Learning Record Making the best use of these units A copy of the Learning Record should be distributed to each learning support and language support student. Students should: 1. Write the subject and topic on the record. 2. Tick off/date the different statements as they complete activities. 3. Keep the record in their files along with the work produced for this unit. 4. Use this material to support mainstream subject learning. Introduction of a topic or activity should ensure that students understand what they are doing and why. Many students will have some difficulty in understanding both the language in the activity and the instructions/purpose for carrying out the activity. You can create your personal teaching resource by printing these units in full and filing them by subject in a large ring binder. The Jews refer to the founding fathers of as the patriarchs. The most important patriarchs were Abraham and Moses. According to Genesis 12:1-2, God called on to lead his people, first known as the Hebrews and later as the Jews, to leave Mesopotamia (modern Iraq) and settle in the Promised (modern Israel). It took the Jews another two hundred years before they finally defeated those who also laid claim to the Promised Land. They established the kingdom of Israel (meaning God strives ) with its capital Jerusalem, where they built a temple to house the Ark of the Covenant (a casket containing the stone tablets on which the Ten Commandments had been written). The Tenakh teaches that God is the all-knowing, all powerful creator of the universe who is completely good and loving. The Hebrew name for God is Yahweh, but out of respect this name is not spoken. Instead, God is usually referred to as Adonai, meaning Lord. 1.
