Service of Divine Worship October 14, 2018 5:15PM Sanctuary We rest our hearts in God s presence as we prepare for worship PRELUDE MY WORTH IS NOT IN WHAT I OWN We celebrate God s presence with us WELCOME & LEADERSHIP VOWS God invites us to worship him in spirit and in truth INVOCATION & CALL TO WORSHIP PSALM 145:9-13 Leader: The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made. People: All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD, and all your saints shall bless you! Leader: They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. People: Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. 1

We sing praises to God for who he is and for what he has done SONGS OF PRAISE ALL I HAVE IS CHRIST I once was lost in darkest night, yet thought I knew the way. The sin that promised joy and life had led me to the grave. I had no hope that you would own a rebel to your will, And if you had not loved me first, I would refuse you still. But as I ran my hell-bound race, indifferent to the cost, You looked upon my helpless state and led me to the cross. And I beheld God s love displayed, you suffered in my place. You bore the wrath reserved for me now all I know is grace. Chorus: Hallelujah, all I have is Christ. Hallelujah, Jesus is my life. Hallelujah, all I have is Christ. Hallelujah, Jesus is my life. Now Lord, I would be yours alone and live so all might see The strength to follow your commands could never come from me. Oh Father use my ransomed life in any way you choose, And let my song forever be: my only boast is you. Chorus CCLI Song #5174122; Words & Music by J. Kauflin; 2009 Sovereign Grace Praise (BMI); CCLI License #152421 MY WORTH IS NOT IN WHAT I OWN My worth is not in what I own, not in the strength of flesh and bone; But in the costly wounds of love at the cross. My worth is not in skill or name, in win or lose, in pride or shame; But in the blood of Christ that flowed at the cross. Chorus: I rejoice in my Redeemer, greatest treasure, wellspring of my soul. I will trust in him, no other. My soul is satisfied in him alone. As summer flow rs we fade and die; fame, youth, and beauty hurry by; But life eternal calls to us at the cross. I will not boast in wealth, or might, or human wisdom s fleeting light; But I will boast in knowing Christ at the cross. Chorus Two wonders here that I confess: my worth and my unworthiness; My value fixed, my ransom paid at the cross. Chorus 2x My soul is satisfied in him alone. CCLI Song #7024758; Words & Music by G. Kendrick, K. & K. Getty; 2014 Gettymusic, Make Way Music; Admin. by Music Services, Inc.; CCLI License #152421 2

We acknowledge our need of forgiveness and renewal through the cleansing blood of Jesus CONFESSION OF SIN Eternal and merciful Father, we come to you in need of forgiveness. In our sin and rebellion, we have pursued empty living in our own kingdoms rather than lavish living in yours. We have tried to cover our sin with the scent of earthly power, riches, and success. Forgive us, O Lord. Confront us with your grace so that we may be filled with your joy. Use our ransomed lives to be the aroma of Christ to a dying world. By the power of your Spirit, lead us in good works so that you may be glorified. We pray all this in the name of our Savior and King Jesus Christ. Amen. God reminds us of his promise of forgiveness in Christ ASSURANCE OF PARDON EZEKIEL 36:25-27 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. 3

We enjoy and extend the peace of the gospel to one another GIVING OF THE PEACE Leader: Because Christ has cleansed us from our sins, we now have peace with God and peace with one another. May the peace of Christ be with you! People: And also with you! God gives us a visible sign to confirm his covenant promise, and we respond with faith in him SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM SANCTUARY 9:00 Joelle Marie, covenant daughter of Anthony & Emily Halley 10:45 Bennett Grace, covenant daughter of Douglas & Jennifer Hilderbrand Jordan Grey, covenant daughter of Alexander & Jaime Pino FELLOWSHIP HALL 10:45 Ann Lauren, covenant daughter of Jonathan & Ryan Miller William Jonathan, covenant son of Jonathan & Ryan Miller Grant Ryan, covenant son of Jonathan & Ryan Miller We give thanks to God and bring our needs to him CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER You can join us in praying for our community and world this evening; the Flock Notes are on page 9 in your worship guide. If you would like to submit a prayer request, fill out the prayer request card and place it in the offering plate as you exit the Sanctuary. Please also fill out the Keeping Connected pad and pass it down your row and back. If you would like someone to pray with you after the service, men and women from our leadership will be available in the front. 4

During the following song, children ages K - 3rd grade are dismissed to Sunday School, which meets in the McLean Room; turn right as you exit the Sanctuary and walk down the hall. We ready our hearts to receive the preaching of God s word SONG OF PREPARATION HE WILL HOLD ME FAST When I fear my faith will fail, Christ will hold me fast; When the tempter would prevail, he will hold me fast; I could never keep my hold through life s fearful path; For my love is often cold; he must hold me fast. Chorus: He will hold me fast, he will hold me fast; For my Savior loves me so, he will hold me fast. Those he saves are his delight, Christ will hold me fast; Precious in his holy sight, he will hold me fast; He ll not let my soul be lost; his promises shall last; Bought by him at such a cost, he will hold me fast. Chorus For my life he bled and died, Christ will hold me fast; Justice has been satisfied; he will hold me fast; Raised with him to endless life, he will hold me fast, Til our faith is turned to sight, when he comes at last. Chorus 2x CCLI Song #7016161; Words by A. Habershon & M. Merker; Music by M. Merker; Orch. by P. Campbell; 2013 Getty Music Publishing and Matt Merker; CCLI License #152421 God speaks to us through the reading of his word SCRIPTURE READING TITUS (PEW BIBLE P. 998) Leader: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God! 5

God speaks to us through the preaching of his word SERMON DIFFERENCE MAKER 1. It s a Wonderful Life We respond to God s word through song SONG OF SENDING IN CHRIST ALONE In Christ alone, my hope is found, he is my light, my strength, my song; This Cornerstone, this solid Ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease. My Comforter, my All in All, here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone, who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones he came to save. Til on that cross as Jesus died the wrath of God was satisfied. For every sin on him was laid; here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground his body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain. Then bursting forth in glorious Day, up from the grave he rose again! And as he stands in victory, sin s curse has lost its grip on me; For I am his and he is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the pow r of Christ in me; From life s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from his hand; Til he returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I ll stand. No power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from his hand; Til he returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I ll stand. CCLI Song # 3350395; Words & Music by K. Getty & S. Townend; 2001 Thankyou Music (Admin. by EMI Christian Music Publishing); CCLI License #152421 6

God sends us out with his blessing BENEDICTION 2 CORINTHIANS 13:14 Leader: May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. People: Amen. Thanks be to God! Alleluia! We go out with joy and purpose in the Lord POSTLUDE IN CHRIST ALONE As recipients of his grace, we give back to God a portion of what is already his GIVING OF OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS We want to be a generous community. In response to the grace we ve received, we seek to give cheerfully, diligently, proportionately, and sacrificially (2 Cor 8:1-15).
