Dear Candidate, Thank you for your interest in the post of Lead Elder at Meadows Community Church, Wigston, Leicester. We are looking to appoint a church leader who will lead the current team of five elders, help the church reach its full missional potential, develop a discipleship culture and encourage the release of spiritual gifts. We are looking for someone with vision, experience, passion and gifting to take us forward into a greater realisation of our mission statement Hunger for God Heart for People. Our prayer is that God will lead his choice to us, a person who will read the details below with a growing sense of excitement at the challenge ahead and a vision for being used by the Holy Spirit in South Leicester. About Meadows Community Church We are an evangelical, charismatic church set in Wigston Magna, a suburban area South of Leicester City. We have a strong commitment to meaningful worship, relevant preaching based on the authority of God s Word, an openness to the renewing work of the Holy Spirit and a desire to be more missional in everything we do. In 2016 we agreed a new three year vision 2019: Someone is in this church because of me. The church started in 1993 as a church plant from a large evangelical church. The church met for the first 8 years in Meadows Community Primary School on the estate, but due to growth, and with a vision to reach into the community, a disused hosiery factory was purchased and completely refurbished to a high standard. The building is known as The King s Centre and is managed by a full time Centre Manager. Rooms are hired out for community use and within the building is a Day Nursery & Pre-School which caters for 70 children over the week. The church currently have two paid elders who share a full time role. Both will retire following this appointment and a period of handover, but will continue on the eldership in a voluntary capacity. We also employ a CAP Office Manager and a Family Support Worker. There is a Foodbank on site which opens twice a week (The Trussell Trust affiliated).
Typical weekly schedule : Nursery open 8:00am-6:00pm Mon-Fri Rooms Hired out Mon-Sat Sunday Worship service 10:30-12:00am followed by tea & coffee (50 adults + 20 children) Making Way for the Holy Spirit monthly 7:00-8:30pm (12 adults) Monday Coffee & Craft (monthly am) Foodbank (eve) Tuesday Home Groups (eve) Church Night (monthly eve) Wednesday Thursday Foodbank (pm) EPIC Youth group (eve) Friday Bi-monthly community children events Saturday Occasional Men s conference, Women s Conference, special events Numbers: We have an active membership of 76. Average attendance on a Sunday morning is around 50 adults + 20 children. Tots & Carers attracts 200 parents and carers from the community each week. Job Description & Person Specification Lead Elder Purpose of Post: To direct the leadership team in creative vision and strategic thinking To inspire, release and equip the church to share their faith and be involved in mission To increase the profile of Meadows Community Church and develop opportunities to build bridges with the community To grow the church numerically and develop the church spiritually Background & Knowledge: A mature committed Christian who is prayerful and open to the renewing work of the Holy Spirit and one who holds to traditional church beliefs and teaching in matters of faith and conduct. A willingness to work as part of a leadership team with good communication and coordination. The post-holder may or may not have had formal theological education and training, but will have had significant relevant experience within a church or para-church organisation. There is no gender restriction in our constitution. What the job entails: The following areas will be within the scope of the post. The post holder will be responsible for deciding, with the elders, the prioritisation of these. Within the church Encourage, motivate and grow individual Christians and unite the Body of Christ by inspirational preaching. Preaching will be shared with others in the church on a rotational basis. Lead people at every stage of their Christian walk in the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Develop effective follow up and discipleship for new Christians. Inspire, train and mentor individuals and groups. Balance the UP-IN-OUT aspects of church life. Promote mission and lead individuals into first-hand experience of evangelism. Be creative in introducing fresh expressions of church. Within the Community: Develop relationships and network with community agencies, groups and businesses. Identify opportunities for the church to bless the community as part of their mission. Raise the profile of The King s Centre and Meadows Community Church in the community. Working arrangements: You will work with and be accountable to the elders. The contract will be permanent and a probationary period of 6 months will be applicable. The working hours will be flexible and as necessary to deliver the job description. You will be expected to take one clear day off each week. Shared office space will be provided on the church premises if reqd. We do not provide housing. The post requires an enhanced disclosure DBS. Salary: Full Time (although we may be open to more creative arrangements) You will be an employee of Meadows Community Church for HMRC tax and NI purposes, but in law you will be an Office Holder. 28,000-32,000 per annum depending on age and experience.
