Pre-Service Meditation & Prayer Psalm 130 (pg. 153, red hymnal) Almighty, every-living God, grant that I may gladly hear Your Word and that all my worship may be acceptable to You; through Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen. + + + ORDER OF WORSHIP + + + WE PREPARE TO MEET OUR LORD HYMN: 11 Red Hymnal Safely Through Another Week THE INVOCATION We invoke ( call upon ) the name of our Triune God. Pastor (P): In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit! Congregation (C): Amen. OUR CONFESSION OF SINS P: Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God, our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Our help is in the name of the Lord. C: Who made heaven and earth. P: I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord. C: And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. P: Almighty God, our Maker and Redeemer, we poor sinners confess unto You that we are by nature sinful and unclean and that we have sinned against You by thought, word, and deed. Therefore we flee for refuge to Your infinite mercy, seeking and imploring Your grace for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. C: O most merciful God, who has given Your only-begotten Son to die for us, have mercy upon us and for His sake grant us remission of all our sins; and by Your Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of You and of Your will and true obedience to Your Word, to the end that by Your grace we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. P: Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, has had mercy upon us and has given His only Son to die for us, and for His sake forgives us all our sins. To all who believe on His name He gives the privilege of being children of God and has promised them His Holy Spirit. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved. Grant this, Lord, unto us all. C: Amen. 2

WE PRAISE OUR LORD RESPONSIVE READING PSALM 130 P: Out of the depths C: I have cried to You, O LORD; P: Lord, hear my voice! C: Let Your ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications. P: If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, C: O Lord, who could stand? P: But there is forgiveness with You C: That You may be feared. P: I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, C: And in His word I do hope. P: My soul waits for the Lord More than those who watch for the morning C: Yes, more than those who watch for the morning. P: O Israel, hope in the LORD; For with the LORD there is mercy, C: And with Him is abundant redemption. P: And He shall redeem Israel C: From all his iniquities. P: Glory be to God! C: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, forevermore. Amen. Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us. All glory, praise, and blessing to God the holy Trinity, for planting and sustaining our faith in Him who sets us free, on whom our trust is founded, our house built on a rock, our life by grace surrounded, our Shepherd s precious flock, dear children to Him clinging, who welcomed once again, join saints and angels singing, Amen, Amen, Amen! P: The Lord be with you. C: And with your spirit. P: Let us pray C: Amen. 3

OUR LORD SPEAKS TO US OLD TESTAMENT READING JOB 38: 1-11 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said: 2 "Who is this who darkens counsel By words without knowledge? 3 Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question yosu, and you shall answer Me. 4 "Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. 5 Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? 6 To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, 7 When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy? 8 "Or who shut in the sea with doors, When it burst forth and issued from the womb; 9 When I made the clouds its garment, And thick darkness its swaddling band; 10 When I fixed My limit for it, And set bars and doors; 11 When I said, `This far you may come, but no farther, And here your proud waves must stop!' C: Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! GRADE SCHOOL CHOIR: FOR THE BEAUTY OF THE EARTH NEW TESTAMENT READING 2 CORINTHIANS 5: 14-21 C: Glory be to You, O Lord! For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 15 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again. 16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. C: Praise be to You, O Christ! OUR CONFESSION OF FAITH THE APOSTOLIC CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was 4

crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. HYMN: 327 Red Hymnal Out of the Deep I Call SERMON MEDITATION 1 KINGS 19: 1-9A NIV sermons and services online at www.immanuelmankato.org Now Ahab told Jezebel everything Elijah had done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. 2 So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, "May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them." 3 Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, 4 while he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, LORD," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors." 5 Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, "Get up and eat." 6 He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. 7 The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you." 8 So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. 9 There he went into a cave and spent the night. Beneath the Juniper Tree Mr. Russ Schmitt (Saturday); Mr. Daniel Pfeiffer (Sunday) Sermon Note sheets available in the narthex WE OFFER OURSELVES TO OUR LORD OFFERTORY C: Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence; and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your free Spirit. Amen. 5
