COL 1:1a Paul, 1b [...] 1c and Timothy our brother, 2a To the holy and faithful brethren 2b [...] 2c at Colossae: Grace to you and peace 2d [...]. 1:3a We always thank God, the Father 3b [...] 3c when we pray for you, 4a because we have heard of your faith 4b [...] 4c and of the love which you have for all the saints, COL 1:1b an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, 2b in Christ 2d from God our Father 3b of our Lord Jesus Christ, 4b in Christ Jesus 5 because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the good news 6 which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and growing- -so among yourselves, from the day you heard and understood the grace of God in truth, 7a as you learned it from Epaphras our beloved fellow servant. He is a faithful minister 7b [...] 7c on our behalf 7b of Christ 8 and has made known to us your love in the Spirit. 9 And so, from the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10a to lead a life worthy 10b [...], 10b of the Lord Page 1

10c fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. 11 May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. 13a He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of 13b [...] 13c his love, 13b the Son of 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. 15-22a [...] 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation; Page 2 16 for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities (2 Enoch 20:1), all things were created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. 19 For in him all the fulness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

21 And you, who once were estranged and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, 22b in order to present you holy and blameless and irreproachable before him, 22a he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, 23 provided that you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the good news which you heard, which has been preached to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister. 24-25a 25b according to the divine office which was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known, 24 Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking, in Christ's afflictions, for the sake of his body, that is, the church, 25a of which I became a minister 26 the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now made manifest to his saints. 27a To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, 27b [...] 27c the hope of glory. (Col 1:25-27 = Eph 3:2, 5-6) 28a Him we proclaim, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man mature 28b [...]. 27b which is Christ in you, 28b in Christ 29 For this I toil, striving with all the energy which he mightily inspires within me. 2:1 For I want you to know how greatly I Page 3

strive for you, and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not seen my face, 2a that their hearts may be encouraged as they are knit together in love, to have all the riches of assured understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, 2b [...] 2:2b of Christ, 3 in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I say this in order that no one may delude you with beguiling speech. 5a For though I am absent in body, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the firmness of your faith 5b [...]. 6a As therefore you received 6b [...], 6c so live 6d [...], 7a rooted and built up 7b [...] 7c and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. 8a See to it that no one makes a prey of you by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elementary things of the world, 8b [...]. 9-12 [...] 5b in Christ 6b Christ Jesus the Lord 6c in him 7b in him 8b and not according to Christ 9 For in him the whole fulness of deity dwells bodily, Page 4 10 and you have come to fulness of life in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. 11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of flesh in the

13 And you, who were dead in trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, circumcision of Christ; 12 and you were buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. 14-15 [...] 14 having canceled the bond which stood against us with its legal demands; this he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the principalities and powers and made a public example of them, triumphing over them in him. 16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a sabbath. 17a These are only a shadow of what is to come; 17b [...]. 17b but the substance belongs to Christ 18 Let no one disqualify you, insisting on self-abasement and worship of angels, taking his stand on visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God. (Col 2:19 = Eph 4:15-16) 20a If 20b [...] 20c you died to the elementary things of the world, why do you live as if you still belonged to the world? Why do you submit to regulations, 20b with Christ Page 5

21 "Do not handle, Do not taste, Do not touch" 22 (referring to things which all perish as they are used), according to human precepts and doctrines? 23 These have indeed an appearance of wisdom in promoting rigor of devotion and self-abasement and severity to the body, but they are of no value in checking the indulgence of the flesh. 3:1a If then you 1b [...], 1c seek the things that are of God above, 1d [...]. 3:1b have been raised with Christ 1d where Christ is, seated at the right hand 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3a For you have died, and your life is hid 3b [...] 3c in God. 4 [...] 5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 3b with Christ 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming. 7 In these you once walked, when you lived in them. 8 But now put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and foul talk from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old nature with its practices Page 6

10 and have put on the new nature, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. (Col 3:9-10 = Eph 4:22, 24) 11a Here there cannot be Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free man, 11b [...]. 11b but Christ is all, and in all 12 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience, 13a forbearing one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; 13b [...]. 13b as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15a And let the peace 15b [...] 15c rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. 16a Let the word 16b [...] 16c dwell in you richly, teach and admonish one another in all wisdom, and sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17a And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything 17b [...], 17c giving thanks to God the Father 17d [...]. 15b of Christ 16b of Christ 17b in the name of the Lord Jesus 17d through him 18 Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in (the) LORD. Page 7

19 Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases (the) LORD. 21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. 22 Slaves, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing (the) LORD. 23a Whatever your task, work heartily, 23b [...], 24a knowing that from (the) LORD you will receive the inheritance as your reward 24b [...]. 23b as serving the Lord and not men 24b you are serving the Lord Christ 25 For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality. 4:1 Masters, treat your slaves justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven. (Col 3:18-4:1 = Eph 5:22-6:9) 2 Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving; 3a and pray for us also, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery 3b [...], 3c on account of which I am in prison, 4:3b of Christ 4 that I may make it clear, as I ought to speak. 5 Conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. 6 Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know Page 8

how you ought to answer every one. 4:7 Tychicus will tell you all about my affairs; he is a beloved brother and faithful minister and fellow servant in (the) LORD. 8 I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are and that he may encourage your hearts, (Col 4:7-8 = Eph 6:21-22) 9 and with him Onesimus, the faithful and beloved brother, who is one of yourselves. They will tell you of everything that has taken place here. 10 Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, and Mark the cousin of Barnabas (concerning whom you have received instructions--if he comes to you, receive him), 11 and Jesus who is called Justus, men of the circumcision. These are my fellow workers for the kingdom of God, and they have been a single comfort to me. 12a Epaphras, who is one of yourselves, a servant 12b [...], 12c greets you, always remembering you earnestly in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God. 12b of Christ Jesus 13 For I bear him witness that he has worked hard for you and for those in Laodicea and in Hierapolis. 14 Luke the beloved physician and Demas greet you. 15 Give my greetings to the brethren at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house. Page 9

16 And when this letter has been read among you, have it read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and see that you read also the letter from Laodicea. 17 And say to Archippus, "See that you fulfil the ministry which you have received in (the) LORD." 18 I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. Remember my fetters. Grace be with you. Page 10
