Easter Sunday, April 5 Easter is BIG! Help make it great! Over 1000 people celebrated Easter at firstchristian in 2014. We can expect more this Easter on April 5, 2015. This is a once a year opportunity to share Jesus with this many people. Here are ways you can help: Volunteer during one service and attend another. Some of our volunteer children s workers will be out of town with family on Easter. If you can help, this is a great time to start! Park far away. Leave the best spots for guests and the less mobile! This will also reduce traffic problems. Greet everyone with a welcoming smile. Smiles are contagious and set the right mood for celebrating Easter! Show up early, sit near the front, and slide to the middle of the rows. This makes it easier for others to find seats. Thank you for joining together to share the message of Easter with those God is drawing to himself and firstchristian. Many people will be here for the first time. We can help make it be the first of many. Easter is BIG! Help make it great! FCC Opportunities Sunday Morning Bible Studies: FCC has two Adult Bible Fellowship classes that meet on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. Both classes have recently completed their curriculum and will start a new curriculum after Easter on April 12. Now would be a great time to join them on Sunday morning. In the Chapel at 8 a.m., you will find an Adult Bible Fellowship that has completed a study of the entire Bible from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21 (Congratulations). On April 12, they will begin a study about the variety of church denominations with the major emphasis on Biblical church doctrine. In the Fuel Room at 8 a.m., you will find an Adult Bible Fellowship that is doing a chronological study of the letters of Paul. This class has completed a verse-by-verse study of 1 Corinthians and will move into 2 Corinthians on April 12 following Easter. If you want to fellowship with a great group of people while studying the Bible, an Adult Bible Fellowship may be the right fit for you. Join us on April 12 at 8 a.m. Looking for a Good Movie? A Doubly Powerful Day This Sunday we celebrate Jesus Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem. They were ready to crown Jesus king, expecting him to free them from the Roman rule. We now know that Jesus came to do so much more. This Sunday we celebrate Jesus, King of Kings, our Lord and Savior. Sunday also brings our First Fruits Offering. This is our first opportunity to give to the Thrive Vision with the best offering we can bring. Our giving is an act of corporate worship, believing that God can do so much more than all we ask or imagine. So far 161 families and individuals have committed to Thrive, over $1.25M! If you have not had the opportunity to join Thrive and make your commitment and wish to do so, there will be commitment cards available in the seat pockets and at the Connection Center. You can drop them in the offering or in the basket at the Connection Center. You can also make your commitment through www.firstchristiannorfolk.org under the Thrive link. These are exciting times to be a part of our church! I am eager to see how God will use us to bless northeast Nebraska as we Thrive! One thing we learn from Palm Sunday is to not underestimate Jesus. Expectantly, Congratulations on your Baby Dedications Last Sunday, March 22, we had the honor of dedicating the grandchildren of Jay and Heidi Beltz. Hunter Noel, son of Trey Wheeler and Jade Beltz. Hunter is also welcomed by his sister, Ella. Jaxyn Jay Roy, son of Lucas Paustain and Erika Beltz. Ava JaNahn Christine, daughter of Dustin Ellwanger and Sarrah Beltz. The parents dedicate themselves to raise their children to know and love Jesus. Os Guiness Views on a Global Church In his book Renaissance: the Power of the Gospel However Dark the Times, Os Guiness states that the Christian faith is the world's first global religion. In his second chapter titled "Grand Global Tasks", he points out that the Christian church is on the "verge of a historic moment in the global era". Some current facts and observations he points out include: Jesus has the greatest number of followers than anyone on earth. The Christian faith is the fastest growing (and most persecuted) faith in the world. The global era represents the greatest opportunity for the church since the apostles as well as the greatest challenges. Most of this recent growth has occurred in the pre modern world. Most of the churches problems are in its captivity in the advanced modern world - mainly in the West. Since the Christian faith has been the main faith of the Western World, and the Western World has been the main carrier of globalization, Os Guinness sees three major tasks of the global church: 1.Prepare the pre modern churches (what he calls the Global South). 2.Win back the Western world (from seduction of power, money, greed, arrogance, busyness, obsession with statistics, etc.) 3.Contribute to the human future. (True Christian vision and Christian solutions provide for the common good of all.) Our 9 Core Missions supported at First Christian Church are in the 21st Century "front lines" to bring "release to the captives", reach the "least of these", and "make disciples" of all. Each of our missions falls into one of the three major tasks of a global church identified by Guinness. If you have not already done so, I encourage you to connect with one or more of our 9 Core Missions and learn about them, pray for them, communicate with them, and support them financially. You can access more information by going to www.firstchristiannorfolk.org and clicking on "Missions". You can also give by designating a specific mission on the offering envelope or just write "missions" in general and the money will be divided among our 9 Core Missions. Your support is key in making our church an active part in God's plan for growing His Global Church.
