Use a mug for coffee and a reusable container for water. Carry lunch in reusable foods containers. MERCY CORNER Our featured Corporal Work of Mercy for August is Comfort the sick. Bring a nutritious bedtime snack to Ronald McDonald House to share with families. Our featured Spiritual Work of Mercy for August is Counsel the doubtful. Go on retreat. It s a way to be merciful to yourself and also to the people around you, who know you need to go on retreat. If you cannot do that, at least try to make a day, or evening, of recollection. Our Colossians virtue for August is Kindness Scripture: An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. Proverbs 12:25 Consider Trying: Don t reward your children for every act of kindness, such as washing dishes after dinner. We should expect our children to help around the house, and only reward uncommon acts of kindness. Follow up with talking to your children about kind and unkind acts they see on tv and about acts of justice and injustice they might witness or hear about in the news. SHORT-TERM PARISH VOLUNTEER GARDENING HELP NEEDED! PLEASE CALL ASAP! Gloria Johnson, who does such beautiful job of taking care of the Shrine garden and the rectory garden, will be unable to work her magical beauty for a couple of months. Hence, we are looking for a volunteer or volunteers who can take over in the interim. The Rose Garden is covered. We just need help with the gardens and pots on both sides of the Blessed Mother s Shrine and the rectory office garden. These will need weeding and watering a couple of times a week. If you can give us any amount of time, please contact our Business Manager, Don Reimer, at 254-6233 x 309. Thank you, dear Gloria, and all volunteers for helping us keep our gardens of God s beauty so lovely!

ST. HELEN CHURCH RIVERSIDE, OHIO AUGUST 21, 2016 CIVILIZE IT: FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP IN THE YEAR OF MERCY The question: How do we live in the Year of Mercy when it s an election year? is one to which the Civilize It Movement can offer an answer. Civilize It is a non-partisan response developed in the Archdiocese and designed to guide Catholics on how they can be civil and engaged during this election year while responding to Jesus call to love our neighbor. The presentation will look at how the Church forms its conscience through Scripture and Church teaching as articulated in the U.S. bishops statement, Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship. It will strengthen Catholics to call for more civility, clarity and compassion in electoral politics and from each other. The Catholic Social Action and Family and Respect Life Offices will be offering the Civilize It: Faithful Citizenship in the Year of Mercy presentation at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 6245 Wilmington Pike, Centerville, in the St. Pope John Paul II Room Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 7-9 p.m. This is a free presentation. CREDIT UNION NEWS Guess who opened the very first account at the St. Helen Federal Credit Union 60 years ago? That s right, our founding pastor Monsignor James Krusling! He knew that the Credit Union would be a great resource for his parishioners: a place where they could save to build their dreams and receive financial assistance to help fulfill them. We hope we have been able to help your family in whatever way we could whether it was with a car loan for the newest driver in the household, a home equity loan for the addition to the ever-growing family, a savings account for the family vacation of a lifetime! Stop by the Credit Union today to see the original card filled out by Monsignor Krusling for Account #1 and share your success story with us, or open your account today so that we may start you on your path to fulfilling your dreams!
