see the Messiah before he died. Anna the Prophetess is also there holding a scroll that states, This Child has established heaven and earth. Today is Forgiveness Sunday, a day the Church remembers the disobedience and explusion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. The sin of disobedience was not so much of eating the fruit of the Tree, but the sin was going against God's command. Even worse, Adam and Eve never asked for forgiveness and instead, blamed one another. They were both expelled from Paradise because they did not want to be united to God and submit to Him. Genuine repentance and reconciliation with God can only occur when, at the same time, we are reconciled with Him and one another.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY - Let us all wish Nik and Catherine Rael many happy and blessed years! Sunday of the Last Judgment Today is the 3rd Sunday prior to the start of Great Lent. The last two Sundays cover repentance, humility and God s readiness to accept every sinner who returns to Him. While God is patient and merciful, He does not forgive those who do not repent. On this third Sunday, focus is placed on the future judgment of all persons who will stand before the throne of God when Christ returns in His glory. He will separate those in front of Him, like a shepherd, with sheep on His right hand and goats on His left. To the sheep, He will say Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. The goats will be condemned to everlasting punishment because they ignored service to those in need. February 22 nd Announcements Let us all wish Michael Bulko (SI), Michael John Chanat, Bill Hlinka, Sr, Justina Ryan, Hunter Salony many happy and blessed years! For those out-of-town readers of the bulletin, you can mail the form to the Church (address on the first page).
