USA / En Route Day 2 ~ Monday, December 10, 2018 Tel Aviv / Galilee Arrive Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. Meet, assist and begin the journey with a brief tour of modern Tel Aviv, Israel s largest city directly on the Mediterranean Sea. Continue traveling up the Israeli coastline to the Galilee. Light Chanukah candles together in celebration of the last night of Chanukah this evening. Caesar Premier, Tiberias (D) Day 3 ~ Tuesday, December 11, 2018 Galilee Begin the day joining together for a special service on the waters of the Sea of Galilee. Disembark and continue to Capernaum, residence of Jesus during his ministry in the Galilee and the location of several of his miracles. Visit the ancient synagogue. Onto Magdala, home of Mary Magdalene where a newly excavated first century synagogue was discovered, currently the oldest in the Galilee and one of only seven from that period in all of Israel. This afternoon, proceed to the border outpost to meet Israeli soldiers who keep Israel safe. Caesar Premier, Tiberias (B,D) Day 4 ~ Wednesday, December 12, 2018 Galilee Morning tour of the Golan Heights, seeing the former Syrian fortifications and understanding the strategic importance of this area. Next, onto the Village of Katzrin, capital of the Golan. Visit the remains of a stately Talmudic-era synagogue. Continue to Kfar Kedem Biblical Village, a recreated ancient Galilean village that enables you to "touch the past". Experience being a shepherd. Herd the sheep into their pens for shearing and milking. Make goat cheese in the ancient Galilean fashion. Plow the fields and bring in the harvest to the village threshing floor. Then grind the flour and bake your own pita bread. Join a donkey caravan heading to the Galilean hills. Conclude with a feast lunch in the shepherd's tent. The afternoon is spent in Safed, one of the Four Holy Cities according to tradition and known for its mystical atmosphere and Kabbalistic studies. This town was a center of 16 th century mysticism and is still a magnet for spiritual 'searchers'. Absorb the special ambience of contrasts, where ancient synagogues and modern art galleries exist side by side. Explore the narrow, winding alleys. Visit some of the beautiful synagogues and browse through the artists workshops and galleries found in the flourishing artists' quarter. Safed is also famous for its art of beautiful candles. Make Shabbat candles, followed by an opportunity to meet with a Sofer Stam a Jewish scribe specializing in ancient Hebrew writing. Caesar Premier, Tiberias (B,L,D) Day 5 ~ Thursday, December 13, 2018 Galilee / This morning, drive to Caesarea Maritima, the Roman capital of Judea on the Via Maris. Here was the site of the conversion of Cornelius and the location from which Paul set sail on his journey to Rome. View the beautiful restored Roman Theater, the ruins of the ancient town, harbor and aqueduct. Onto Mount Carmel, with spectacular views of Northern Israel, near the spot where Elijah confronted the prophets of Baal. Begin the journey up to around Nazareth, the boyhood home of Jesus. Stop en route at a Yeshiva, a religious Jewish school that focuses on the study of traditional texts, for a special workshop on teaching the Torah, the Five Books of Moses, through song (pending confirmation). Enjoy a welcome service reciting a Shehechiyanu blessing atop Mount Scopus upon arrival to.
Day 6 ~ Friday, December 14, 2018 View the beautiful panorama from atop the Mount of Olives this morning, the site of Jesus ascension to heaven and His future second coming. Continue with a visit to the Garden of Gethsemane. Experience Ir David, the City of David, the place where it all began, learning of King David s conquest of the Jebusite city. Participate in an exciting journey both above and below ground through excavations, fortresses and passageways, walking through the Canaanite tunnel. Continue with communion at the Garden Tomb. Onto to Machne Yehuda Market to experience how ites prepare for Shabbat. As the sun sets, light Shabbat candles, welcoming the holy Sabbath and honoring the Shabbat Queen. Following, gather at the Western Wall (Kotel) for the traditional bringing in of the Sabbath. Enjoy a special Shabbat dinner with a local host family this evening. Day 7 ~ Saturday, December 15, 2018 Today s full day begins with a drive into the Judean wilderness to Qasr Al Yehud, a special baptismal site and the site where it is believed that the Children of Israel crossed the Jordan. Onto Qumran, overlooking the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Continue to Masada, the mountaintop ruin of Herod s Palace and the last stand of the Zealots, a Jewish revolutionary group at the time of Jesus. Next, float in the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth. Return to after the day s adventure. Day 8 ~ Sunday, December 16, 2018 Following breakfast, walk the Western Wall Tunnels, experiencing more than 2,000 years of history. Continue to the Southern Steps where Jesus would have entered the Temple Mount, and the Davidson Center in the Southern Wall Archaeological Garden. Onto the Jewish Quarter of the Old City that was reconstructed after the city was unified at the conclusion of the Six-Day War in 1967. A special point of interest in the restored Jewish Quarter is the "Cardo", meaning the "heart" of this ancient Byzantine city. Ascend Mount Zion to the Upper Room of the Last Supper that Jesus shared with his disciples. Make Biblical connections to the Jewish Passover Seder meal and the role of the Lamb of God. This afternoon, visit the home of an ultra-orthodox Jewish family, learning how to bake Challah and traditional Jewish dishes. Day 9 ~ Monday, December 17, 2018 / En Route The day begins observing Bar Mitzvah ceremonies at the Western Wall (Kotel). Next, view Israel s Parliament Knesset grounds with its giant Menorah, a gift from the Parliament of the United Kingdom, en route to the Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum, where the Dead Sea Scrolls are housed. View the Model of Ancient, a miniature of the city during the Second Temple period. Next, an unforgettable visit to the Memorial to the Holocaust at Yad Vashem. Onto the Friends of Zion Museum dedicated to the outstanding contributions of Christians to the State of Israel.
