Our First Communion program is designed for children in grades 1 and 2. The Elementary program is for children in grades 3 through 5. The Pre-Confirmation Program is for students in grades 6 and 7. The Confirmation program is for students in grades 8 and 9, but any high school student is welcome. Please call the Parish Center for information regarding any of our programs.

Within the next week all of our active parishioners will receive a letter outlining the parish Annual Financial Report of the parish for the fiscal year which ended on June 30, 2018. This report is a summary of all our income and expenses for the past year. (A more detailed report can be seen at any time by contacting the Parish Office going to our Parish Website.) This report is an accounting of your generosity to the parish and my stewardship of the parish for the past year. It is very difficult to summarize the details of a $600,000 a year non-profit corporation, but suffice it to say that nothing would be possible without the extraordinary generosity of our parishioners who enable us to do the good work that we do here. Here are some of the ways your contributions are doing a great deal of good. In addition to our present out-reach ministries to the Haitian Project and the Scholarship Fund, we will continue our Partnership of Charity with the Emanuel House Homeless Shelter in South Providence. This will be made possible by the increase revenue we anticipate from the Increased Giving Appeal and, because the Lord has asked us to help the poor. As you give a portion of your income to us, we will give a portion of our income to the homeless at the Emanuel Shelter. Our total cost of the Parish Religious Education Program, which includes salaries and office expenses as well as textbooks and supplies for 248 children and adults came to a total of $105,000, while income from registration was only $14,400. Our parish provided tuition assistance to many children from the parish who attend local Catholic Elementary Schools totaling $27,000, and we raised another $14,400 for the Parish Scholarship Fund and our various Parish Ministries. Our parishioners gave in gifts and pledges over $85,000 this year for the Catholic Charity Fund Appeal, the first time we have reached our parish goal in 3 years! While there is much good news to share with you, there is also a serious matter that we as a parish must contend with. This year we are anticipating a deficit of $176,500 in our budget for this fiscal year. While this is a significant improvement over the deficit we had last year, it remains a cause for concern for the overall fiscal well-being of our Parish. We continue to struggle in meeting the obligation of our $14,042 monthly payment on the principal and interest of our parish loan. Our total indebtedness to the Diocese now stands at $2,700.000. This is not a good situation, for it indicates that the number of families joining the parish is growing while the number of families supporting the parish is declining. We are asking you now to consider an increase to the gift you give each week through the Budget Envelopes or your ACH account. Once again this year, we are also asking that you be generous to our Annual Collection, which begins soon. Given our present situation, this collection is more important than it ever was so that we can assure the financial stability of our parish. Quite frankly, we have nowhere else to turn - the parish is only as strong as those who support it, and at the present time we are truly in need of everyone s help. I am very grateful to our wonderful parish staff who keeps the our parish operating so efficiently. And, I thank the members of the Finance Council, the parish Auditors and the Parish Trustees for their valuable guidance and professional help. My thanks go out to those of you who have been so very generous to us. Fr. Jack Crisis in the Church On Sunday, Sept. 16 th we had a very helpful open meeting of parishioners who wanted to come together to speak about the latest sexual abuse crisis our Church. Many honestly expressed how they feel and also asked that we offer more opportunities like this one to others who would like to express their concerns and feelings and to share opinions and questions about the future of the Church. These Meetings will be held on Tuesday, October 16 th at 7 PM and on Thursday, October 25 th at 7 PM both in the Parish Center. Our purpose is not to correct, to judge or to excuse anyone, but to listen honestly to each other. All are welcome. 2

Unlike many other attractions, the scares at the Haunted Labyrinth present the element of surprise, rather than blood or guts, goblins and witches. We are looking for teens in grade 8-12 who can come to be part of the 'scare team' on Friday, October 19th. Please go online to our website at https://www.stbernardnk.org/faithformation/youth-ministry to fill out the permission slip and find specific information for the event. Permission slips due by Monday, October 15th. Any questions please contact Christina at sbc.teenff@gmail.com 5
