Welcome to Parkview Church! Hey everyone, Welcome to the Fall Kickoff! A great chance for the Parkview Central Campus family to all come together in one service together to celebrate who Jesus is and what He has done for us, we will also enjoy eating, hanging out, and watching our kids have fun flopping around on inflatable games! If you are new to Parkview we especially welcome you and hope you have a great time with us today! Be sure to stop by the Connect Center inside if you d like more information on our church and the many ministry opportunities we offer. Our prayer for you is that you would experience the hope and healing power of the Gospel the Good News that Jesus is for us and with us which He proved by dying in our place to give us new life! We d love it if you joined us in our pursuit of learning more about who Jesus is as we study the Gospel of Mark this fall and that we all would experience the life He died for us to have! Doug Schillinger Leader Pastor

History of Parkview Church 1932 1947 1953 Started spring of 1932 (85 years ago) as an independent Sunday school program to meet the needs of children in close proximity to a mobile home park in the Coralville area. They originally met in the Coralville Town Hall. The evangelistic outreach to children then spread to adults in the initiation of The Coralville Gospel Church (the first of 4 different names). The Coralville Bible Church became associated with the Evangelical Free Church of America and changed its name to the Coralville Evangelical Free Church. After renting facilities for years, land was purchased on 5th Street in Coralville and developed into a new 250-seat facility 21 years after the church began as a Sunday school outreach!

1983 1997 2016 Our 24/7 College Ministry launched and has had a great impact on the students attending the University of Iowa. The Upper Room ministry became The Spot and the ministry moved its location from the Central Campus to Pepperwood Plaza in January. Land was purchased at our current site with the first services taking place on March 10 under our current name Parkview Evangelical Free Church. Numerous additions have been added to the original footprint. We have endured two floods: 1993 Spending 10 weeks in the City High Auditorium; and 2008 Spending 10 weeks at the West High Auditorium. Multi-site locations began with an East Campus meeting at the Pepperwood Plaza location in September.

The Crown and the Cross A Study of Mark s Gospel INTRODUCING JESUS CHRIST, SON OF GOD Mark 1:1-15 Pastor Doug Schillinger September 10, 2017 I. WHO IS JESUS? Jesus Identity The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, Mark 1:1 Key Words: Gospel: An official announcement of the coming of a King Christ: Anointed King Son of God Key Witnesses: The Prophets John the Baptist God the Father and the Holy Spirit QUESTION: Who do you say that Jesus is? II. WHY DID HE COME? Jesus Mission For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. Mark 10:45 The significance of Jesus baptism The significance of Jesus temptation QUESTION: How do you need Jesus to rescue or restore you? III. WHAT DOES HE WANT US TO DO? Jesus Invitation Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel. Mark 1:14b-15 QUESTION: What does repentance and belief look like in your life this week?

Mark 1:1-15 1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 2 As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way, 3 the voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight, 4 John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 6 Now John was clothed with camel's hair and wore a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And he preached, saying, After me comes he who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. 9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven, You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased. 12 The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13 And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him. 14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.
