GOD ENCOUNTERS HIS PEOPLE THROUGH HIS WORD 1 st Reading Genesis 12:1-9 Read by Oliver Smith Now the LORD said to Abram, "Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. Abram took his wife Sarai and his brother's son Lot, and all the possessions that they had gathered, and the persons whom they had acquired in Haran; and they set forth to go to the land of Canaan. When they had come to the land of Canaan, Abram passed through the land to the place at Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. Then the LORD appeared to Abram, and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." So he built there an altar to the LORD, who had appeared to him. From there he moved on to the hill country on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to the LORD and invoked the name of the LORD. And Abram journeyed on by stages toward the Negeb. Psalm 105:1-9 Led by Oliver Smith [M] O give thanks to the LORD, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples. [W] Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wonderful works. [M] Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. [W] Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually. [M] Remember the wonderful works he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he has uttered, [W] O offspring of his servant Abraham, children of Jacob, his chosen ones. [M] He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth. [W] He is mindful of his covenant forever, of the word that he commanded, for a thousand generations, the covenant that he made with Abraham, his sworn promise to Isaac, CHORAL OFFERING: O LORD, MY GOD Worship Choir By Regi Stone 2nd Reading Hebrews 11:8-12 Read by Nathan Su By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to set out for a place that he was to receive as an inheritance; and he set out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he stayed for a time in the land he had been promised, as in a foreign land, living in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he looked forward to the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. By faith he received power of procreation, even though he was too old and Sarah herself was barren because he considered him faithful who had promised. Therefore from one person, and this one as good as dead, descendants were born, "as many as the stars of heaven and as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore."

[P] Lift up your heart and receive the Holy Gospel... Glory to you, O Lord. (spoken) Gospel Luke 10:1-9 Read by Pastor Bob McKee After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. He said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go on your way. See, I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one on the road. Whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this house!' And if anyone is there who shares in peace, your peace will rest on that person; but if not, it will return to you. Remain in the same house, eating and drinking whatever they provide, for the laborer deserves to be paid. Do not move about from house to house. Whenever you enter a town and its people welcome you, eat what is set before you; cure the sick who are there, and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.' [P] This is the Gospel of our Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. (spoken) MESSAGE: ABRAM S CALL Pastor Bob McKee SERMON SONG: THE STAND APOSTLES CREED I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. (*universal) GATHERING OUR TITHES & OFFERINGS (All members and guests, please sign in on the form in the pew pads when it is passed to you. Prayer requests are collected when plates are brought forward.) STEWARDSHIP VIDEO: TALENT PRESENTATION OF OUR GIFTS Let us pray... Blessed are you, O Lord our God, maker of all things. Through your goodness you have blessed us with these gifts. With them we offer ourselves to your service and

dedicate our lives to the care and redemption of all that you have made, for the sake of him who offered himself for us, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS (Please stand) [P] Blessed be the holy Trinity, the one who fashions us, the one who heals us, the one who reforms us again and again. Amen. [P] [P] [P] Let us confess our sin, calling for God's transforming power. Source of all life, we confess that we have not allowed your grace to set us free. We fear that we are not good enough. We hear your word of love freely given to us, yet we expect others to earn it. We turn the church inward, rather than moving it outward. Forgive us. Stir us. Reform us to be a church powered by love, willing to speak for what is right, act for what is just, and seek the healing of your whole creation. Amen. God hears our cry and sends the Spirit to change us and to empower our lives in the world. Our sins are forgiven, God s love is unconditional, and we are raised up as God s people who will always be made new, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. WORDS OF INSTITUTION THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. LAMB OF GOD (music found on page 154) Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; grant us peace, grant us peace. COMMUNION DISTRIBUTION - THE EUCHARIST (be seated) Our Lord Jesus is the host of his table. He invites all to come to him. Those who are baptized and believe in our Lord s presence...in, with, and under the bread and wine... are invited to commune by intinction. If you are not communing, please receive a blessing of the day. We come to his table via the center aisle, returning to our seats via

the side aisles. If you are unable to come forward but wish the gifts Christ has for you, please notify an usher, and the servers will come to you. COMMUNION SOLO: SHOW US CHRIST Lanisa Keith (By Doug Plank & Bob Kauflin) POST COMMUNION BLESSING [P] The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in his grace. Amen. (music is located in red hymnal service music hymn #207) Thankful hearts and voices raise; tell ev ryone what God has done. Let ev ryone who seeks the Lord rejoice and bear the name of Christ. Send us with your promises and lead your people forth in joy with SHOUTS of thanksgiving. Alleluia. Alleluia. SENDING SONG: LET US TALENTS AND TONGUES EMPLOY ELW #674 (Red Hymnal) BENEDICTION (Forgiven and fed, we are empowered to return to the world in service. Turn your attention to the recessing cross of Christ, as he leads us back to the world with his final good word God s Benediction.) THE DISMISSAL Our worship continues; our service is just begun. Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. (with the joy of Christ) THANKS BE TO GOD!
